Bobby Ray Tomlinson
Bobby Ray Tomlinson, age 49, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2008, in a traffic accident in Ector County. He was born  Friday, May 8, 1959 in Odessa and was employed by Big Dog Drilling as a driller.
 
He is survived by: his parents: Walter (Dusty) and Sue Tomlinson of Odessa; two sisters:  Linda Odom of Bastrop, TX and Gayla Pradon of Odessa, TX; his son:  Shelby Tomlinson of Bastrop, TX and his daughter:  Jennifer Tomlinson of Bastrop, TX.
 
Memorial Services are scheduled for 7:00 P.M. Thursday, August 28, 2008 at Acres West Funeral Chapel with Brother Roy Jones officiating.
 
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be sent to Hospice House 903 N. Sam Houston, Odessa, TX 79761.

Carol Ann Lance

Carol Ann Lance, age 59, passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2008 in a fatal car accident.  She was born February 12, 1949 in Hobbs, NM to Harold L. Clough and Deeon (Hill) Clough.  She spent the last 20 years as an Odessa resident after eight years in Midland.  She was a regulatory analyst for COG Operating, LLC.  She was a loving daughter, sister, and mother and a good friend and neighbor. She was a volunteer for the Cancer Society who took wonderful care of others.   

Carol leaves behind her father Harold Clough of Odessa, one son:  Curtis Purser of Abilene, TX; one brother:  Eric Clough of Tool, TX; and one sister:  Regina Chance of Odessa. 

She was preceded in death by her mother:  Deeon Clough. 

Funeral services will be 10:00 am Saturday, August 30, 2008 at First Baptist Church, officiated by Paul Hamby.  Interment will follow at Western Roses Memorial Park Cemetery (4100 N. FM 1788).  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

 Adrian Tucker Tiner

 Adrian Tucker Tiner died in his home on August 29, 2008 surrounded by his loved ones. 

Adrian was born on February 17, 1932 in Monticello, Arkansas, the son of Dessem & Mattie Tiner.  He married the love of his life, Mary G. Rauls “Jerrie”, on March 7, 1949 and they moved to Odessa, Texas shortly after that in 1951. 

Adrian worked for Cities Services/Occidental Permian in Odessa for 38 years and retired as an Operations Manager in 1989.  

Adrian is survived by his wife “Jerrie” Tiner of Odessa and his three children; Sherrie Tiner of Odessa, Shilda Wade and husband Craig of Llano, TX and Tommy Tiner and wife Meryl of Gardendale. He is also survived by 7 Grandchildren; Becky Tiner of Dallas, Tony Wade of Odessa, John Tiner of Winder, GA, Wendy Blackmon of Odessa, Jeff Wade of Odessa, Lance Tiner of Odessa, Sandy Robinson of Odessa, and Jonathan Foster of Wasilla, AK.  He is also survived by 10 Great Grandchildren; Bevanie, Kelly, Makayla, Ashlynn, Blake, Tyler, Samantha, Christopher, Colton and Brittney. 

Adrian was a beloved Husband, Daddy and Papaw to his family and a wonderful friend to all who knew him.  He was a devout Christian and attended Calvary Chapel West Texas. 

Memorial services will be held at Calvary Chapel West Texas at the intersection of FM 1788 and Hwy 191 on Sunday, August 31, 2008 at 3:00 PM.  Arrangements in Odessa are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be handled by Stephenson's Funeral Home of Monticello, AR at Prosperity Cemetery in Risen Co., Arkansas.

Ernesto Garcia, Sr.

Ernesto Garcia, Sr. age 81, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2008 at his Odessa residence.  He was born Tuesday, September 7, 1926 in Wichita Falls, TX to Nolberto and Manuela (Dominguez) Garcia.  He was a retired self-employed roofer for Garcia Roofing Company.  He was a Christian. 

Ernest loved the outdoors.  He loved gardening, music, and dancing.  He was always smiling – no matter what. Ernest was a well respected and loved individual.

 He leaves behind his beloved wife: Jessie Ramos Garcia of Odessa; two sons:  Ernesto Garcia, Jr. of Odessa and Humberto Garcia of Lubbock, TX; four daughters:  Ester Minjarez and JoAnn Gonzales, both of Odessa and Corina Garcia and Mary Ann Mares, both of Andrews, TX; one brother:  Raymundo Garcia of Dallas, TX; three sisters:  Florencia Vasquez of Blythe, CA, Ofelia Alvarez of Ysleta, TX, and Elena Holguin of San Elizario, TX; 28 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son:  Richard Garcia, Sr. of Van Horn, TX. 

Funeral Services will be 10 am Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Parker Heights Christian Church officiated by Mark Bristow.  Interment will follow at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery.   Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Philip Austin Robins

Philip Austin Robins, age 61, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2008 at Hospice House of Odessa.  He was born Wednesday, December 4, 1946 in Odessa to Earl and Mildred (Schuster) Robins.  Growing up, he was an Eagle Scout and a member of DeMolay.  He was a US Army and US Navy Vietnam veteran.  He worked as a roughneck.  He was a Christian. 

Philip was a collector.  He had collections of coins, cars, and knives.  He was an adventurous soul who loved the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife:  Rita Robins of Odessa; one son:  Robert Allen Smith of Odessa; one daughter:  Lisa Ann Smith; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. 

Graveside services with full military honors will be 10:00 am Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at Sunset Memorial Gardens, officiated by Johnny Thompson.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Douglas Dewayne Hines

Douglas Dewayne Hines passed away Sunday, August 31, 2008 at Medical Center Hospital.  He was born December 24, 1971 in Abilene, TX to Dewey Wesley Hines and Judy (Smith) Hines.  He was a 1991 graduate of Permian High School.  He married Misti Kinsel in Odessa January 20, 1993.  He was a licensed electrician for Tessco.  Doug just enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest.  He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his free time.   He loved riding horses and riding his motorcycle.   He was member of Faith Community Baptist Church. 

He was a loving husband and father, who leaves behind his beloved wife of over 15 years:  Misti Hines of Odessa; one son:  Brody Hines of Odessa; and his daughter:  KaRissa Hines of Odessa.  He is also survived by his mother:  Judy Hines of Harvey, AR; grandmothers:  Vera Smith of Harvey, AR and Catherine Hogan of Odessa; brother:  Buddy Hines of Harvey, AR; sister:  Teri Brothers and husband Richie of Harvey, AR; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. 

He has gone on to join his father:  Dewey Hines and his grandfather:  Harley Smith in Heaven. 

The family will be at the funeral home (Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University) for visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday evening, September 2, 2008.  Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at Faith Community Baptist Church officiated by Bro. Wayne Shelton.  Interment will follow at Western Roses Memorial Park Cemetery (4100 N. FM 1788).  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Jodie Elaine Floyd Sewell, James Sewell, and Tyler Heath Swindall

Jodie Elaine Floyd Sewell, Tyler Heath Swindall, and James Sewell all left this earth together early Sunday morning, August 31, 2008 as a result of a tragic car accident.  Funeral services for them all will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, September 4, 2008 at Faith Community Baptist Church of West Odessa, officiated by Bro. Wayne Shelton. 

Following funeral services, James will be interred at Rosehill section of Ector County Cemetery.  Jodie and Tyler will be interred 2:00 pm Friday, September 5, 2008 at Rocky Creek Cemetery in Brownwood, TX. 

Jodie was born September 20, 1977 in Temple, TX and her brother, Tyler, was born eight years later, July 15, 1986 in Odessa, TX.  Jodie was a homemaker and Tyler was a roughneck.  They leave behind their parents:  Jackie and Glenda (Hawkins) Swindall of Brownwood; one brother:  Jackie Swindall, Jr. of Brownwood; Jodie’ sisters:  Leslie Floyd and Marie Harrell of Brownwood; and Tyler’s sisters:  TraDonna Swindall of Menard, TX and Tracy Grimes of Stephenville, TX.  Jodie was the mother of five sons:  Nicholas Sewell, Brandon Sewell, Dylan Sewell, Walker Sewell, and Chance Swindall, all of Brownwood.  Tyler and his wife, Kimberly (Hopkins) Swindall, were the proud parents of two sons:  Braxton and Brason Swindall.  

James was born June 21, 1978 in Delhi, LA to Lonnie “Bob” Sewell and Linda (Devrey) Sewell.  He was a tool pusher for Cap Star Drilling.  Those left to mourn his loss include his mother:  Linda Sewell; five brothers:  Jerry Sewell of Louisiana, Gilligan Sewell of Midland, Billy Joe Sewell of Aztec, NM, Dusty Kenneth Sewell of Odessa, and James Sewell of Mississippi; and three sisters:  Peggie Sewell of Salt Lake, TX, and  Roberta Sewell and Michelle Sewell, both of Odessa.  His father preceded him in death.  He is also preceded in death by four brothers:  two named Bobby Sewell and Lonnie Sewell II and Lonnie Sewell III, and one sister:  Donna Sewell. 

Bob Sims

Bob Sims passed from this life Tuesday, September 02, 2008 at Hospice House of Odessa.  He was born, Robert Louis Sims, September 21, 1937 in Shamrock, TX to the late Myrle Andrew Sims and Oma Lee (Nolan) Sims.  He earned his Bachelor’s degree in English and Speech from West Texas State University in Canyon (now West Texas A&M). He also had hours toward a second BA in Psychology and Sociology.  He served in the US Army in 1959.  Bob married Carol Murphy March 23, 1978 in Andrews.  He was a past member of the Odessa Toastmasters and Odessa Jaycees.  He was past president of the Little Britches Saddle Club.  He worked in banking and financing and mobile home collections. 

Those left to cherish his love and memory include his wife:  Carol Sims of Odessa; two sons:  Ronald Lynn Sims and wife Jackie of Leesburg, FL and Kelly Wisdom and wife Amy of Gardendale, TX; five daughters:  Suzanne Heckart of Bridgeport, TX, and Alecia Myrick, Jamie Holmes and husband Shawn, Kaylee Sims, and Wendy Parrott, all of Odessa; one brother:  Mart Brillhart and wife D'Lana of Slaton, TX; and nine grandchildren:  Nicholas Sims, Xyanthe Williams, Ryan Heckart, Andylynn Heckart, Kasen Myrick, Hallee Holmes, Alyssa Holmes, Peyton Parrott, and Michaela Wisdom.  He also leaves behind numerous other adopted children and grandchildren.  He shared his heart and his home with many. 

Memorial services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, September 6, 2008 at the Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord (1603 N. Grandview) with Pastor Mike Mueller officiating, assisted by James Otterness.   Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kodi, Hospice House, Bob’s nurses at Medical Center and Odessa Regional Hospitals, and all of the many other caring people who have helped throughout the years.

Phoenix Tolbert "PT" Webb
Phoenix Tolbert "PT" Webb, age 48 of Odessa passed away Tuesday, September 02, 2008 at his residence. He was a truck driver. He was born October 23, 1959 in Stanton, TX to Billy Gene Webb and Shirley (Flowers) Webb. In his joy for life, he always wanted to make someone laugh.  He was known affectionately to his family and friends as “P.T.”  Anyone that knew him, knows he enjoyed spinning a yarn.
 
He is survived by one son: Shane Webb and wife Susan of San Antonio, one step-son, Chad Muncy of Mesquite; one daughter, Raina Webb of Mesquite; his mother: Shirley Webb of Odessa; one brother: Charles Webb of Odessa; two sisters: Billie Jean Jones of Odessa and Roxie Hunt of Ponca City, OK; one grandchild:  Mason Skyler Webb of San Antonio, TX; and nieces and nephews:  Megan Webb, Charles Webb Jr. and Hattie Jones, all of Odessa, and many cousins and friends that will miss his humor.

He was preceded in death by his father:  Billy Gene Webb and his wife:  Rita Loraine Russell Webb.

 
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Friday, September 5, 2008 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Midland.

John Walter Bates, Sr.

John Walter Bates, Sr. passed from this life Thursday, September 4, 2008 at Hospice House of Odessa at the age of 70.  He was born November 11, 1937 in Roby, TX to Joe B. Bates Sr. and Fannie Bell (Waddell) Bates.  He served his country in the US Air Force.  He married Beverly Woodward March 19, 1982 in Odessa. 

He was a musician.  Music was his life and he played bass guitar for numerous bands.  His latest band was “The Prowlers”. His greatest joys were his grandkids.  He liked to fish and play the lottery.  He played the scratch-off games and always knew he would “hit the next one.” 

He leaves behind his wife:  Beverly Bates of Odessa;  three sons:  Jack Bates of Boerne, TX, John Bates, Jr. and wife Dana of Odessa, and Ray Hollingsworth and wife Sheri of Odessa; four daughters:  Joni Maness and husband John of San Antonio, Joy Lauderdale of Odessa, and Tammy Hester and husband George of Odessa, and  Shannon Teague and husband John of Odessa; two brothers:  “Toby” Joe Bates Jr. and wife Myrna and “Cricket” James K. Bates and wife Sallie, all of Odessa; nineteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter:  Jana Minor, who passed away in 2006. 

The family will be at the funeral home for visitation Sunday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  Funeral services with full military honors will be 2:00 pm Monday, September 8, 2008 at Acres West Funeral Chapel officiated by Rev. Jimmy Braswell.   Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Joyce Laurell Stockton
Joyce Laurell Stockton, age 68, passed away Friday, September 5, 2008 at Hospice House of Odessa.  She was born in Cushing, OK.  She was a cosmetician then began a career as an LVN. 
 
She is survived by her daughter:  Martie Lynn LeClair of Odessa; one sister:  Rita Jean Lima of Gardendale; nieces:  Jenifer Lynn Moore, Jessica Paige Rains, and Cristie Michelle Lewis; great-nieces:  Kortney Moore, MiKaylin Rains, Asia Lewis, Alana Lewis, and Aurora Lewis; and great-nephew:  Chris Moore.

She was preceded in death by her mother:  Martha Jean Hallum, brother:  Roger Alan Foutch, and her husband:  John Stockton.

 
Graveside memorial services will be noon Saturday, September 5, 2008 at Sunset Memorial Gardens officiated by Jimmy Braswell.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.
