Luz Elena Garcia Porras

Luz Elena Garcia Porras, age 60, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2008 at her residence in Odessa.  She was born in Rosales, Chihuahua, Mexico to Perfecto and Josefa (Soto) Garcia.  She was a manager of a corn tortilla factory.
 
She is survived by her two brothers:  Ambrocio Garcia and Jose Luis Garcia; and seven sisters:  Nacha Garcia, Consuelo Garcia, Elva Garcia, Rose Emma Garcia, Josefina Garcia, Lola Navarro, and Rosa Estrada, all of Chihuahua, Mexico.
 
Rosary will be said 7:00 pm Monday at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Funeral services will be 4:00 pm Tuesday, October 6, 2008 at Acres West Funeral Chapel officiated by Father Joe Uecker.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Rey Valdez
Rey Valdez, age 20, died Thursday, October 9, 2008 at Medical Center Hospital.  He was born December 6, 1987 to Gonzalo Valdez Jr. and Janie (Bosques) Valdez in Midland, TX.  He worked for Eagle Compressions.
 
Those left to cherish his love and memory include his mother:  Janie Valdez of Odessa; step-father:  Arturo Mendez of Odessa; maternal grandfather:  Rosendo Bosques of Midland; paternal grandmother:  Isidra Valdez of Midland; one son:  Nathanaile Reyley Valdez of Odessa; one brother:  Gonzalo Valdez of Odessa; and two sisters:  Erica Valdez and Melissa Lopez  both of Odessa.

He was preceded in death by his father, maternal grandmother, and paternal grandfather.

 
Rosary will be said 7:30 pm Monday, October 13, 2008 at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at St. Mary Catholic Church, officiated by Father Frances Frey.  Interment will follow at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Ronald Dale "R.D." Robertson

R.D. was born February 23, 1951 in Amarillo, TX to Mary Alice and Authur H. Robertson.  He was raised in Amarillo and attended school there.  He moved to Odessa in 1990, where he met and married his wife, Kim, in 1992.  He passed away October 12, 2008 at Hospice House in Odessa. 

He is survived by his wife:  Kim Robertson of Odessa; two sons:  Ron Robertson and wife Dawn and Gregg Robertson, all of Marysville, WA; granddaughter:  Haley Robertson; sisters:  Mary Marcum of Amarillo, TX, Linda Robertson of White Deer, TX, Lois Ricks and husband Rusty and their boys:  Dustin and Kaegan of White Deer, TX; step-mother:  Joyce Robertson and step-sister:  Linda Black, both of Conroe, TX; his step-brothers:  Ed Hastings of Amarillo, TX, and Randy Hastings and Tim Hastings, both of Wichita, KS; and his step-sister:  Melissa Morris and husband Jay of Alvin, TX. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother:  Bobby Robertson. 

Memorial services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at Antioch Christian Church, 4040 Maple in Odessa, officiated by Don Fankhauser.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

John R. Doyen
John R. Doyen, age 81, died Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at Hospice House of Odessa, TX.  He was born in San Augustine County, Texas May 31, 1927.  He was a clerk for the Santa Fe Railroad and a US Navy veteran of WWII.  He was a member of the Church of Christ.
 
He is survived by his sons:  John Doyen of Odessa, TX and Fred Doyen of Aledo, TX; four daughters:  Lucille "Chelah" Cobb of Ardmore, OK, Annette Doyen of Knoxville, TN; Arlene Smith of Lufkin, TX and Darlene Wright of Longview, TX; four brothers:  George Doyen and Jimmy Doyen, both of Silsbee, TX, Hugh Doyen of Austin, TX and Grady "Nubbin" Doyen of Rogersville, TN; one sister:  Lillian Bonner of Louisiana; seventeen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents:  John Randolph and Lucille (Berrman) Doyen; his wife:  Mattie Lee (Brown) Doyen; and one sister, Layla.

 
Graveside services will be 3:00 pm Saturday, October 18, 2008 at San Augustine County Cemetery officiated by Fred Doyen.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Florencia Lujan Galindo
Florencia Lujan Galindo, age 89, passed from this life Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at Hospice House of Odessa.  She was born in La Boquilla de San Isidro, Mexico to Mariano and Benigna Lujan.  She was a homemaker and a resident of Mexico.
 
She is survived by three sons:  Anastacio Galindo of Presidio, TX, Carlos Galindo of Boquilla, Mexico, and Eleacer Galindo  of Guymon, OK; five daughters:  Alicia Adame of Borger, TX, Delfina Hernandez and Sofia Ibarra, both of Odessa, Maria Hernandez of Eldorado, TX and Baciliza Ibarra of Alpine, TX; thirty-seven grandchildren, ninety-seven great-grandchildren, and fifteen great-great grandchildren.
 
Prayer services will be 7:00 pm Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Funeral services will be 11:00 am Thursday, October 16, 2008 at San Miguel Arcangel Episcopal Church, 907 N. Adams in Odessa, officiated by Rev. Bernardo Martinez.  Pallbearers will be Anastacio Galindo, Jr. Jesus Ibarra, Jr. Raudel Galindo, Aaron Hernandez, Rodrigo Adame, and Hugo Hernandez. Interment will follow at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

James Phillip Hickman, Sr.
James Phillip Hickman Sr., age 75, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2008 at Medical Center Hospital of Odessa.  He was born in Reagan, TX December 9, 1932 to Frank and Georgia Mae (Gillon) Hickman.  He was a retired chef.
 
He is survived by two sons:  James Phillip Hickman, Jr of Enfield, NC and Frank Hickman of Greeley, CO; two daughters:  Maria Nelson of Grand Prairie, TX and Elese LaKay Hickman of Waco, TX; one step-son:  Sean Jackson of Duncanville, TX; five step-daughters:  Shirley Houston of Pueblo, CO, Carolyn Houston of Clovis, NM, Kathy Houston of Pueblo, CO, Marylin Scypion of Irving, TX, and Carla Gentry of Grand Prairie, TX; seven brothers:  Frank Hickman, Jr of Dallas, Norris Hickman of Marlin, TX, Wilbert Hickman of Dallas, TX, James Massingill of Dallas, TX, Billy Massingill of Minneapolis, MN, Richard Thurman of Dallas, and George William of Houston, TX; three sisters:  Vera Hickman of Bellflower, CA, and Gloria Trayler and Linda Williams both of Dallas, TX; twenty-seven grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife:  Eloise Hickman; two daughters:  Rhonda Hickman and Mamie E. Hickman; one brother:  Michael Hickman; and two sisters:  Hattie Mae Hickman and Ella Mae Massingill.

 
Funeral services will be 12 noon Saturday, October 18, 2008 at Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa, officiated by Elder Jake Stuart.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Debra Jo Gamez
Debra Jo Gamez, age 50, passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at Hospice House of Odessa.  She was born in McAlester, OK to Billy Joe Coe and Willa Dean (McGregor) Coe on December 23, 1957.  She was self employed in home improvement.  She was Baptist and attended Zion Christian Fellowship.
 
She is survived by four daughters:  Jennifer Grimes, Brandy Weaver, Amanda Welch, and Amber Rose Welch, all of Odessa; one daughter-in-law:  Angelique Gamez of Sweetwater, TX; four sisters:  Stella Marie Kendall of Houston, TX and Charlotte Johnson, Billie Sue Coe, and Tina Limon, all of Odessa; and nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents;  her husband:  Juan Gamez, who passed on August 17, 2007; one son:  William Dean Welch; and one brother:  Gary Dean Coe.

 
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, October 24, 2008 at Acres West Funeral Chapel officiated by Pastor Carrie Barrett.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Roy Alford Threet, Jr.
Roy Alford Threet, Jr. age 75, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at Medical Center Hospital.  He was born in Farwell, TX to Roy Alford Threet, Sr. and Hanna Laura (Hall) Threet.   He was a member of the Eagles BPOE of Odessa.  He was a retired drilling rig coordinator for Parker Drilling.
 
He is survived by his daughter:  Jean Ann Brazeal and husband Willis of Odessa.
 
Graveside services will be 10:00 am Monday, October 27, 2008 at Sunset Memorial Gardens.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Dean William Peavey
Dean William Peavey, age 69, of Odessa passed from this life on Wednesday, October 22, 2008.  He was born in Minneapolis, MN to Norman Daniel Peavey and Odelia Mary (Talbot) Peavey.  He was a retired vacuum repairman.
 
He is survived by two sons:  Don Peavey of Beaverton, OR and Daren Peavey of Odessa; one brother:  Ronald Peavey and wife Shirley of Dana Point, CA; and three granddaughters.

Gyneth Ann Ward
Gyneth Ann Ward, age 66, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2008 at Buena Vida Nursing Home in Odessa.  She was born in Luedars, TX to William Lester Davis and Jessamine Dodgen Davis.  She was a homemaker.
 
She is survived by two sons:  Russell Ward of Odessa and Scott Ward of Salina, KS; one daughter:  Denise Williams of Odessa; two brothers:  William Kenneth Davis of Odessa and Dale Davis of Bartlett, TX; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers:  Lane and Ronald Davis

James Eldredge Slater
James Eldredge "J.L." Slater passed away Friday, October 24, 2008 in Odessa, TX.  Mr. Slater was born in Hubbard, TX February 20, 1932 to James Doyle Slater and Flossie Ann (McCool) Slater. 

J.L. was a native of Hill and Navarro Counties, where he was employed with Hillsboro ISD for several years.

In May of 1962, he married the love of his life, Rose Marie Hagle.  Upon marriage, he also gained one daughter, Diana Jean.  Five years later, in May of 1967, his second daughter, Lee Ann Slater, was born.  While at Hillsboro ISD, J.L. made many friends and touched many lives with his devotion to family and the school.

He was preceded in death by his parents:  James and Flossie Slater; his wife:  Rose Marie Slater; one sister:  Ruby Cole Morgan and her husband, Delmer Morgan.

 
He is survived by his daughters:  Lee Ann Johnston of Odessa, TX and Diana Cain and husband Ronald of Waco, TX; four grandchildren:  Robert "Robby" Cain and wife Suzanna, Lacey Melton and husband Johnny of El Paso, TX, Michael Adler of Dawson, TX, and Shy Ann Harrell Ipsen of Hillsboro, TX; and three great-grandchildren:  Isaiah, Zachariah, and Johnny Jr. all of El Paso, TX.

Carlos P. Nichols

Carlos P. Nichols, age 89, of Mission, TX passed away quietly Monday, October 27, 2008 at his home in Mission, surrounded by his family.  He was born December 7, 1918 in Fabens, TX to Mike and Candelaria (Prieto) Nichols.  He was a US Army WWII veteran. 

He is survived by three sons:  Carlos Nichols of Pecos, TX, Hector Nichols Sr. of Odessa and Salvador Nichols, Sr. of Pecos, TX; nine daughters:  Yolanda Garza of Mission, TX, Gloria Baca of Pecos, TX, Nickolasa Lerma, Eva Martinez, and Ramona Molinar, all of Odessa, TX, Elva Nichols of Pecos, TX, Manuela Nichols of Edinburg, TX, Lupe Nichols of Odessa, TX and Dolores Villescas of Pecos, TX; thirty-six grandchildren, fifty-six great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. 

Visitation will be Wednesday evening and all day Thursday at Pecos Funeral Home.  Rosary will be said 7:00 pm Thursday, October 30, 2008 at Pecos Funeral Home in Pecos, TX.  Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Friday, October 31, 2008 at Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic Church, officiated by Father Rudy Lacerna. Interment with military honors will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Pecos.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa and the Pecos Funeral Home in Pecos.

Billy Joe "B. J." Reynolds, Jr.
Saturday, October 18, 2008, Billy Joe Reynolds, Jr, age 52, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ.  Billy was born in Pecos, TX to the late Billy Joe Reynolds, Sr. and Wilma Lucille (Vessels) Reynolds on December 9, 1955. 

B.J. graduated from Monahans High School.  He worked for BJ's Services out of Odessa, TX.  He enjoyed going camping and fishing with his family.  He also enjoyed the Texas Gulf Coast and the many road trips with his family.  Often you would see Billy on his motorcycle, going to the next campsite to be reunited with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents:  Mr. Jessie Wright and Mrs. Pearl Wright of Ingleside, TX; grandfather:  Mr. Bondie T. " Bud" Vessels; grandmother:  Mrs. Eddie Vessels of Pecos, TX; his father:  Bill Reynolds; and his mother:  Wilma Reynolds, both of Monahans, TX.

 
He is survived by his aunt:  Annette Vessels of Odessa; two brothers:  Michael and Zane Reynolds; and cousin:  Berlin Vessels of Odessa.
 
Graveside services are 10:00 am Friday, October 31, 2008 at Monahans Cemetery in Monahans, TX.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel of Odessa.
