Rodger Keith Brooks

Rodger Keith Brooks passed from this earth on June 1, 2009 at Hospice House of Odessa.  He was born May 26, 1952 in Kermit, TX to DW and Allen Brooks.  He served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany.  He worked for Conoco in Hobbs, NM for 20 years and worked moving rigs in the Odessa area for the past 15 years.  He married Mariana Villa on July 15, 1998.  He had a love for motorcycles and met many good friends doing so.  

He is survived by his wife of 12 years and one daughter:  Suzi and husband Eric Jarrel of Hobbs, NM; step-son:  Jedidiah Villa of Austin, TX; two grandsons:  Brennan Jarrel and Kaden Jarrel of Hobbs, NM; one granddaughter:  Addison Jarrel of Hobbs; two brothers:  Dennis Brooks and wife Juanita of Odessa and Craig Brooks and wife Ellen of Crane; three sisters:  Cheryl and husband Larry Clement, Stacy and husband Doug Yarbor, and Roxanna and husband Ricky Mitchell, all of Odessa; numerous nieces, nephews, friends and his beloved dog Zoe. 

His parents and wife of 20 years:  Barbie Lynch Brooks and one nephew:  Jessie Stringer precede him in death. 

Memorial services will be held 2:00 pm Monday, June 8, 2009 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd., Odessa, officiated by Rev. Jimmy Braswell.  Arrangements are with Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

The family of Rodger Brooks would like to give a Special Thanks to Mariana for staying by his side and taking care of him.  And Thanks to Brian Hughes (Catfish) for always being there for him.  In lieu of flowers please make donations to The Hospice House of Odessa.

Gary Wayne Rhodes

Gary Wayne Rhodes, age 64, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Scenic Mountain Medical Center in Big Springs, Texas. He was born in March 14, 1945  in Odessa, Texas to Hoy Edgar Rhodes and Alma Elizabeth (Glasgow) Rhodes. He worked in oil field construction.  He was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. 

Survivors include his wife Marsha McDowell Rhodes, one stepson: David Rabold, one stepdaughter:  Cassandra Brewer and one sister: Mary Dennis, all of Odessa,  and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother:  Stephen Rhodes.

Graveside services are scheduled for 9:00 am Friday, June 5, 2009 at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery in Odessa. Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Jeff Green

Jeff Green, age 67, longtime Odessa resident, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at his residence.  He was born Wednesday, January 28, 1942 in Athens, TX to Willie Prether Green and Verna Dee (Roper) Green.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Odessa. He was a loving Husband, Father, and PaPa. 

Jeff married Sharron Lee Robinson on May 31, 1975 in Odessa.  Together, they raised four children.  He was an outdoorsman and an all-around hard working man.  He raised goats and enjoyed fishing. 

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of thirty-four years, Sharron Green of Odessa; son:  Sonny W. Hester of Andrews; three daughters:  Misty R. Green, Laura L. Beets, and Leeora J. Smith, all of Odessa; two brothers:  Richard L. Green of Odessa and Randall Green of Quitman, TX; two sisters:  Betty J. Green of Houston, TX and Lois Thornburg of West Odessa; nine grandchildren:  Lorili J. Green, Christina Warnick, Dawn Marie Green, Carol Busche, Abigail M. Smith, Scott Busche, Ebb Smith, Jr., Rilee William Smith, and Michael A. Beets, Jr.; and two great-grandchildren:  Ashley R. Busche and Cody Michael Warnick. 

He was preceded in death by his parents:  Willie and Verna Green; three brothers:  Sylvester, J.W., and Willie D. Green; and three sisters:  Mary Rich, Evelyn Green, and Margie Rhodes. 

Graveside services will be 10:00 am Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery, officiated by Chaplain Jane Morin.  Pallbearers will be Sonny Hester, Glenn Sirmans, Dameion Sirmans, Scott Busche, Mike Beets, and Eric Wood.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Reta Mae Inman Laird

Reta Mae Inman Laird of Midland, TX went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Hospice House in Odessa, TX.  Graveside services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, Pittsburg, TX, Saturday at 2:00 p.m., June 6, 2009 with Brother Cecil McLeod.  The services are under the direction of Currey-Welborn Funeral home, 1123 North Jefferson Ave., Mt Pleasant Texas 75455.   

Reta was born October 14, 1910 in Simpsonville, Texas.  She was the daughter of James Samuel Miller and Nancy Musedora Duncan Miller. 

She was a resident of Mt. Pleasant for over 60 years until failing health required her to move to the Trinity Haven Healthcare Center in Midland, TX the spring of 2001 to be near her son David. 

Reta was a member of the South Jefferson Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant, but for many years taught young preteen girls Sunday School Class at the First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant. 

She was preceded in death by parents, James and Nancy Miller, husband E.C. Laird, sisters, Donnie Campasi of Houston, Wyllene Garrison of Tyler and oldest son, James (Jimmy) Inman. 

She is survived by daughter Nancy Kolb of Lubbock, TX, sons David Inman of Midland, TX, Clifton Laird of Farmers Branch, TX, Charles Laird of Irving, TX, and sister,  Oneta Laird of Odessa, TX,  7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Home Hospice, 901 W. Missouri, Midland, TX 79701 or your favorite charity.

Georganna Mae "Miss Ann" Brown

Georganna "Miss Ann" Brown, age 73, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2009 at her daughter's home in Abilene, TX.  She was born in Indianapolis, IN on November 8, 1935 to George Merideth Watts and Velva Marglea Harris.  She was a homemaker. 

Those left to cherish her love and memory include her children:  Melody Lynn Madry and husband Tommy of Abilene, Donna Jo Stauffer and husband Richard and Marglea Ann Brown and husband Rick, and Johnny Brown and wife Trinity, all of Odessa, and Angela Durbin of Mena, Arkansas; three brothers:  Rick Watts and wife Nancy, Ronnie Watts and wife Tina, and Frank Watts and wife Judy; her sister:  Betty Farmer; thirteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.  

She was preceded in death by her parents:  George and Velva Watts; husband: Ronald Brown; brothers:  Bill, Tommy, Jack, Danny, and Bernie Watts; and sisters:  Bernice and Sally Watts and Judy Whicker. 

Memorial services will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm Thursday, May 11, 2009 at VFW Post #4372, 208 E. VFW Lane, Odessa.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Miss Ann’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Rafael L. Benavides
Rafael L. Benavides, age 47, passed away Monday, June 8, 2009 at Medical Center Hospital after a battle with cancer. He was born July 18, 1961 in Múzquiz, Coahuila Mexico to Miguel and Rosa (Luna) Benavides.  He was a foreman for Flint Energy Services.
 
He is survived by his mother:  Rosa Benavides of Múzquiz, MX; wife:  Rosa (Bosques) Benavides of Odessa; two sons:  Rafael Benavides, Jr. and wife Adriana and Marcos Benavides, all of Odessa; one daughter:  Rebecca I. Benavides of Odessa; four brothers:  Miguel Benavides and Rodolfo Benavides, both of Múzquiz, MX, Gilberto Benavides of Pittsburg, TX and Jose Antonio Benavides of Acuña, MX; five sisters:  Ludy Ramirez and Patricia Benavides, both of Pittsburg, TX, Maricela Godina of San Antonio, TX, Rosaisela Benavides of Acuña, MX, and Aide Benavides of Múzquiz, MX; and one grandson:  Manuel Rafael Benavides of Odessa.
 
Rosary will be said 7 pm Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Acres West 24 Hour Chapel.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Thursday, June 11, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, officiated by Fr. Joe Uecker.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

 

David Stapp McWilliams II

David Stapp McWilliams II, age 23, passed from this life on Monday, June 8, 2009 at his Odessa residence.  He was born in Odessa on September 25, 1985 to David Stapp McWilliams and Sheri Sue Grant.  He was a motor hand in the oilfield and was recently employed as a waiter at Chili’s.  

He married Kathleen Ashley Trevino on July 13, 2008 in Odessa.  He was a loving husband and proud papa.  He was an outgoing person who loved to talk and joke and enjoyed being around people.  He knew a lot about American and world history and was the life of the party.  David was a giving and loyal friend and was always there to help. 

Those left to cherish his love and memory include his wife:  Kathleen McWilliams of Odessa; mother and step-father:  Sheri and Brad Forrester of Odessa; father:  David Stapp McWilliams of Eutaw, Alabama; maternal grandparents:  Randy and Wanda Grant of Odessa; paternal grandmother:  Gwyn McWilliams of Eutaw, Alabama; daughter:  Elyzabeth Nikole McWilliams of Odessa; brothers:  Jonathan Grant McWilliams and wife Holli of Gardendale and Bradley Scott Forrester, Jr. of Odessa; sisters:  Kristen Wallman and husband Michael and Tami Forrester, all of Houston; parents-in-law:  Lisa and Edmundo Trevino, Jr. of Odessa; and uncle:  Brian Grant and wife Kim of Odessa. 

The family will meet with friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8:00 pm Thursday evening. Funeral services are set for 10:00 am Friday, June 12, 2009 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Brother Dewey Blevins.  Interment will follow at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Timmy Lee Hart

Timmy Lee Hart, age 37, passed from this life on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at Medical Center Hospital.  He was born in Rankin to Earl and Shirley Ann Hart on April 10, 1972.  He was a roughneck in the oilfield for 15 years.  

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife:  Belinda Goolsby Hart of Odessa; his mother and step-father:  Shirley and James Scantling of Odessa; three sons:  Dustin Lee Hart, Chris Lee Hart, and Timmy Lee Hart, Jr. all of Odessa; two daughters:  Crystal Navarette and Stephine Michale Hart, both of Odessa; two brothers:  Lee Wesley Hart and wife Terri of El Reno, OK and Steven Glenn Havens and wife Crystal of Odessa; one sister:  Ann Henderson and husband Dean of Odessa; and one grandson:  Jaden Lee Hart;  Aunts and Uncles: Mark and Rose Staires, JoAnn McLendon, Ronnie and Bridget Dixon, Bud and Vickie Chandler, and Rita Faye Adams; cousins: Jimmy and Jake Staires, Branch Leaf Epperson, Brandi Lynn and Dorothy Elizabeth Adams, and many nieces and nephews.  

Preceding him in death is his brother: Glenn Leroy Havens. 

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Jess Little.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Elizabeth Rios Cortez

Elizabeth Rios Cortez, age 59, of Odessa, went to be with the Lord on Thursday June 11, 2009 at home. She was surrounded by her family and friends. She was born to Alberto Rios Sr. and Hilaria Hinojos Rios on March 19, 1950 in Alpine TX. Elizabeth moved to Odessa as a baby and spent most of her life there. She graduated from Ector High School and attended Odessa College where she received a certification as a nurse aide. Elizabeth was a Christian and raised her children to be strong, independent Christians. She worked for Nurses Unlimited, Starcare and several other agencies as a home health aide nurse for over 25 years. She was a volunteer for Odyssey Home Health and Hospice for several years as well. Elizabeth was a devoted mother, a hard worker and the heart of her family. Everyone she met was a friend.  

She was preceded in death by her son: James R. Cortez and her daughter: Ester R. Cortez, her father: Alberto Rios Sr. and her nephew: Daniel Rios Jr. 

Survivors include her mother: Hilaria H. Rios of Odessa; four brothers: Seferino Rios, Alberto Rios Jr., Manuel Rios and Daniel Rios Sr., all of Odessa; and three sisters: Liandra Olivarez and Maria Ramirez, both of Odessa, and Celia Rios of Seminole. 

She was blessed with six children, Juan R. Cortez Jr., Esteban R. Cortez, Corina N. Cortez, Dominic A. Cortez and Edward R. Cortez Sr., all of Odessa, and James A. Cortez of San Antonio, TX. She had 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.  

The Rios and Cortez families would like to thank everyone for their support and prayers. Elizabeth was loved by many and will be greatly missed. She will always have a place in our hearts.  

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 am Monday, June 15, 2009 at Latter Rain Worship Center. Officiating is Pastor Craig DeArmond. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Garden of Ector County Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Linden Berry Isbell

Linden Berry Isbell, age 69, of Odessa, Texas, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2009, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas.  He was born in Nancy, Kentucky on July 5, 1939.  He was a member of Vine Baptist Church and a US Army Veteran. 

He was preceded in death by his parents:  Oscar Leo Isbell and Nannie Marie (Burton) Isbell and one brother:  Jim Isbell. 

He is survived by his wife:  Flossie Deloris (Parker) Isbell; one daughter:  Marie Sveendsen and husband Terry of Browntown, WI; three sons:  Linden Isbell, Jr. and wife Janey of Somerset, KY, Steven Isbell and wife Rosemary and Jason Isbell, all of Bement, IL; step-son:  Damon Allen Faulk of Odessa; three sisters:  Fannie Lea Auten of Tulsa, OK, Nellie Taylor and Nancy Lacy both of Bement, IL; brother:  Bill Isbell and wife Mabel of Bement, IL; and five grandchildren:  Stevie Isbell, Jr., Cassandra Sveendsen, Jousha Sveendsen, Matthew Blake Isbell, and Cody Lane Isbell.  

Memorial services will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd, Odessa, Texas.

Orvel R. Wheeler

Orvel R. Wheeler, age 85, of Odessa, passed away Sunday June 14, 2009 at his residence.  He was born in Cross Plains, TX on April 13, 1924 to Charlie Clinton Wheeler and Minnie R. (Flowers) Wheeler.  He was an oilfield worker and a US Navy Veteran.  He was Baptist. 

Orvel is survived by his wife: Dorothy Jean Wheeler of Odessa; son: Larry Don Wheeler of Odessa; four daughters:  Linda Gail Sanders of Vincent, TX, Carolyn Jean Thompson, Margaret Ann Armstrong, and Gayla Jean Wheeler, all of Odessa; sisters:  Eva Mae Puryear of Clyde and Valta Brock of Big Spring; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. 

Memorial services will be 10:00 am Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Jimmy Braswell.  Arrangements are by Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Maria Guadalupe F. Ramirez

Maria Guadalupe F. Ramirez, a beloved mother and grandmother passed away Thursday, June 18, 2009 at the age of 103. She was born December 12, 1905 in Redford, TX to Angelita Lucerio and Ricardo Franco. On January 25, 1930, she married Antonio V. Ramirez in Cottle County, TX. They were married for 75 years.

 

Those left to cherish her loving memory are her three sons: Samuel Ramirez and wife, Daniel Ramirez, Jose Jesus “Pepe” Ramirez and wife, all of Odessa; three daughters: Rubéncia Rodriguez of Kansas, Gloria Venegas and husband of Odessa and Maria Jesus “Susy” Ramirez of Odessa; her grandchildren and great grandchildren expanding into her 6th generation. Our family was truly blessed to have her throughout all these years.         

 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Antonio V. Ramirez and two daughters: Irene Ramirez and Maria Refugia Arenivas.

 

A rosary is scheduled for 7pm Sunday, June 21, 2009 at Acres West Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Monday, June 22, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church officiated by Father Mark Mueller. Pallbearers will be first grand-daughters, Lila Garza, Yolanda Ramirez, Vilma Ramirez, Maria Angela Ramirez, Yara R. Ochoa and Andrea Aguilar. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Section of Ector County Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

 

The Ramirez family would like to thank everyone for their support and prayer. “Welita” was loved and will be greatly missed. She will always have a place in our hearts. We would also like to thank Star Hospice for their love and care.
