Linda Lorraine Chesser
Linda Lorraine Chesser, lifetime resident of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at her residence. She was born Thursday, October 26, 1961 to Lornce Monroe and Ozella (Proctor) Green.
 
Linda enjoyed hanging out at Joe's Bar and being with her buddies. She made a friend of everyone who came through the door. Her son, Travis was the love of her life and her pride and joy.
 
Those left to cherish her love and memories are one son, Travis Green of Odessa; her mother, Ozella Green of Odessa; four brothers, Wayne Green, Lonnie Green and Lyle Green, all of Odessa, and Dale Green of Gail, Texas; one sister Lou Bryant of Odessa, two grandchildren, Blake Green and Cheyene Green also of Odessa, numerous nieces and nephews and her friend and caretaker Grace Davis.
 
Linda was preceded in death by her father.
 
Memorial services are scheduled for 2pm Saturday at Acres West Funeral Chapel with Carri Barrett officiating.

Wayne Pierson

Robert Wayne Pierson, age 54, went home to be with our Lord Wednesday, August 15, 2007 from his residence in Odessa, Texas. He was born March 22, 1953 in Corpus Christi, TX, to Robert Grady Pierson and Joyce Marie (Hendrixson) Henry.

Mr. Pierson retired after twenty years of service as a Captain with the Odessa Fire Department.  He also owned and operated Resco, a local heating and air conditioning business.  He was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend.  He enjoyed working, as well as hunting and fishing, and was a John Wayne enthusiast.  He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish his love and memories include his three daughters: Ona Counts and husband Mike of Divernon, IL, Rhonda Stock and husband Alton of Odessa, and Angela Blair and husband Brad of Snyder, TX; the mother of his children:  Lorinda New of Odessa; two brothers:  Gary Pierson and wife Valerie of Charlotte, NC and David Henry and wife DeLana of San Angelo, TX; two sisters:  Vickey McPherson and husband Jesse of Herrin, IL and Ava McKnight and husband Larry of Inmin, SC; six grandchildren:  Bryan, Taylar, Garrett, Ashlynn, Chandler, and Brayden; his best friend:  Buster; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents:  L.D. and Joyce Henry.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 am, Monday, August 20, 2007 at Acres West Funeral Chapel with Brother Clydell Chapman officiating. Pallbearers will include representatives from the Odessa Fire Department.  Interment will follow at Western Roses Memorial Park.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel of West Odessa. 

Pansy Bender

Pansy Bender departed this life on Thursday, August 16, 2007 from her residence in Odessa. She entered this life, June 10, 1948 in Alton, IL.  She married Jim Bender on December 1, 1990.  She was employed by Nurses Unlimited for 16 years.

Pansy was a true friend, a friend to the friendless.  She loved her grandchildren with all of her heart and soul.

Those left to cherish her love and memories include her loving husband:  James Bender of Odessa; four children:  Arthur Thatcher, Starla Barnett, and Regina Holmes all of Odessa and Lonnie McGiffen of New Orleans, LA and ten grandchildren:  Paul, Donald, Shawn, Eric, Tommy, Jessica, Patrick, Sam, Austin, and Jocelyn.

She was preceded in death by two sons:  Freddie Ray Thatcher and Paul Wayne Wilson.

Memorial services are set for 2:00 pm Sunday, August 19, 2007 at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel of West Odessa.

Jerry Vincent Janca
Jerry Vincent Janca, age 52, died Monday, August 20, 2007 at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born April 27, 1955 in Odessa. He was an auto mechanic.
 
SURVIVORS:  (1) daughter: Rebecca Janca of Odessa; (1) sister: Mary A Wilson of Odessa
 
Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Bobbie Connel

Bobbie Connel, age 58, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at Hospice House. She was born Sunday, September 26, 1948 in Roswell, Chaves County, New Mexico.

A loving companion, mother and grandmother, Bobbie enjoyed being around her family and friends. She relocated to Odessa in 1996, having moved here from Hobbs. While in Hobbs, she was a journalist with the Hobbs Daily News, and maintained the Social pages. For a time, she dabbled in the real estate business in the Ruidoso area.

She is survived by her long-time companion, Freddy Johnson of Odessa, one son; Jason Connel and wife, Renzi, of Hobbs; two daughters: Christi Barnes and husband, Steve and Crystal Connel all of Odessa; three grandchildren: Andrew Connel, MaKayla Fricke and Kiersten McCan; her parents, Bob and Norma Prather and one brother: Stanley Prather and wife, Sheila; her niece, Deadra Dorris and husband, Michael and her nephew, Tony Prather, all of Odessa. Bobbie also leaves behind her extended family Jeatonne Terry and husband, James and their children, Jennifer and Mary, Belinda Stimmons and her children, Cody, Francois and Chelsey, and Kevin Johnson and wife Jeannie and their child Draven. Bobbie is also survived by the father of her children, Jessie Connel.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her mother, Martha in 1972.

Graveside services are set for 2:00 pm Friday, August 24, 2007 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Odessa with Pastor Emmett Barnard officiating.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel of West Odessa.

Maria del Socorro Silva

Maria del Socorro Silva, age 73, passed from this life Thursday, August 23, 2007 at Medical Center Hospital of Odessa.  She was born Saturday, July 28, 1934 in Centro Calles, Chihuahua, Mexico to Vicente and Juliana (Rivera) Valverde.

 

She is survived by her husband, Guadalupe Silva of Presidio; two sons:  Viquen Silva and David Silva, both of Chuahutemoc, Chihuahua, Mexico; six daughters:  Velia Silva and Silvia Silva, both of Chuahutemoc, Chihuahua, Mexico, Sonia Silva of Presidio, TX, Atocha Silva of Amarillo, TX, Juliana Silva of Phoenix, AZ and Sara Silva of Veo, CO; and four grandchildren:  Sara Verdugo, Otoniel Verdugo, Eva Verdugo, and Lizbeth Vazquez, all of Presidio.

 

A prayer service was held 7 pm Friday, August 24, 2007 at Tabernacle de Reunions in Presidio.  Funeral services were 10 am Saturday, August 25, 2007 at Tabernacle de Reunions in Presidio.  Interment followed at Presidio Cemetery.

Debbie Flores Piña

Debbie Flores Piña, beloved sister, aunt, and cousin, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 26, 2007 after a short battle with cancer.  She was preceded in death by her infant son, Justin Ryan, her parents, Domingo & Delia Piña, and her grandparents, Longino & Golla Piña, and Esteban & Maria Flores.

Debbie was raised in Eldorado, TX, but moved to San Angelo upon her high school graduation.  She spent her career in the medical field, acquiring her LVN license from Howard College School of Nursing in 1992.  The last nine years, she spent in Odessa, TX in order to be closer to her nephews.  She worked at Seabury Nursing Home.  Debbie was a calm, quiet, compassionate person with a love of animals.  She also enjoyed having fun and going out with her friends.  She enjoyed cooking/baking for others and we will surely miss her snickerdoodles and pecan tarts.  She also enjoyed crocheting and sewing in her spare time – always making matching costumes for her and her dogs.  Debbie was an avid reader, constantly sharing/exchanging books with her friends.

These last few years, Debbie did what she always wanted to do and that was work/train her female Bouvier dog, Callie, in agility and pet therapy.  Debbie also became involved in the Bouvier Rescue League where she acquired her beloved Cooper.  Her other dog was Bandit, a blue heeler.  Her dog family will surely miss their mama.

Debbie leaves behind her brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Deborah Piña, and her three nephews, Jordan, Jacob, and Joshua Piña from Odessa, TX; her aunts and uncles, Manuel and Elena Piña from Eldorado, TX, Cristella Bautistas, Steve & Lupe Flores, Ezequiel & Odilia Duran, all from Houston, and numerous cousins.

By her request, she will be cremated and a memorial service will take place 2:00 pm Saturday, September 1, 2007 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University in Odessa.

Debbie requested donations be made to National Cancer Society, Home Hospice of Odessa, or the American Bouvier Rescue League.  Special thanks to Hospice for all of their help and support.

Wanda Cook
Wanda  Cook, age 62, of Odessa died Sunday, August 26, 2007 at her residence in Odessa.  She was born February 22, 1945 in Ballinger, TX.  She was a saleslady of oilfield supplies.
 
Survivors:  One son - Greg Gunter of Oklahoma City, OK, one daughter-  Rhonda Bagley of Bakersfield, CA, two brothers - Wayne Reams of Hobbs, NM, and Robert Reams of Denver, CO, one sister- Adelia Calley of Big Lake, TX.
 
Services:  Funeral services are set for 10 am Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at Acres West Funeral Chapel of West Odessa with Clay Porter officiating.  Interment will follow at 4 pm (MST) in Hobbs, NM.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Delia V. “Bonnie” Fuentes

Delia V. “Bonnie” Fuentes, age 62, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 29, 2007. She was born Thursday, May 10, 1945 in El Paso, Texas to the late Samuel and Isabel (Marin) Vasquez.

Known by all as Bonnie, she enjoyed opening her home to hold Bible study classes and fellowship.  When she wasn’t crocheting or cross stitching, she was in the kitchen cooking – and boy, could she cook! Bonnie liked to tell all that she was the “Bodyguard” for the girls (ladies) at church. Her favorite pastime was listening to gospel music, especially that recorded by her daughter and son-in-law.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Abundio Fuentes of Pecos, two sons, Abel Fuentes and wife Olga, of Odessa and Samuel Fuentes and wife, Leah of Pecos; one daughter, Martha Fierro and husband, Jesus of Odessa; one brother, Samuel Vasquez and wife, Alicia of El Paso; five sisters, Adelina Ortega and husband, David; Alvesa Duran and husband, Felipe; Alicia Pedregon and husband, Armando and Emily McDonald all of El Paso and Sister Virginia of New Caney, Texas; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Bonnie will also be remembered by her very special friends, Elidad Perez, Olga Vidales, Yolanda Ocón and Mr. English.

Prayer service is scheduled for 7:00 pm, Friday, August 31, 2007 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 1, 2007 at Templo Buenas Nuevas with Pastor Rosario Hill officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

J. A. Mayberry

J. A. Mayberry was born October 9, 1921 in Benjamin, TX. He spent his early years in Paducah, TX where he met and married Bobbye Smith in November 1949. They moved to Odessa, TX in 1956 with their two children. He worked in the oilfield until retiring to Colorado City, TX. He spent many happy years at the lake before moving back to Odessa.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Clint J Ward and one great-grandson, Lukas Clint Taylor.

He was the only remaining charter member of Greenfield Acres Baptist Church in Odessa, and was one of the first deacons of the church.

He is survived by one son, Creg Mayberry and wife Trayce of Paducah, TX and one daughter, Debi Ward and husband Norman of Odessa, TX, 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Maggie Harper and husband Dick of Seymour, TX and Maurice Truelock of Odessa, TX. One brother, Bobby Joe Mayberry of Paducah, TX.

Graveside services will be held in Paducah, TX on Saturday, September 1, 2007. Pallbearers will be Scott Ward, Chad Mayberry, James Truelock, Don Dillard, Joel Ray Jetter and Bill Bland.

To the Staff of Sherwood Place of Odessa we want to give our most heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful care and kindness our Daddy received these last nine months. “Cowboy” loved all his friends at Sherwood Place. A special thank you to Hospice House.

Douglas Ray “Dawg” Adams

Douglas Ray “Dawg” Adams, 48, passed away August 30, 2007 in Odessa, after as long and courageous battle with leukemia. Doug was born to Wanda and Cloyd Adams on May 30, 1959 in Amarillo.

He attended Amarillo public schools and finished his education at Caprock High School. Doug lived life to the fullest and was a very talented singer. He was head of maintenance at Ector County School District for 6 years and was DJ and singer at Neon Moon in Odessa at the time of his death.

Doug was preceded in death by an infant son, Kerry Don Adams in 1990 and his mother Wanda Jones in 2006.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry, of Kermit, two sons:  Matthew Adams and wife Lisa of Denton, TX and DJ Adams of Odessa, three daughters:  Tenika and husband Philip Davidson and Hailey Adams all of Odessa and Tia and husband Ricky Lawrence of Amarillo, two stepsons:  Chad Jones of Pearland, TX and Casey Williams of Kermit, one stepdaughter:   Chelsea Putnam of Kermit. He is also survived by his father:  Cloyd Adams of Tucson, AZ, two brothers:  Gary Adams and wife, Sandy of Amarillo and Clay Adams of Amarillo, a life-long very special friend Tammy Adams, nine grandchildren, and five step-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, Sept. 2 at Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa at 2:00 pm.

He will be deeply missed by his many friends and family.

Billie Jim Richmond

Billie Jim Richmond, long time resident of Odessa passed away at her home, Monday, September 3, 2007, after a lengthy illness. She was born Friday, January 1, 1937 in Llano to the late James and Etta (Ratliff) Napier.

At age 9, Billie and her family settled in Odessa where she graduated from OHS.  In February 1954, Billie married the love of her life, William C. Richmond in Lovington, N.M. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, she will be remembered by those who shopped Jim’s Big and Tall Shop where she had worked for twenty-one years.

Those left to cherish her love and memories are her husband of 54 years, William C. Richmond of Odessa; six sons, William H. Richmond of Perth, Australia, Randy Clinton Richmond of Sweetwater, Joshua Wayne Richmond of Seoul, Korea, David Wayne Richmond, Jacob Ross Richmond and Jerome Richmond all of Odessa; two daughters, Sarah Diane Richmond and Jessica Lane Richmond both of Odessa; three grandchildren, Tamara Nichols, John David Richmond and Rebecca Dawn Richmond and eight great-grandchildren, Austin Tanner Shepardson, Alex Reed Shepardson, Brandon Scott Shepardson, Joey Richmond, Johnathan Richmond, Matthew Richmond, William Clayton Richmond, Evelyn Danielle Nichols and Keira Issabella Nichols.

Memorial services are scheduled for 2 pm, Thursday, September 6, 2007 at Acres West Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Emmett Barnard officiating.
