Shana Walker Cree

Shana Walker Cree, age 55, passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2010 in Abilene, TX.  She was born in Littlefield, TX on October 11, 1955 to Herb O. and Wewona Mae (Logan) Walker.  She was a homemaker, beloved mother, and grandmother. She was a member of Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Sweetwater.

Those left to cherish her memory are her father: Herb (H.O.) Walker of Odessa; sons:  Aaron Cree of Sweetwater, Anthony Cree of Austin, and James Green of Odessa; daughters: Azure Hurt of Collinsville, OK and Janet Bell of Odessa; sister: Regina Gaston of Aledo, TX; and fifteen grandchildren: Stevie Hurt, Adyson Hurt, Zackary Hurt, Damian Cree, Tristan Cree, Tiana Cree, Aryina Cree, Abriana Cree, Diablolik Cree, Dante Cree, Aaron Cree, Dominic Cree, Daniella Cree, Casey Bell, and Deanna Bell.

Her mother preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Tom Fraley and Rev. Johnny Thomason.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory. 

Vicki Lynn Franks

Vicki Lynn Franks, age 50, passed from this life on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Medical Center Hospital.  She was born in Sculthorpe, England to Leroy and Patricia (Webb) Griffin on March 5, 1960.  She married Charlie Franks in Odessa on October 23, 1979.  She was Charlie’s Angel.  She was a homemaker, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a nurse’s aide and always helped others.

Vicki enjoyed cooking and would cook at the bowling alley, where she adopted all the kids.  She loved children.  She was a feisty lady who was fun to be around.  At home, she spent time in her flower gardens and mothered her dog “Jo-Jo” and cat “Chevy”.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her husband:  Charlie Franks of Odessa; father:  Leroy Griffin of Stephenville, TX; mom:  Patricia Owens of Odessa; dad:  Malcolm Owen of Odessa; two sons:  Charlie Franks Jr. and Toby Franks and wife Ashley Gray, all of Odessa; one daughter:  Melissa Evans of Odessa; three brothers:  Robbie L. Owens and wife Cynthia of Schriever, LA, Jeff Owens and wife Marsha of Stephenville, TX and Malcolm E. Owens and wife Shelly of Odessa; seven grandchildren:  Justin Taylor, Dakota Shane, Travis Ray, Aubrey Grace, Garrett, Madison Kay, and Trinity Faith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am Monday, October 18, 2010 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Jimmy Braswell.  Interment will follow at Rose Hill Garden of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Nancy A. Johnson

Nancy A. Johnson, age 77, of Odessa, Texas, passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2010, at Medical Center Hospital.  She was born in Fairfield, IL on June 26, 1933 to Harry and Chlorene (Wilson) Blads.  She was a nurse. 

She is survived by her husband Dennis Johnson of Odessa; one daughter:  Jyl Johnson of Tulsa, Okla.; son:  Mark Johnson of Incline Village, Nev.; one sister:  Frances Miller of Nokomis, Fla.; and four grandchildren.    

 Her parents and two children: Renee and Michelle, preceded in death.

Memorial services will be at a later date.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory. 

Johnny Salcido Ornelas

Johnny Salcido Ornelas, age 60, passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Hospice House of Odessa. He was born in Balmorhea on April 6, 1950 to Caunito and Josefina (Ramos) Salcido.  He was Catholic.

 He is survived by three daughters:  Sara Ornelas of Midland, Jeanette Ornelas Alvarez of Odessa and Leslie Bernal of Odessa; two sons:  Jonathan Benavides and Nicholas Benavides both of Odessa; five brothers:  Smiley Ornelas and Larry Ornelas of Roswell, NM, Juan Salcido and Manuel Salcido of Pecos, and Dennis Webber of Odessa; three sisters:  Connie Orona, Margarita Rodriguez, and Lecha Dutchover, all of Odessa; and five grandchildren:  Nathaniel Alvarez, Sidney Ornelas, Gabriel Bernal, Stephanie Bernal, and Salvador Bernal.

 Rosary will be 7:30 pm Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Thelma K. Dennis

Thelma K. Dennis, 71, was called to her Heavenly home on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at her Odessa residence.  She was born in Crane, TX on November 9, 1938 to the late Howard Hands Dennis Sr. and Kittie Thelma (Thorp) Dennis.  She was a retired store clerk.  She attended Zion Ministries Church.  Thelma was a beloved daughter, sister, and aunt.

She is survived by her sisters:  Jessie Leola Dennis Fuller and Mary Ellen Dennis Brown, both of Odessa and many nieces and nephews.

Her parents, husband:  Jimmy Joe Thomas, and brother:  Howard Hands Dennis, Jr. precede her in death. 

Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Dr. Dewey Blevins and Pastor Carrie Stanton.  Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Ambrosio Jr. Carbajal

Ambrosio Jr. Carbajal, age 48, passed away on  Monday, October 18, 2010 at his Odessa residence.  He was born in Lamesa on September 17, 1962 to Ambrosio Sr. and Anacelia (Gomez) Carbajal.  He was an insulation worker.  He married Amabelia Benavides on April 16, 1994 in Odessa.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife:  Amabelia Benavides of Odessa; parents:  Ambrosio Sr. and Anarelia Carbajal of Lamesa; three daughters:  Cassandra Carbajal, Priscilla Carbajal, and Amanda Carbajal, all of Odessa; three sons: Ofrael Carbajal, Eli Carbajal, and Abraham Carbajal, all of Odessa; two brothers:  Benjermain Carbajal of Lamesa and Alex Carbajal of Midland; three sisters:  Yolanda Carbajal of Odessa, Estella Carbajal of San Angelo, and Lury Carbajal of Lamesa; and one granddaughter:  Tatiana Valdez of Odessa.

Prayer service will be 7:30 pm on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Acres West 24 Hour Chapel. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Templo Betania, officiated by Pastor Roberto Sabas.  Interment will follow at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Jose T. Muniz

Jose T. Muniz, age 54, passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at his Odessa residence.  He was born in Presidio, TX on January 9, 1956 to Tomas and Juana (Tarango) Muniz.  He worked as a butcher.  He was also a talented musician. 

Survivors include his wife:  Viola Muniz of Odessa; sons: Joe-Tom Muniz and Jonathan G. Muniz, both of Odessa; daughter: Rose Margaret Lozano of Odessa; brothers: Manuel Muniz and Ruben Muniz, both of Odessa; sisters: Alicia Muniz, Juanita Muniz, Tomasa Serna, Elva Porras, Emma Porras, Elvira Rey, Maria Aguirre, Elia Rubio, and Maricela Olivas, all of Odessa; and three grandchildren. 

Rosary will be 7:30 pm on Sunday and Monday, October 24 and 25, 2010 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 am Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, officiated by Father Bernardito.  Interment will follow at Los Angeles Gardens in Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.


 
Imani Francesca Gomez

Imani Francesca Gomez, age 6 months, returned to Heaven on Thursday, October 21, 2010 in Lubbock, TX. She was born on April 22, 2010 in Lubbock, TX.

She is survived by her parents: Jonathan Gomez and Danielle Dunn, both of Odessa; maternal grandparents; Brenda Garms of Odessa and Phillip Dunn of Honolulu, HI; paternal grandparents: Maria Patino of Odessa, and James Gomez of Georgetown, TX; paternal great-grandparents: Manuela and Ismael Taboada of Odessa, and Mary Gomez of Mansfield, TX. 

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa. Interment will follow at Los Angeles Gardens of Ector County Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

John A. "Johnny" Grimes

John A. Grimes, age 62, died Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Medical Center Hospital.  He was born in Linden, TN on October 17, 1948 to William and Illa (Barber) Grimes.  He was an oilfield laborer. He was a member of the Church of God. He was a good hearted man who would do anything for anyone.  He was a skilled mechanic, who loved to clown around and drink beer.

He is survived by four sons:  Johnny Gamel of CA, David Gamel, Christopher Gamel, and Timothy Gamel, all of Odessa; one step daughter:  Charlotte Barker of CA; six grandchildren; ex-wife:  Betty Barker and husband Leroy Johnson of Odessa. 

Funeral services will be 6:00 pm Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Bro. Dewey Blevins and Pastor Carrie Stanton.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Thelma Boone Clower

Thelma Boone Clower passed away on Monday, October 25, 2010 in Odessa, TX.  She was born Thelma Ruth Boone, the sixth child of Matt and Sibbie Boone of Vera, TX on March 7, 1930.  Our mother was 80 years old.  She married young to a man known to us as “Pop” or “Dad”, Walter Junior Clower, on January 24, 1946.  They enjoyed over 46 years of marriage before he passed away on June 30, 1992.  She was a homemaker – beloved wife, great mom, and the greatest grandmother.  She was our “Rock”.

She leaves behind her foundation, her children:  Jeff and Linda Clower of Jacksboro, Steve and Marlene Clower of Gardendale, and June Overton, Suzanne Clower, and Rod Clower, all of Odessa.  She also leaves her brother:  Earnest Boone of Odessa and all of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband:  Junior; her parents:  Sibble and Bud Boone; two sisters:  Lois and Dot; and four brothers:  Clifford, Harvey, Dan and Tony.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the Community Center in Vera, TX, officiated by Wayne Harden.  Interment will follow at the Vera Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel of Odessa, and online condolences may be sent at acreswestfuneral.com.

W. S. Oats

W. S. Oats, age 88, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2010 at Hospice House of Odessa.  He was born on August 12, 1922 in Charleston, TX to W. C. Oats and Esta (Adair) Oats. 

He married Gwendolyn Ann Frazier on April 10, 1950 in Hobbs, NM.  He served in the US Air Force for many years.  He and his family were stationed in France and Europe before his retirement from the service in 1962.  Following retirement, they moved to Odessa where he began his second career as a realtor, opening W.S. “Red” Oats Real Estate.  Mr. Oats took great pleasure in matching the families to the right home and received a Salesman of the Year Award.

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his wife:  Gwendolyn Ann Oats of Odessa; daughter:  Sharon Bennett of Odessa; and two grandsons:  Ryan Bennett of Denton and Rex Bennett of Brownwood.

His parents:  W. C. Oats and Esta Oats, and his brother:  Marion Kanada Oats, precede him in death.

Funeral services will be at 12 noon Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastors Carrie Stanton and Terry Tamplen.  Interment with full military honors will be 3:00 pm at O’Donnell Cemetery in O’Donnell, Texas.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

 
Corina C. Figueroa

Corina C. Figueroa, age 73, went to rest in the arms of her Savior on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at her home in Odessa. She was born in La Esmeralda, Chihuahua, Mexico on March 6, 1937 to Jose & Victoriana Carrasco. She married Pastor Pedro B. Figueroa on October 18, 1982 in Odessa. She was a homemaker, a beloved wife and mother, and a doting grandmother who loved to spoil her grandchildren. Before falling ill, she enjoyed composing, singing and playing her guitar.

Mrs. Figueroa was an active member of the First Apostolic Assembly in the Faith of Jesus Christ, Inc., especially in the Ladies’ Group. She was a leader of the women’s choir for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Figueroa were currently involved in a mission to build a church in Lamesa.

She is survived by her husband: Pedro B. Figueroa of Odessa; three daughters: Dora Brito and husband Bernabe and Elisa Cemental, all of Odessa, and Rachel Cemental and best friend Tracy Waldrop of Spicewood, TX; two brothers: Roberto Carrasco and Raymundo Carrasco, both of Crane; six sisters: Eva Molina of Odessa, Francisca Carrasco of Del Rio, Sonia Bustillos of Abilene, and Elizama Valenzuela, Noemi Daza, and Zilpa Solorio, all of El Paso; and six grandchildren: Gabriel Estrada, Stevie Ray Cemental, Julian Estrada, Eli Jacob Garcia, Andrew Garcia, and Bianca Brito.

She is preceded by death by her parents: Jose Carrasco and Victoriana (Lujan) Carrasco; two brothers: Gilberto and Israel Carrasco; and one sister: Elvira Gonzalez.

Her husband and daughters would like to thank the staff at Visiting Nurses of Del Rio, her nurses from In Home Care and the amazing volunteers from Meals On Wheels for providing her with their services.

Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 28, 2010 and Celebration Service at 7 p.m. at the First Apostolic Assembly in the Faith of Christ Jesus, Inc. Church.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am Friday, October 29, 2010 at the First Apostolic Assembly in the Faith of Christ Jesus, Inc. Church, 5533 Mapp St. in Odessa, officiated by Pastor Roman Arreola. Interment will follow in the Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Michael Shawn Williams

Michael Shawn Williams, age 39, passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at his Odessa residence.  He was born in Odessa on September 7, 1971 to Michael Shelby Williams and Kathy (Brooks) Williams.  He married Tymber Gorsky on July 30, 2010 in Odessa.  He was an oilfield compressor mechanic.

Shawn was an outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He was a very family oriented guy who loved spending time with children, hanging out with his nieces and nephews. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife:  Tymber Williams of Odessa; parents:  Michael and Kathy Williams of McCamey; maternal grandparents:  Bill and Lela Brooks of Odessa; two step sons:  Tyler and Byron Swain of Odessa; one sister:  Shelbra Williams of McCamey; two nieces:  Megan and Michaela Williams of McCamey; a nephew:  Jordan Boguszewicz of McCamey; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Memorial services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Johnny Thomason.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Jack Ralph Hargraves

Jack Ralph Hargraves, age 89, passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2010, at his Odessa home.  He was born in Corona, NM on September 23, 1921 to Ervin Louise and John H. Hargraves.  He was Protestant. 

He was an Air Force pilot, working his way up through the ranks, retiring after 23 years of service with the rank of Captain.  During his career, he served in the Strategic Air Command (1946 – 1964) and worked on war planes while stationed at Seymore Johnson AFB and Westover AFB. 

He is survived by his wife and companion:  D'Adra Leonard Hargraves of Odessa; step-daughter:  Diana Goode of Haskell; five grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.    

His parents; first wife:  Euphrosyne (Strickland) Hargraves; and daughter:  Jacqueline Louise Acton, precede him in death.   

Private services will be at a later date.  Interment will be at Texas State Veteran’s Cemetery at Abilene.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory. 

 
Voncile “Babe”  Strait

Voncile “Babe”  Strait, age 82, of Odessa passed away Thursday, November  4, 2010, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. She was born on January 3, 1928 to James Augustus and Irene Abigail (Thurman) Cochrane in Gainesville, TX.  

Voncile grew up during the Great Depression. She was a very frugal person and put herself through college, earning PhDs in English and Psychology. She was a fourth grade teacher for years and taught at Austin Elementary. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and Kappa Kappa IOTA Beta Gamma. 

Voncile was a perfectionist and believed in giving 100% percent in all that you do. She loved working Word Jumble puzzle in the newspaper every day. She also loved to shop and enjoyed her Caribbean cruise. She dearly loved her white Pomeranian, Angel Baby, who passed away in August; exactly six weeks to the day. 

She is survived by her daughter-Vangie Voncile McMillan of Odessa; one grandchild: Jackson McMillan of Odessa; and two great-grandchildren: Autumn Rain and Talon of Odessa.    

She was preceded in death by parents: James and Irene Cochrane; and sister: Pauline Cochrane. 

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Elsie Mohler and Linda Baker for their friendship and help and to the Northside Senior Center. 

Arrangements are being handled by Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd, Odessa, Texas. Funeral services will be at Acres West Funeral Chapel at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 9, 2010, officiated by Brother Dewey Blevins.  Interment will be on Friday, November 12, 2010 at 9:00 am at Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville, TX.
