Loretta Bell Bond

Loretta Bell (Dunn) Bond, age 74, passed from this life on March 9, 2011 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.  She was born in Garvin County, Oklahoma on November 25, 1936 to Oliver Lafate Dunn and Pearl Pauline (Buckner) Dunn.  On June 20, 1955, she married Jasper Bond in Jal, NM.  They enjoyed over 55 years of marriage before he preceded her on her Heavenly journey January 7, 2011.   She was a member of the Cornerstone First Assembly of God Church.

Mrs. Bond leaves to cherish her loving memory two sons:  Kendal Jasper Bond of Odessa and Leslie Wayne Bond and wife Abigail Ann of Jal; daughter:  Sharon Kay Clary of Odessa; three brothers:  Royce Dunn and wife Glenda of Kermit, Doyle Dunn and wife Lois of Odessa, and Alton Dunn and wife Peggy of Jal, NM; sister:  Karon Moffett of Las Cruces, NM; grandchildren:  Chad, Jonathan, Candace, Michael, Summer, Misty, Amanda, Chiane, and Becky; and numerous great-grandchildren. 

Her parents; her husband:  Jasper Bond; and one granddaughter:  Crystal Kay Clary, precede her in death. 

Funeral services will be 10 am Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Cornerstone Worship Center, 1821 East Yukon, Odessa, officiated by Rev. Johnnie Storz.  Interment will follow at Kermit Cemetery in Kermit, TX at 1pm.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Artemio Guadalupe Rodriguez Villanueva, III

Artemio Guadalupe Rodriguez Villanueva, III, age 5, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2011, at his residence in Odessa.  He was born in Dallas, TX on May 18, 2005.  He was a kindergarten student.   

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his parents:  Artemio Villanueva II and Mireya (Rodriguez) Villanueva of Odessa; three sisters:  Esmeralda Villanueva, Ruby Villanueva, and Perla Villanueva, all of Odessa; two brothers:  Jonathan Villanueva of Odessa and Jovani Cardoza of Houston; maternal grandparents:  Maria and Guadalupe Rodriguez of Odessa; paternal grandparents:  Maria and Artemio Villanueva Sr. of Odessa; maternal great-grandfather:  Matias Hinojos of Odessa; and paternal great-grandmother:  Guadalupe Piña of Odessa.

A prayer service will be 7:00 pm Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Funeral mass will be at St. Anthony Catholic Church at 10:00 AM Wednesday, March 16, 2011, Father Mark Miller officiating.  Interment will be at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Sherry Marie Nelson Sturdivant

Sherry Marie (Springs) Nelson Sturdivant, age 53, of Odessa, died Thursday, March 17, 2011, in Odessa in a fatal accident.  She was born in Bakersfield, CA on October 4, 1957 to J.T. Springs and Shirley Marie (Knott) Springs.  She cleaned houses.  She was Baptist.

Sherry was an avid animal lover.  She was a good cook, who loved family get togethers and was the life of any party.  She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband:  Lonnie Sturdivant of Odessa; one daughter:  Christina Blair of Midland; one son:  Thomas Nelson of Odessa; three sisters:  Kay Lackey of Odessa and Vickie Fulton and Patricia Millican, both of Brownfield; one brother:  Ben Strawn of Odessa; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.      

Memorial services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Josefina Estrella

Josefina (Navarrete) Estrella, age 55, of Odessa, Texas, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2011, at Medical Center Hospital.  She was born in La Paz de Mexico, Chihuahua, Mexico on April 19, 1955 to Eliseo and Juanita (Nieto) Navarrete.  She was a homemaker and a bookkeeper.  She was Catholic. 

She is survived by her husband:  Gilberto Estrella of Odessa; three sons:  Gilbert Estrella, Jr. of Wylie, TX, and Adrian Clay Estrella and Alexis Estrella, both of Odessa; two brothers, four sisters, and three grandchildren.   

Rosary will be said 7:30 pm Monday, March 21, 2011 at Acres West 24 Hour Chapel.  Graveside services will be at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 22, 2011, Fr. Mark Miller officiating.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Carlotta Shaver

Carlotta departed to her heavenly home on Friday, March 18 at Medical Center Hospital.

 

Graveside services for Carlotta Ann Shaver, 64, of Odessa are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. 

 

She was born in Kermit, Texas.

 

She married Howard Shaver on May 23, 1964.  Together, they raised four children and two grandchildren.  Her kids and grandkids were the apple of her eye.  She was a very loving and adoring wife, mother, and grandmother.  She retired from MHMR after nineteen years of service. 

 

She enjoyed crocheting blankets and entering them into the county fair.  She brought home ribbons every year (normally the blue ribbons).  She also loved making blankets for her family. We always looked forward to Christmas to see what Mom was going to make for us.  She made clothes, blankets, teddy bears, pajamas, etc.  These will be treasured for years to come.  Her bright smile always brought more to our lives than words could ever express.

 

Although we know she’ll be happy in heaven, we who are left behind will miss her terribly.  Gone, but never forgotten.  We love you, Mom.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Rosalyn Ross.  Survivors include husband, Howard Shaver; daughters, Angela Roghair and husband Rex, Shelly Wilks and husband Shawn, Rebecca Pruitt; son, Dennis Shaver and wife Carrie; nine grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Billie "Susie" Marlene Bunkley

Billie Marlene (Hutson) Bunkley, age 54, of Odessa, Texas, (formerly of Abilene) died Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Hospice House in Odessa, Texas.  She was born in Stamford, TX on April 4, 1956 to William Alfred Hutson and Marlene Skiles-Logan.  She was a framer in construction.  She was Baptist. 

She is survived by her two sons:  Russell Hutson of Odessa, Texas and Bret Bunkley of Dublin, Texas; and four grandchildren:  Dillon Hutson of Amarillo, TX, Timber Hutson and Tabitha Hutson of Odessa and Kayson Bunkley of Dublin, TX. 

Her parents and two brothers precede her in death.      

Memorial services will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd, Odessa. 

Gregory Taylor Johnson

Gregory Taylor Johnson, age 56, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2011 at Medical Center Hospital.  He was born in Odessa on March 31, 1954.  He was an oilfield laborer. 

His parents:  Omer Atwood Johnson and Jessie W. (Barker) Johnson, precede him in death.  He is survived by a host of friends. 

Visitation will be 4 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Graveside services will be 10:30 am Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Waunita J. Warren

Waunita J. Warren, age 78, of Odessa, Texas, passed from this life on Sunday, March 20, 2011, at Medical Center Hospital.  She was born in Jefferson City, Missouri on January 31, 1933 to Edward Silver Davidson and Tina Marie (Smith) Davidson.  She was a homemaker and had co-owned and operated Nita’s Fashion Shop in Kermit.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband: Don Slator of Odessa; two daughters:  JoAnn Sayles and husband Meredith of Brownwood and Linda Fleming of Overton; one son:  Garland Warren and wife Linda of Leander; and seven grandchildren.   

Her parents, two brothers:  Alvie and Bill Davidson, and three sisters:  Wanda Folk, Billi Mae Stoner, and Della Mitchell, precede her in death.  

Family visitation will be from 6 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the funeral home.  Funeral services will be at Acres West Funeral Chapel at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 23, 2011, Pastor Lorrie Roehl officiating.  Interment will follow at West Texas Memorial Park in Midland.   Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel of Odessa. 

Herbert C. Henderson

Herbert C. Henderson, age 82, of Odessa, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Hospice House.  He was born March 9, 1929 in Stark, KS to the late Fred and Rose (Furrey) Henderson.  He was a manager for Anadarko. 

He is survived by his two daughters:  Valerie Lynn Gray of Odessa and Lori Simmon of Wyoming; one son:  Mark Henderson of Denver, Colo.; sister:  Margaret Fredrick of Osawatomie, Kan.; three brothers:  Larry Henderson of Huber Heights, Ohio, Robert Henderson of Topeka, Kan. and Don Henderson of Florida; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.       

Memorial services will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory. 

David Howell

David Howell, age 75, of Odessa, passed from this life on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Medical Center Hospital.  He was born in Levelland, TX on March 8, 1936 to Henry Robert Howell and Mearl (Martin) Howell.  He was a US Navy Veteran.  David was very proud of his country and always flew his flag at his home.  He held a commission of Colonel in the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, and a Lifetime Member of AMBUCS.  After his military service, he worked as a salesman. 

Mr. Howell was a longtime member of Kingston Avenue Baptist Church and always put God first.  His next priority was his wife and children and he was a loving husband and father.  He was very supportive to Jil in all of her activities at school and church and enjoyed cheering on Jack at his sporting events.  He was the rowdy one that was always making lots of noise.  He was a character, who enjoyed practical jokes and water fights, always teasing and joking.  Everyone loved to be at his and Mary’s house.  He never met a stranger and if you met him, you never forgot him.  He left an impression.  For many years he gave out a card that said, “Hello, I am David Howell, if you forget me, you won’t have lost much.  If you forget Jesus, you will have lost everything.  John 3:16.”  He enjoyed model trains and collectible Precious Moments figurines. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife:  Mary “Kathy” Howell of Odessa; one son:  Jack Howell of Austin; daughter:  Jil Goleman and husband Tom of Corpus Christi; and three brothers:  Duane Howell and wife Ruth of Lubbock, Aubrey Howell and wife Jewell of Shallowater, and Ray Howell and wife Lura of Lubbock. 

His parents:  Henry and Mearl Howell; son:  David Earl Howell; brother:  Virgil Howell; and sister:  Ida Pearl Howell, precede him in death. 

A family visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:00 pm Thursday evening, March 24, 2011 at Kingston Avenue Baptist Church.  Memorial services with military honors will be 2:00 pm Friday, March 25, 2011 at Kingston Avenue Baptist Church, officiated by Bro. Bryan Trant and Aubrey Howell.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Diana “Tina” Young Powers

Diana “Tina” Young Powers was born September 2, 1954 to Ira and Dixie Young.  She grew up in Odessa, where she attended Ector High School.  She married Eugene Powers March 15, 1976 in Odessa, TX.  She used her love of helping people to become a CNA and worked at Sienna Care Center until she retired due to her own illness in 2009.  She was called to heaven on Wednesday, March 23, 2011.

She was preceded in death by her father:  Ira Young.

She is survived by her loving family – husband:  Eugene; two sons:  Anterio Eugene Powers and Antwan Powers; two beautiful grandchildren:  Liyah Powers and Anterio Eugene Powers, Jr.; her mother:  Dixie Young; four brothers:  Ira Young, Jr., B.J. Young, Raythelle Young, and Michael Young; and two sisters:  Marie Hall and Cathy Young.

Diana and her family wish to thank all of the West Texas Cancer Center Staff and Dr. Khandelwal and Dr. Ramanathan (they were wonderful doctors.)  Also, thank you to Compass Hospice Staff, especially Cindy, who was there each time we called, Judy and Kerry.  Thank you to friends and family for your help and support during Diana’s illness.

Diana wishes to thank her husband, Eugene, for a wonderful life and for loving her and making her wishes come true.  She will see you all again and will be waiting with open arms.

Funeral services will be 12 noon, Saturday, March 26, 2011 at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Roger T. McNeil.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Richard Lynn Whitfield

Richard Lynn Whitfield, age 53, of Odessa, passed from this life on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Medical Center Hospital.  He was born in Big Spring, TX on April 17, 1957 to Merlin Whitfield and Margaret (Price) Whitfield.  Richard worked for years as a waiter at Pojo’s. Prior to Pojo’s, he worked at Golden Corral and Furr’s. 

Richard was always a kind big-hearted person. He would bend over backwards to help others. He could always make you smile and laugh. Richard was a very artistic person and enjoyed painting with oil and water paints and drawing with pen, ink, and pencil. His hobbies included making jewelry and cooking. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his lifetime partner: Ralph Wiant of Odessa; one aunt:  Ruth Price and three cousins:  Barbara Snyder, Diane Price, and Michael Price, all of Port Arthur, Texas. 

His parents preceded him in death. 

Memorial services will be 6:00 pm Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Laveta Shelton.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

 
Gloria Jeannie Baker Blue

Gloria Jeannie Baker Blue, age 69, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2011 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. She was born in Pampa, TX on February 12, 1942 to the late Harvey and Pauline (Hitt) Baker. She was a homemaker. 

Survivors include her husband:  Kenneth Blue of Odessa; sons: Carl Andrew Blue of Corpus Christi and Johnny Blue of San Francisco, CA; daughters: Carla Gayle Blue of Odessa, and Debbie Blue and Laura Blue of Hestoria, CA; and three grandchildren:  Jonathon McDaniel, Brandon McDaniel and Casey McDaniel, all of Odessa. 

A memorial service will be held at a later date. 

Julia Janet Ramos

Julia Janet Ramos, age 25, of Odessa, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2011, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born in Odessa on July 25, 1985 to Jesus Ramos and Adela (Natividad) Bujanda.  She married Daniel Araujo in Sublette, KS on November 30, 2002.  

Julia enjoyed traveling and hanging out with friends and family. She also loved to cook. She was a very loving mother to her children. 

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her husband Daniel Araujo of Odessa; daughter:  Abigail Araujo; sons: Alex Vansor, Alan Araujo, and Aidan Araujo; father:  Jesus Ramos; mother:  Adela Bujanda; one sister:  Natalie Ramirez; and four brothers: Isaac Ramos, Reymundo Ramirez, Samuel Bujanda, and Miguel Bujanda, all of Odessa.    

A prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Acres West 24 Chapel.  Funeral services will be at Iglesia Del Camino at 10:00 AM Thursday, March 31, 2011, Julia Martinez officiating.  Pallbearers will be Daniel Araujo, Jesus Ramos, Miguel Bujanda, Isaac Ramos, Marcelino Araujo, Reymundo Ramirez, and Angel Madaleno. Interment will be at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Juan Carrasco

Juan Carrasco, age 33, of Odessa, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 25, 2011 at Medical Center Hospital.  He was born in Odessa on March 25, 1978.  He was Catholic. 

He is survived by his wife:  Amanda Carrasco of Odessa; parents:  Juan M. and Naomi Carrasco of Odessa; maternal grandparents:  Rita and Monseis Carrasco of Odessa; paternal grandparents:  Enedina and Ruben Muñoz, Sr. of Odessa; maternal great-grandmother:  Maria Ortiz of Grandfalls; three sons:  Jonathan Carrasco, Ryan Brito, and Juan Carrasco, Jr., all of Odessa; three daughters:  Alena Yvetta Carrasco and Maria Carrasco, both of Odessa and Samantha Lopez of Austin; brother:  Joe Angel Muñoz of San Antonio; and five sisters:  Priscilla Ginger Tejeda of Odessa, Georgina Muñoz and Jasmine Muñoz, both of San Antonio, Jarmina Muñoz of Odessa, and Jermina Muñoz of San Antonio. 

Rosary will be 7:30 pm Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Acres West 24 Hour Chapel.  Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, officiated by Father Mark Miller.  Interment will follow at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Emma Sue “Peggy” Threatt

Emma Sue “Peggy” Threatt, age 69, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Parks Methodist Retirement Village.  She was born in Big Spring, TX on November 8, 1941 to the late Jake and Mildred (Billing) McNew.  She was a homemaker.  She was Baptist. 

She is survived by three sons:  Wayne Evans, Gary Kibby, and Freddy Kibby, all of Moss Point, MS; four daughters:  Lavetia Sue Porter of Pascagoula, MS, Sharron Stone of Azel, TX, Renee Strickland of Blackshear,  GA, and Rachel Frew of Moss Point, MS; sister:  Ruth Norris of Odessa; eighteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. 

Her parents, husband:  Bobby Threatt, brother:  Freddy Morton, and sister:  Thelma English, precede her in death. 

Memorial services will be privately held.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Ilene Fay Hightower

Ilene Fay Hightower of Odessa, age 70, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Medical Center Hospital.  She was born in Burnett, Texas on October 29, 1940 to William Smith Bradley and Mildred (Franklin) Bradley.  She married Robert R. Hightower on May 3, 1956 in Odessa.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church. 

She is survived by her husband: Robert R. Hightower of Odessa; son: Earl Dewayne Hightower and wife Pam of Hobbs, NM; daughter: Robin Paige and husband Dennis of Kissimmee, Florida; brother: Jimmy Bradley and wife Debbie of Henderson, TX; sisters: Nelda Whitley of Brazoria, TX, Phyllis Sones of Mineola, TX, Margie Walker and husband Jim Billy of Swan, TX; brother–in-law:  David Hightower and wife Cheryl of Odessa; sister-in-law:  Sandra Owens of Odessa; two grandchildren:  Donnie and McKayla and son Zachary; many nieces and nephews – all her “favorites”, and many great nieces and nephews. 

Her parents, two brothers, one sister, and an infant daughter:  Fonda Elaine, precede her in death. 

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm on Friday, April 1, 2011 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Brother Wayne Shelton.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.
