Melva Lavon Fry Wall

Melva Lavon Fry Wall, age 82, went to be with the Lord on Good Friday, March 21, 2008.

She was born June 6, 1925 in Childers, Oklahoma, to Joseph Isaac Fry and Alma Elizabeth (Coker) Fry.  She grew up on the banks of the Verdigris River and took pride in her Cherokee heritage.  She graduated as Valedictorian in 1943 from Childers High School where she loved to play basketball.  She married William Dolphus Wall in Nowata, Oklahoma April 13, 1946.  While working for Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville, they felt the call to the oilfields of West Texas and moved to Kermit, TX in 1946.  In Kermit, she was a bookkeeper for CR Anthony Stores, served as church pianist and Sunday school teacher at Trinity Christian Church, piano instructor, and Girl Scout Leader.  She made many friends through the years, having lived throughout the Permian Basin, but Kermit was home until moving to Odessa in 1977.  She was an active member of the Genesis Class at First Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister: Nola Marie Fry, and great-grandson:  Brayden Ramsey King.

She is survived by her husband of the home and four daughters:  Linda McCormick of Odessa, Janice and husband Larry Palmer of Odessa, Krysta Brooks and fiancé Wylie Norton of San Angelo, and Cheryl and husband Tim Richardson of Lubbock.  She is also survived by grandchildren:  James McCormick and wife Jennifer of Palestine, TX, J.J. McCormick of Richardson, TX, Christopher King and wife Vanessa of Midland, TX, Justin King and wife Kindra of Midland, TX, Tara Palmer Anderson and husband Chad of Midland, TX, Tina Palmer Bolby and husband James of Odessa, Greg Palmer and wife Tammy of Arlington, TX, Michelle Palmer Bailey and husband Paul of Odessa, and Ryan and Logan Richardson of Lubbock, TX.  Adding to her delight were great-grandchildren:  Caitlyn and Kortney McCormick, Kayla Matthews, Camryn McCormick, Hannah Anderson, Joslyn and brother, Brandon Bolby, Ryker, Rylee, Aydin, and Kyra King, Stetson and sister, Destiny King, Treasure, Norton, Zachary and sister, Kyleigh Bailey, and great-great grandchildren:  Vaughn and Tyler Bailey.  Siblings surviving her are:  Joseph Isaac Fry, Jr. of Greensboro, NC, Gerald Fry of Millersville, MD, Wayne Fry of Nowata, OK, Deloris Nilson of Burleson, TX, and Larry Fry of Granbury, TX, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A family visitation will be from 6 pm to 8 pm Monday evening, March 24th at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Funeral services will be 11 am Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at First Church of God with Rev. Jerry Patterson officiating.  Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery at 2 pm.  Pallbearers will include grandsons:  James McCormick, J.J. McCormick, Christopher King, Justin King, Chad Anderson, and Paul Bailey.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

In lieu of flowers memorials to the First Church of God, 2212 E. 11th, Odessa, TX 79761 or Hospice House, 903 Sam Houston, Odessa, TX 79761 would be appreciated.  Psalm 116.

Librado F. Saenz

Librado F. Saenz, age 71, of Odessa passed away Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Medical Center Hospital.  He was born September 15, 1936 in Pilares, Mexico to David and Esperanza (Franco) Saenz.  He was a crane operator.

He is survived by his wife:  Romana Saenz of Odessa; two sons:  Noé Saenz of Midland and David Saenz of Odessa; two daughters:  Leticia Mireles and Estella Fierro, both of Odessa; six sisters:  Celi Meraz and Ramona Barrera, both of Pecos, Jacinta Velez of Van Horn, Socorro Taylor of Odessa, Juanita Carrasco of Andrews, and Ludie Valeriano of Hobbs, NM; and eleven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother:  Domingo Saenz.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Van Horn, TX with interment to follow at Van Horn Cemetery.

Edgar Lee Davis

Edgar Lee Davis, age 79, died in the evening of March 23 in Odessa Hospice House.  He was born September 6, 1928 in Nueces County, Texas to Henry G. Davis and Annie B. Davis.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Fox Davis, daughter Cheryl Lee Davis-Crider, grandson William Robert Crider, II and wife Melody, two great-grandchildren, Seth and Abigail, and two sisters, Betty M. Davis and Retta Davis-Tusia.

He was a graduate of Henrietta M. King High School in Kingsville, Texas, Concordia Lutheran College in Seguin, Texas, and the University of Texas in Austin, Texas.

After serving four years in the U.S. Air Force as an electronic technician during the Korean War, he returned, married and moved to Houston, Texas to work many years for the Petty-Ray Geophysical Company.  He met his wife Shirley while attending the University.  They moved to Midland with their daughter Cheryl in the 1970's where he was employed by Petty-Ray and  Dawson Geophysical Companies until his retirement.   

Traveling, camping and fishing were a few among many things he loved to do, a favorite being collecting and repairing "bargains" that he found in second hand stores and junk yards.

A wry sense of humor was one of his qualities that also helped him over bad times and kept him hopeful and optimistic. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

The Davis family wishes to extend their gratitude to the kind, caring, efficient staff of Home Hospice of Midland and the Hospice House of Odessa.  The family also expresses thanks to the members of Midland 2nd Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, whose kindness, thoughtfulness and continuous support over these few months was so comforting during this stressful period.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 30,  at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4805 Gateway Street, with Bishop Jerry D. Zant conducting.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Frances Marie Monte

Frances Marie Monte, age 62, of Odessa was called away by the angels Sunday, March 23, 2008 at Medical Center Hospital.  She was born Sunday, December 9, 1945 in Evansville, Indiana to George Frances and Lois Jean (Gibbs) Cutsinger.  She was a homemaker.  She was involved with the Salvation Army and Zion Ministries.

Frances leaves behind her husband:  James Bishop; three sons:  Darryl Masterson, Chad Marion Hall, and Josh Flores; and two daughters:  Sandra Masterson and Melinda Dollason; all of Odessa.  Also mourning her loss are one sister:  Mary Francis, nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial services to honor her memory will be held 2 pm Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Bro. Dewey Blevins.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Lee Cole

Laura Maggie Lee Cole passed from this life Sunday, March 23, 2008 at Hospice House of Odessa.  She was born July 1, 1935 in Genoa, Miller County, Arkansas to William and Nannie Mae (Purifoy) Fondren.  She was a member of the Baptist Church.

Lee worked as a waitress (at the Stardust during the ‘70’s) and raised five children on a waitress’s salary.  She loved to bake and if she met you – and liked you- you were likely to be rewarded with a cake or pie the next day.  She enjoyed going to garage sales and relaxing in front of the TV watching some of her favorites:  Joel Osteen, Tiger Woods, or Jeopardy. 

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her mother:  Nannie Mae Fondren of Odessa; one son:  Tony Hitson of Odessa; four daughters: Troylan Garrett, Peggy Dickman, and Tommie Gail Moya, all of Odessa, and Susan Tackitt of Bedford, TX; two sisters:  Dorothy Wedin of Palm Springs, CA and Mae Wilson of Ft. Worth, TX; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. 

Memorial services will be held at a later date.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Stephen R. Ferguson

Stephen R. Ferguson, 55, died March 23, 2008 at Hospice House in Odessa.

Steve was born September 2, 1952 in Odessa, TX, the son of Lloyd and Jo Marie Ferguson.  Steve’s father died when he was a child and he and his brother were raised by their mother.  Steve graduated high school in Dallas, served in the US Army and received an honorable discharge in 1974.  Steve married and had one son, Jeffrey Michael Ferguson.  After his military service, Steve attended Richland College.  Steve worked as a carpet layer.  At the time of his death, Steve was living in Odessa and attended First Assembly of God Church.

A memorial service to celebrate Steve’s life will be held at a later date at the First Assembly of God Church.

Rosa De la Cruz
Rosa De la Cruz, age 81, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at Medical Center Hospital.  She was born September 15, 1926 in Tapa Chula, Chiapas, Mexico.  She was a homemaker.
 
She is survived by five sons:  Jose R. Diaz, Gregorio Diaz, and Felipe Diaz, all of Juarez, Mexico, Pablo Diaz of Odessa, and Francisco Diaz of El Paso; one daughter:  Ana Maria Diaz of Juarez, Mexico; forty-seven grandchildren and ninety-three great-grandchildren.
 
Services will be held later this week in Juarez, Mexico with interment to follow at the Tepeyac Cemetery in Tepeyac, Chihuahua, Mexico.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Jack J. Watts

Jack Watts went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 25, 2008 at Medical Center Hospital.  He was born November 23, 1929 to George & Velva Watts in Indianapolis, Indiana. 

He was preceded in death by his wife:  Lottie Watts; parents:  George and Velva Watts; three sisters:  Sally Watts, Bernice Watts, and Judy Wicker; and four brothers:  Danny, Tommy, Bill, and Bernie Watts.

He is survived by one daughter:  Helga Page of Oklahoma City, OK; two sisters:  Betty Farmer and Ann Brown, both of Odessa; three brothers:  Ronny and Frank Watts, both of Indiana and Rick Watts of Florence, SC; a special great-niece:  Jo Lynn Cornwell; three special great-great nieces:  Madison, Morgan, and MaKinzi; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was loved by all and will be deeply missed.

Jack was a retired military veteran of 20 years.  He survived two wars, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War, serving in the US Army.  He loved life and his Lord.  He enjoyed golf, fishing, baseball, and dancing, but most of all – he loved Karaoke.  He was a guy who loved all.

A memorial tribute to Jack with military honors will be 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm Monday, April 7, 2008 at Slater Park, 38th and Pleasant Streets in Odessa.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Teresa Diane Demetri

Teresa Diane Demetri passed from this life Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at her residence in Odessa at the age of 50.  She was born August 1, 1957 in Lockney, TX.  She married Alan Demetri June 13, 1978 in Amarillo, TX.  She was a registered nurse at Medical Center Hospital for seven years, as well as working part time at Hospice House.  She loved to help people and planned to go back to Hospice House full time when her health improved.  She was a member of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church of Odessa.

She is survived by her husband:  Alan Dean Demetri of Odessa; her mother:  Jean Merchant and husband Cleo of Comfort, TX; father:  Bill Strickland and wife Maxine of Lockney, TX; her grandmother:  Mae Willis of Wichita Falls, TX; one brother:  John Lawayne Strickland and wife Sherri of Victoria, TX; two nieces:  Britni Strickland of Victoria, TX and Bridgit Strickland of Portland, TX; best friends:  Sweetie and Roy Thompson of Tulsa, OK; and god children:  Lee Walice of Odessa and Emily Loveday of Tulsa, OK.

Visitation will be 6 pm to 8 pm Friday, March 28, 2008 at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Funeral services will be 2 pm Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Parker Heights Christian Church, officiated by Rev. Jon Harrington.  Graveside services will be 2 pm Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Lockney Cemetery in Lockney, TX.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Marisela Anchondo Jimenez
Marisela Anchondo Jimenez, age 37, died Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Medical Center Hospital.  She was born Tuesday, January 12, 1971 in Anahuac, Chihuahua Mexico to Jose Hernandez and Hilda Anchondo Granados Hernandez.  She was a homemaker and a Jehovah's Witness.
 
She is survived by her husband:  Jose A. Jimenez of Odessa; parents:  Jose and Hilda Hernandez of Silver City, NM; grandmother:  Maria Jesus Anchondo of Odessa; one son:  Giovanni Jimenez of Odessa; three daughters:  Melissa Dominguez, Marissa Dominguez, and Maria Marisela Jimenez, all of Odessa; four brothers:  Juan Arturo Anchondo, Omar Hernandez, Antonio Hernandez, and Roberto Hernandez, all of Silver City, NM; and five sisters:  Luly Rendon, Maria Jesus Garcia, and Chikis Hernandez, all of Odessa, and Marisol Hernandez and Ivonne Hernandez, both of Silver City, NM.
 
Funeral services will be 10 am Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Acres West Funeral Chapel's 24 Hour Chapel.  Interment will follow at Los Angeles Garden section of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Danny Klein

Sammy Lee "Danny" Klein, age 60, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Deerings Nursing Home in Odessa.  He was born Thursday, October 23, 1947 in Roswell, NM to Lester Lee and Velma Faye (Nowlain) Klein.  He was an oilfield derrick hand and a US Army Veteran.

Danny is survived by his wife:  Precious Klein of Odessa; four daughters:  Margie Casias, Talana Shackelford and Toni Porterfield, all of Austin, TX and Tanya Fields of Odessa; one sister:  Patty Holdeman of Odessa and eleven grandchildren.

No services are set at this time.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.
