Deborah Paulette "Debbie" Badley, age 57, went to be with the Lord and her Mama on Monday, October 19, 2009.   She was born Monday, February 18, 1952 to Jerald David and Wanda Rue Folk in Colony, Kansas.  She was a homemaker, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. 

Debbie leaves behind to cherish her love and memory her father:  Jerald David Folk of Odessa; two daughters:  Jacque Laverne Blount  and husband Jim and Mashell Clarise Underwood, both of Odessa; three brothers:  Eddie Folk and wife Carolyn of Farmington, NM, Dan Folk and wife Jackie of McKinney, TX, and Mike Folk and wife Linda of Odessa; six grandchildren:  Terika Wagner, Nathan Roberson, Chase Blount, Codie Blount, Pickle Blount, and Harley Underwood; and one great-grandson:  Creed Wagner. 

She was preceded in death by Lewis Alton Biggers, the love of her life. From that love she was blessed with three step-children, Donna, Kevin and Edwin and 5 grandchildren, Mandy, Tena, Tiffany, Jenea and Barbara. 

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, October 23, 2009 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Lorrie Roehl.  Pallbearers will be Jerrod McCann, Scott Folk, Nathan Roberson, David Folk, Charles Folk and Boomer Bloomer. Asa Womack and Brant Folk are honorary pallbearers.  Interment will follow at Western Roses Memorial Park, 4100 N. FM 1788. 

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Medical Center CCU nurses, Maria and Ricky, for their love and support during her short time in the hospital, also to Nevaeh Hope’s Fellowship for all of their kindness, food and love for the family. 

Debra Joyce Nickens, age 49, passed from this life Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Medical Center Hospital.  She was born in Fort Worth, TX to Bill and Wanda (West) Mundy on July 12, 1960.  She married Larry Nickens November 26, 1987 in Winters, TX.  They were blessed with two sons.  She was a teacher.

Debra leaves behind her husband:  Larry Nickens of Odessa; two sons:  Russell Scott Nickens and Travis Wade Nickens, both of Odessa; her parents:  Bill and Wanda Mundy of Denton, TX; and one brother:  Von Mundy and wife Juanita of Flower Mound, TX; nephew:  Rusty Bentley of Abilene; and nieces:  Kelsey and Hanna Mundy of Flower Mound.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.  Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday, October 26, 2009 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Gary Douglas.  Pallbearers will be Joel Linsley, Jimmy Linsley, Trent Golden, Jason Bashong, Byron Cole and Justin Najera.  Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

O.B. White, age 83, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 23, 2009 at Regency Hospital. He was born in Mineral Wells on Tuesday, August 24, 1926 to Charlie White and Mary Martha. On January 24, 1986 he married Kay, the love of his life. O. B. worked as a mechanic. He owned and operated White Engine Repair and after retiring he worked at D & R Engine Service and Supply Co. Inc.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife: Kay of Odessa; one son: Jeff White of Midland, TX; one daughter: Connie Donahue of Orlando, FL; one sister: Orene Martell and husband Vick of Wichita, KS, and four grandchildren.

His daughter Beverly Jones precedes him in death.

Mary Delores Garza, age 56, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at Medical Center Hospital. She was born on Saturday, August 1, 1953 to Valentino Rudy Garza and Felia Rael. She was born in Odessa. Mary was a housewife. She was a Christian woman and attended Revelation 21 church faithfully. She was an awesome mother, daughter, sister and nana. She will be missed greatly by all who knew her.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are: her mother: Felia Garza of Odessa; two daughters: Amy Ordaz of Odessa and Lori Navarrete of San Diego, CA; two sisters: Christina Ramirez and Barbara Jacobo, both of Odessa. She was also blessed with seven grandchildren.

She is reunited with her father in heaven.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 pm Friday, October 30, 2009 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Pastor Eva Arevelo will be officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank the Intensive Care Unit of Medical Center Hospital and their staff for the care they gave. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

On Oct. 24, 2009, around 9 p.m., God called home one of his Angels. Beatrice Wright Batte was given a new assignment in Heaven.

She wore many hats throughout her lifetime. She was a licensed hairdresser, employee of Gibson Department Store, 7-11 Corporations, Grays Nursing Home and finally, the job she loved the most and retired from, was as a bus driver for Ector County Independent School District. To say she was well loved is inadequate. While on earth, she touched the life of every person that was privileged to cross her path. Many called her Bea, to others she was known as “Aunt Bea,” the neighborhood kids and all her bus students knew her as “Miss Bea,” but her grandchildren called her “Franmerry.” To quote one of her grandsons, “there are a lot of Meme’s, Grandmas and Nana’s, but there is and will only be one Franmerry.”

She leaves behind two children, Jimmie Allen Batte and wife, Sharon of Austin, Texas, and Linda Batte Shortes and husband David of Odessa, Texas; and a sister-in-law and lifetime friend, Ollie Batte Stallcup of Odessa, Texas.  She was blessed with several grandchildren, Zack, Kyle, and Bryan Shortes Jerod Batte and wife Jewly, and Jody Batte, all of Odessa, Texas, April Shortes Presley and husband Justin of Andrews, Texas, Deidra Marroquin and husband Abel of Cypress, Texas, and T.J. Tuten of Georgetown, Texas. Eleven great-grandchildren, and they all think they’re grand, which they are, Gunner and Brooklyn Presley of Andrews, Texas, Baylee Presley of New Mexico, Rosie Krattli and husband Corey of Hockley, Texas, A.J. Marroquin and Candace Marroquin of College Station, Texas, Gerry, Leslie and Karina Marroquin of Cypress, Texas, Tommy Tuten of Austin, Texas, Travis Rutherford of Alpine, Texas; three great-great-grandchildren, Koby and Kaiden Rutherford of Alpine, Texas, and Logan Krattli of Hockley, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews that all held a special place in her heart.

Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel E. and Margaret Wright; five sisters and two brothers; her husband of 39 years, Jimmie Cebron Batte; and one daughter, Joyce Yvonne Batte.

She was a beautiful unwavering believer in Jesus Christ and a faithful prayer warrior. God used her frequently to intercede on the behalf of numerous individuals. She was the backbone of her family, a beacon of light to the neighbors, friends, family and all her children are believers because of her exemplary life. She left behind a heritage to her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews that can’t be purchased.

There will be a Memorial held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at The Willows in Odessa, Texas. Arrangements are through Acres West Funeral Chapel of Odessa, Texas. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Home Hospice or Hospice House in Odessa.

Rosalio Ruiz, age 93, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at Hospice House in Odessa. He was born in Lajitas, TX. He was a rancher.

Survivors include five sons: Antonio Ruiz of Houston, Tomas Ruiz of Ojinaga, NM, Ramon Ruiz of Houston, Amalio Ramirez of Albuquerque, NM, and Joe Trevizo of Odessa; two daughters: Esbelda Ramirez of Albuquerque and Hortencia Trevizo of Odessa. 13 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Shirley Ann (Sutherland) Roberts Lee, age 73 of Odessa passed away Thursday, October 29, 2009 after a lengthy illness at Buena Vida Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Centerville (Wayne County), Indiana on March 22, 1936 to James Floyd and Mattie Will (Rich) Sutherland.  Shirley was a baptized member of the Worldwide Church of God. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Jeremy Lane Nichols.

Shirley received her high school diploma from Greens Fork, Indiana in 1954. She resumed her education after many years as a homemaker and earned a BA in English, graduating cum laude from Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas at the age of 60. Shirley previously worked  for Anderson Publishing in Denton, Texas before retiring in 2006. She was known to many for her excellent sewing and cooking skills; however Shirley’s passions were classical music, singing and reading. Her love of reading was taught to her by her mother and her wealth of knowledge on most any subject was self taught through reading. All who knew Shirley remember, she was seldom ever seen without a book to read in her possession.

She is survived by her former husband of 40 years, Darrell Desmond Roberts of Somerset, Ky., her children: son, Darwyn Lee and wife, Marilyn Roberts of Jamestown, Ky., daughter, Melanie Lynette and husband, Joe Taylor of Somerset Ky., daughter, Shari Laraine and husband, Roger Donovan of Clarkesville, Tn., daughter, Sheila Diane Hisaw King Wallis of Kermit, Tx.  (formerly from Odessa, Tx.), son, Kevin Lane Roberts of Naples FL., son, Scott Michael Roberts of Denver Co. son, Jeffrey Brian and wife, Margaret Roberts of Corbin Ky., daughter, Stephanie Dawn and husband, Allen Steadham of Odessa Tx., and daughter, Erica Nicole and husband, Michael Bek of Little Rock, Ark. There are 21 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Other survivors include: her sister Pauline (Polly) Marie and husband, Louis Conyers of Union City, In., brother James (Jimmy) Floyd and wife, Margaret (Maggie) of Hagerstown, In., sister Carolyn Smith, Hagerstown, In., brother Willie Wayne and wife, Marcia Southerland of Sanford, Fl., sister, Virginia Short of Richmond, In., brother, Jerry Duane and wife Aida Sutherland of Bouie, Maryland, and will live on in the memory of a large number of nieces, nephews, extended family members and many friends. 

Shirley’s personal request was to have no service. The family would like to thank the entire staff of Buena Vida Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Home Hospice and Acres West Funeral Chapel for their care and compassion, along with the many calls and concerns from friends.

Monica Rachael Munguia, age 28, passed away Friday, October 30, 2009 in Odessa.  She was born in Odessa.  She was a homemaker.  She was Catholic. 

Survivors include her father:  Richard Munguia, Sr. of Odessa; Grandparents:  Minga Dirickson of Odessa; Doris “Pat” Kneupper of Mc Camey, TX, Freddie Kneupper of Rankin, TX; three brothers:  Christopher Munguia, John Paul Munguia, and Richard Munguia, Jr. all of Odessa; and one sister:  Mica Ramos of Odessa. 

Rosary will be said 7:00 pm Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at the funeral home.  Funeral services will be 7:00 pm Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Bro. Dewey Blevins.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory.  

Salvador Escobedo, age 82, of Odessa, Texas, passed away Monday, November  2, 2009, at his home in Odessa, Texas.  He was born in Villanueva, Zacatecas, Mexico on April 14, 1927 to Fernando and Anastacia (Alcala) Escobedo.  He was a rancher and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. 

He is survived by one son:  Manuel Escobedo of Fort Worth, TX; five daughters:  Rosario Ojeda of Fort Worth, TX, and Anastacia Reyes, Rosa Munoz, Leticia Escobedo, and Juana Escobedo, all of Odessa, TX; three brothers:  Panfilo Escobedo of Juarez, Mexico, Carmelo Escobedo of Los Angeles, CA, and Julio Escobedo of Juarez, MX; thirty-seven grandchildren and seventy-nine great-grandchildren.   

Rosary will be said 7:00 pm Thursday, November 5, 2009 at Acres West’s 24 Hour Chapel.  Funeral mass will be at St Joseph's Catholic Church 2:00 pm Friday, November  6, 2009 .  Interment will be at the Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery.
