Ola was a Native American Cherokee. She was a homemaker who lived for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved God and her church and served as a nursery worker at Temple Baptist Church, where she was affectionately known to all as “Mimi”. She loved to garden. She grew flowers and tomatoes in pots so she could tend them from her wheelchair.
She is survived by her sons: Gary Steed and wife Patty of Odessa and Jacky Steed and wife Kathy of Paris, TX; nine grandchildren: Shelly D. Griffin, Shauna R. Graham, Mikell Minica, Gina Hensley, DeAnn Minica, Misty Marie Steed, Kimberly Hasty, Dartland Ray Steed, Michael Steed; and thirteen great-grandchildren: Zachary Griffin, Cydnee Griffin, Cameron Griffin, Rachel Craig, Chase Craig, Michelle Hasty, Ashlee Hensley, Cassidy Jones, and Courtney Minica, John D. Steed , Sean M. Steed, Skyler A. Steed, and Sharlotte Steed and one great-great grandson: Jayden Steed.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one son: Charles Buren Steed.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Life Change Baptist Church, 1003 N. Texas, officiated by Bro. Johnny Thomason. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Eric Anthony Perez, age 27, passed from this life on Sunday, May 17, 2009 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas. He was born in Snyder, Texas to Antonio and Debra (Glass) Perez. He was a heavy equipment operator in the oilfield. He was a Catholic and attended St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
Eric loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing and spending time at the lake and golfing with his dad, brother, and cousin. He was a bright, outgoing young man who was quick to make friends.

Butch graduated from Permian High School in 1965. He joined the Marine Corps in 1967, becoming a member of the Third Battalion Platoon 3083.
He began his career in the grocery business at the age of 14. He moved his way up to Store Manager at several locations including Furrs, Gibsons, Albertsons, and Big Lots. He ended his career working at a job he loved at Tractor Supply Company. He opened the store in Odessa and often said this was the job of his dreams.
He is survived by his wife: Vicki Thompson of Odessa; son: Kevin Thompson and wife Angela of Odessa; daughters: Teresa Wright and husband Craig of Austin, TX, Sherice Matthews of Odessa, Laura Hall and husband Rodney of Odessa, and Brandi Alexander and husband Jason of Odessa; brother: Jack Thompson and wife Judy of Odessa; sister: Cheryl Gardenhire and husband Gordy of Blackwell, TX; ten grandchildren: Coy Morris, Tori and Brandon Thompson, Lyndsie, Bailey, and Shelby Matthews, Aubrea and Rodney Hall, and Jaxon and Colton Alexander; four great-grandchildren: Coy Kaleb, Kade, Destiny, and Orin; aunts: Faye Weaver Coleman of Odessa, Betty Snapp and husband Norman of Huntsville, TX, and Boots Thompson of Coolidge, AZ; uncle: Ezra Junior Thompson and wife Judy of Mississippi; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents: Vera and Kenneth Thompson, Sr. and two cousins: Elaine Lundenberg and Joe Eddie Woods.
“Butchie” as he was known to his grandkids, loved life. He enjoyed fishing, sports, and a good western. His motto was “Make the most of every moment you spend with the ones you love.” He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. Many thanks to all of his doctors, Texas Oncology, and the staff of Medical Center Hospital.

Cecil Spray “Clyde” age 64, passed away Friday, May 22, 2009 at Medical Center Hospital. He was born in Aspermont, TX on July 3, 1944. He was a truck driver for BJ’s Services and a member of the Assembly of God Church.
He is survived by his wife: Linda Spray of Odessa; three sons: Dennis Spray of Olney, TX, and Donald Spray and Dustin Spray both of Breckinridge, TX; four daughters: Dianna Simmons of Aspermont, TX, Jeanne Lake, Tracy Griffin, and Janelle Arnold, all of Odessa; one brother: Dennis Spray of Jayton, TX; and fourteen grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Clyde and Opal Spray and one daughter: Devon Spray.

John Robert Brooks, age 59, of Monahans, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2009 at Medical Center Hospital of Odessa, TX. He was born in Tucson, AZ to Charles S. Brooks and Henrietta Locke (Griffes) Brooks on July 23, 1949. He married Donna Jean Emerson on July 14, 1972 in Perkins, OK. She preceded him in death in 2003. He served in the National Guard and worked as a cab driver.
He is survived by two children: Bryan Charles Brooks of Tucson, AZ and Carrie Custer of Monahans, TX; one brother: Dan Brooks of Glendale, AZ; and three grandchildren.

On May 23, 2009, Laurel went to be with her heavenly father. She was born on June 23, 1927 in Austin, Minnesota to Merlin and Alta Alexander. Laurel lived on an Iowa farm while growing up. Because of severe asthma, she moved to Colorado where she graduated from Loveland High School. She then attended and graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado. She taught home economics and science for 30 years in Folsom, CA, Fort Davis, TX, Marfa, TX, Valentine, TX, Van Horn, TX, Imperial, TX and Talpa, TX.
Laurel volunteered for many activities in the Methodist Church and her community and served as a cheerleader sponsor in many of the schools where she taught. After retiring from teaching she had great pleasure in spending time with her grandchildren and writing the cookbook “ Mom’s Groovy Gravy and Other Great Recipes.” She had great pleasure in distributing her cookbook for family, ex-students and friends.
Laurel married her devoted husband, Britain R. Webb, in Sacramento, CA and they have been married for 58 years. Laurel has four children: Diane Miller of Dripping Springs, TX, James Webb of Marfa, TX, Robert Webb (deceased), and Krista Webb of Round Rock, TX. She has one son-in-law: Walter Miller of Dripping Springs, TX. Laurel has five grandchildren, Wesley Citty of Corpus Christi, Ryan Miller of Dripping Springs, Kesha Vasquez, Clarissa Vasquez and Isaiah Hill all of Round Rock. She has one brother Albert Alexander of Burkburnett, TX. Laurel is preceded in death by her parents: Merlin and Alta Alexander, brother: Jessie Alexander and son: Robert Clay Webb.

She is survived by her sons: Isidro Hernandez of Odessa and Pedro Hernandez of Dumas, TX; one daughter: Flora Leyva Hernandez of Odessa; two brothers: Marcelo Galindo of Pecos, TX and Paulo Galindo of Ojinaga, Mexico; three sisters: Juana Galindo of Ft. Stockton, Luisa Galindo of Presidio, and Josefa Galindo of Ojinaga, Mexico; 12 grandchildren: Jesus, Adalberto, Aurelio, Delia, Jose Manuel, Isidro Jr., Maria, Ramon, Miguel, Pedro, Alfredo and Jason, 26 great-grandchildren: Cesar, Brenda, Abilene, Alexis, Adalberto Jr. Theresa, Lilian, Aimee, Cynthia, Maxmillian, Alexandra, Angelica, Nathan, Ray, Adrian, Mia, Melissa, Trinidad, Araly, Miyuki, Isaac, Anthony, Alex, A.J., Chris, and Arielia, and 7great-great grandchildren: Jonothan, Aiden, Yaritza, Rojelio, Elizabeth, Cristian, and Juan.

James B. Jackson, was born to Delmer C. and Barbara (Shelton) Jackson on September 19, 1955 at St. Ann’s Hospital in Abilene, TX. He finished his work on earth and went to be with his heavenly father at Medical Center Hospital surrounded by his loving family and friends on May 28, 2009. He was a member of Bethany Christian Church of Odessa. He loved hunting, fishing and working with young boys as a Scout Master for the Bethany Troop #23. He was currently with Champion Technologies.
He graduated from Hobbs High School in 1973 and from Angelo State University in 1977 with a degree in chemistry. He married Susan Gayle Hawley in August of 1976. To this union were born twin children, James Lucas (Luke) and Melissa Gayle. They were the love of his life. More recently a grandson, Andrew Charles Bergmann, brought added joy to his life.
He is survived by his parents: Delmer Jackson and Barbara (Shelton) Jackson of Eldorado, TX; son, Luke Jackson of San Angelo; daughter, Melissa Bergmann and husband Danny of Monahans; one grandson, Andrew Charles Bergmann; brother, Jerry A. Jackson of San Angelo; aunt, Louise Booth of Baird, TX and one great aunt, Johnye Moore of Clyde.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Vera Mae and Jack Shelton and Elsiberry and Mary Pearl Jackson.

Timothy Scott Young, Sr., age 52, of Odessa, passed from this life on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at his residence. He was born Saturday, October 6, 1956 in Lamesa, Dawson County, Texas. He a retired oil field worker.
He is survived by his son, Timothy Scott Young, Jr. of Odessa, two step-daughters, April Barber and Heather Uhlhorn both of Odessa; two brothers, Tom Young of Odessa and Rick Young of Pearl River, Mississippi and three step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents: R.J. and Betty (Lawler) Young.

Charles Oliver Thomas passed from the life on May 31, 2009 at Odessa Regional Medical Center. He was born September 17, 1956 to Oliver M. “O.M.” Thomas and Betty A. (Ivy) Thomas in Midland, TX. He graduated from Odessa High School. He married Judy Allen October 14, 1983 in Hobbs, NM. They had recently celebrated twenty-five years together. He was a laydown machine operator in the oilfield. He was proud to be “oilfield trash.”
Charles liked to watch Dallas Cowboys football (win or lose), shoot pool and play foosball. He was affectionately known as “Grape Ape.” His favorite quote was, “I was the best there ever was.”
Those left to cherish his love and memory include his devoted wife: Judy Thomas of Odessa; one daughter: Heather Thomas of Odessa; one step-son: Joshua Brindle of Columbia, MD; his brother: James Thomas of Odessa; and many, many oilfield buddies.
