Sandra Bray Johnson

Sandra Bray Johnson, age 44, of Odessa passed away Friday, May 25, 2007 at her residence in Odessa.   She was born, July 19, 1962 in Monahans to the late Leslie and Ozelia (Robertson) Bray.  She was a waitress at Catfish and Company.

Those left to mourn her loss include her son:  Michael Shane Trogden; one daughter:  Amber Nicole Trogden; two sisters:  Lynn Weaver and husband Lester and Pamala Brown and husband Glenn, all of Odessa, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 11 am Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Clay Porter officiating.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Esteban Herrera

Esteban Herrera, age 81, of Odessa passed from this life Friday, May 25, 2007 at Hospice House of Odessa.  He was born Thursday, September 10, 1925 in Palo Blanco, Durango, Mexico to Juan and Cruz (Vizcarra) Herrera.  He was a feed lot laborer.

Esteban is survived by one daughter:  Connie Rodriguez and husband, Enrique; two granddaughters:  Lisa Rodriguez and Lory Olivas; and two great-granddaughters:  Aryel Grandado and Dalila Olivas - all of Odessa.

Rosary will be said 7 pm Monday, May 28, 2007 at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 pm Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at Holy Reedemer Catholic Church.  Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery.   Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel of West Odessa.

Leland Babcock

Leland Babcock, age 64, of Odessa died Sunday, May 27, 2007 at Medical Center Hospital.  He was born Monday, March 29, 1943 in Hickman, Kentucky to the late Lewis P. Babcock and Janie Ann (Henderson) Babcock.  He served his country in the US Army in Vietnam.  He married Donna Rust in New Mexico in 1975.  Mr. Babcock was a foreman in the oilfield and a limo driver for Diamond Limousine.

Leland is survived by his loving wife - Donna Babcock of Odessa; four sons - Dennis Brooks, Shaun Babcock and William Dean Chaney all of Odessa and Tim Babcock of Granbury, TX;  three daughters - Latonnia Gripon of Houston, Terri Rene Tucker of Odessa, and Tammy Babcock of Flint, MI; three brothers - Charles Babcock, Robert Babcock, and Richard Babcock, all of Odessa; one sister - Bonnie Smith of Snyder; twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 pm Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at Acres West Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mike Bartlett officiating.  Pallbearers will include:  Charles Babcock, Ricky Babcock, Richard Babcock, Glenn Rust, Robert Babcock, and Larry Porter.  Interment with military honors will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Francisco Calderon

Francisco Calderon, age 64, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at his residence in Odessa. He was born Tuesday, April 13, 1943 in Ojinaga, Mexico to Manuel and Viviana (Valenzuela) Calderon.

Francisco enjoyed sports, especially baseball. He loved throwing BBQs for his family and loved farming. He worked as a swamper for E. L. Farmer Trucking Company.

He is survived by his wife, Amelia of Odessa; three sons, Pilar and Jorge Calderon both of Odessa and Rigoberto Calderon of Midland; two brothers, Alfredo Calderon of Odessa and Victor Calderon of Tularosa, NM; two sisters, Maria Ramos of Kermit and Adelida Alvarado of Artesia, NM; he is also survived by seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Pilar and Manuel and four sisters, Azusena Brito, Eva Bonilla, Lola Gomez and Juana Perez.

Rosary is scheduled for 7:00 pm, Sunday, June 3, 2007 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Mass is scheduled for 10:00 am, Monday, June 4, 2007 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Father Joey Faylona as celebrant. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Billy George Love

Billy George Love was born in Tulia, Texas, on November 15, 1928. His weak heart gave away at 5 a.m. on June 2, 2007. He is now with God and those that have gone before him (his son, David and parents, George and Thelma Love).

Bill was raised on a farm in Tulia where he established a good work ethic. He bought a Model T with money raised from selling vegetables when he was 14 years old. After graduating from Tulia High School, he attended Abilene Christian College from 1946 to 1951 majoring in Christian Education. Bill married Anita Anderson on September 10, 1949. Throughout the 58 years of marriage they made a loving, Christian home and raised four children: David, Jerry, Kathy, and Debra.

Whatever Bill did, he did with all his might. Among other things, he sold Bibles, preached, managed Levine’s Department Store, owned Bill Love’s Frame-A-Rama, and delivered phone books for Area Wide Publishing.

Bill and Anita settled in West Odessa in 1956 at a time when very few houses were in sight. As the area began to populate, he saw the need to start a church. West University Church of Christ began in his home in 1960 before moving to its current location. As a friend, preacher, and elder, he ministered to the church family there.

In service to the community, Bill served on the board of Ector County Water District, was an active member of the A.M. Lions Club, and participated in Neighborhood Watch.

Those left behind to cherish his love and memories are his wife, Anita, of Odessa, one son, Jerry Love and wife Roz of Abilene, two daughters, Kathy Jones and husband Roy of Odessa, Debra Goodheer and husband Jesse of Abilene, daughter-in-law, Jana Jones and husband Rector of Odessa, three brothers, Doyle Love and wife Jean of Lubbock, Deryl Love and wife Katie of Portales, NM and Chuck Love and wife Pam of Grand Prairie, TX. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, Joshua Love, Rachel Spicer and Ben Jones all of Denver, Colorado, Amber Love of Dallas, Darin Love of Fort Worth, Dustin Love of Temple,  Eric Goodheer and Kio Likitamas both of Abilene, Doug Jones of Las Cruces, NM and D. Wayne Love, Timothy Jones and David Jones all of Odessa.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at West University Church of Christ, officiated by Brother Roy Jones and assisted by Brother Lynn Money. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Dustin Love, Darin Love, D. Wayne Love, Daniel Jones, Eric Goodheer and Ben Jones.

The family requests memorials be made to the Odessa Christian School, 2000 Doran Dr, Odessa, TX 79761.

The family wishes to express gratitude to everyone that helped when he had his heart attack in La Bodega Mexican Restaurant on April 29, as well as the medical personnel in ICU at Medical Center and Regency Hospitals.  The family was comforted by the thousands of people that prayed for him.

Seferino Tercero

Seferino Tercero, age 79 of Odessa died Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at Regency Hospital.

He was born August 26, 1927 in Ojinaga, Mexico and was a retired oil field contruction worker.

He was survived by two sons, Bernancio Tercero and Israel Tercero of Odessa, daughters, Olivia Carrasco and Laly Arradondo both of Dallas, Hortencia Granteria of Ojinaga, Mexico and Olga Carrasco, Ovelia Bustamante, Alma Luna, Sophie Tercero all of Odessa, brothers, Francisco Tercero of Odessa, Diego Tercero of Ojinaga, Mexico and Trinidad Tercero of Dallas, sisters Celia Carrasco and Anna Maria Tercero both of Ojinaga, Mexico Emma Carrasco of Dallas and Maria de La Luz of Lovington, NM, forty grandchildren and forty-five great-grandchildren.

Mass is scheduled for 10:00 am, Friday, June 8, 2007 at St Joseph Catholic Church with Father Joe Uecker as celebrant. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Margarita Renteria

Margarita Renteria, age 48, of Odessa died Monday, June 4, 2007 in Iliff, CO.

A homemaker, she was born Sunday, July 6, 1958 in Cuautemoc, Chihuahua, Mexico.

Those left to cherish her love and memories include two sons,  Felipe Rios and Rogelio Rios both of Odessa, daughters, Maria Rodriguez of Midland, Luz Maria Villalobos of Odessa and Angela Meraz and Concepcion Quezada both of Sterling, Colorado, brothers, Isaias Chonel and Marcos Felix Renteria both of Cuautemoc, Mexico, sisters, Susana Renteria, Josefina Renteria and Monica Renteria all of Cuautemoc, Mexico and eighteen grandchildren.

Mass is scheduled for 10:00 am, Thursday, June 7, 2007 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Father Joey Faylona as celebrant. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

William Ernst Wesch Jr.

William Ernst Wesch Jr. age 77 of Odessa, died on June 2, 2007 At his residence.

Mr. Wesch was a mechanical engineer. He was born December 25, 1929 in Dallas, Tx.

He is survived by: Sons, John Wesch and William E. Wesch III both of Dallas, TX and Brother Don Wesch of Plano, TX.

 Memorial Services will be privately held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

David Alton Simmons Jr.

David Alton Simmons Jr. age 53 of Odessa died June 6, 2007 at Medical Center Hospital.

He was born Jan. 2, 1954 in Detroit, Michigan.  He was self employed in lawn service.

Those left to mourn his loss are his wife, Dawn Simmons of Odessa, one son, Matthew Simmons of Tulsa, OK, Daughters, Maria Simmons and Tammy Simmons, both of Cabero, NM., Ynacque Simmons of Woodward, OK., Brothers Alan Simmons of Trempeleau, Wi. and Billy Simmons and Timmy Simmons both of Detroit, MI, Sisters, Patti Cantrell of Tunnel Hill, GA, and Dorothy Simmons, Winone, MN. and  two grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date in Wisconsin. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Leeroy “Jr” Vasquez 

Leeroy “Jr” Vasquez, age 26, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2007 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.  He was born Tuesday, June 17, 1980 in Odessa, to Leeroy and Maria (Jimenez) Vasquez.

A lifetime residence of Odessa, Jr. had a big heart full of love for his children and family. He enjoyed racing horses as a hobby and could be seen frequently at Joker Stables with his cousin Raulito and buddies.  In the eyes of his sister Gabby he was the life of the party. A go-getter, Jr. was a hard worker and nothing ever got him down. Alexia Ibarra, who was his only niece, will remember him playing with her and always calling her “chiple”.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his loving sons Caden and Preston Vasquez, children of Crystal Putty; his parents, Maria and Leeroy; maternal grandparents Felipe and Dominga Jimenez; and one sister, Gabriella Vasquez all of Odessa.

Rosary is scheduled for 7:00 pm, Sunday June 10, 2007 at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 10:00 am, Monday, June 11, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Joe Uecker as celebrant. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Raul Jimenez, Jr., Juan Cesar Salcido, Jr., Edgar Cervera, Jr., Philip Cervera, Jose Antonio Ibarra, Eddie Almance, Juan Lara, and Eli Rocha.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel of West Odessa.

Johnny Lee Cavender

Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Monday, June 11, 2007 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pastor Jay Lindsey officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Johnny Lee Cavender passed away June 8, 2007 at his residence in Odessa. He was born in Odessa on Sept. 10, 1951. He was a Christian and attended The Cowboy Church. Being a truck driver for many years, he got to see a lot of beautiful country. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends and watching western movies.

He leaves behind his wife, Mitzi Cavender and two sons, Luke and John Paul Cavender of Odessa. His mother, Mattie Sue Cavender, one sister, Susan Benefield and husband, Dale of Odessa and one brother, Steve Cavender and wife Myrna of Austin. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and two dear friends, Gary and Trish Leonard of Odessa. We will miss Johnny very much. Our thanks to Hospice and God bless.

Johnny was preceded in death by his father, R. C. Cavender.

Marion Claude Wynne
Marion Claude Wynne, age 83, of Odessa passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at Crane Memorial Hospital in Crane, TX.  He was born Monday, October 15, 1923 in Columbus, New Mexico.  He retired from work as a heavy equipment operator in the oilfield. 
 
He is survived by two sons:  Curtis C. Wynne of Hobbs, NM and Cecil N. Wynne of Carlsbad, NM; one daughter: Cathy Wright of Huffman, TX; one brother - Gene Wynne of Tularosa, NM; one sister - Charlotte Garlick of La Plata, NM and numerous Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren
 
Funeral services are set for 10:00 am Saturday, June 16, 2007 at Acres West Funeral Chapel of West Odessa with Brother Roy Jones officiating.  Interment will follow at Mount Evergreen Cemetery in Pecos, TX.
