Kenneth McKenzie III

Kenneth McKenzie III, age 62, passed from this life on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at his Odessa home.  He was born in Odessa on August 25, 1948 to Kenneth McKenzie II and Hazel (Hoff) McKenzie.  He was a US Marines veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the VFW.  He worked as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service.  He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord.

Kenneth loved life.  Toward the end of his life, his grandchildren were his pride and joy.

He is survived by his son:  Wendall McKenzie and wife Heather of Odessa; sister:  Nancy Davis of Fort Worth; and four grandchildren:  Kodie Caswell and Carley, Baylie, and Ian McKenzie.

His brother:  Morris “Mac” McKenzie and sister:  Rona Dell Maxwell, precede him in death.

Funeral services with military honors will be 10:00 am Monday, April 4, 2011 at Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa, officiated by Pastor Johnny Thomason.  Interment will follow at 2:00 pm in Rankin at Rankin Cemetery.  Russell McKenzie, Michael McKenzie, Kenneth Wayne McKenzie, Jr., Kodie Caswell, Jeremy McCarroll, and Seven Tomlinson will serve as pallbearers.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

 

Betty Jane Franklin

Betty Jane Franklin, age 72, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at her residence in Odessa. She was born in Jones County, TX on June 14, 1938. She was a retired telephone operator for AT&T, having served for over 30 years.

Betty loved nature and enjoyed gardening and bird watching.  She volunteered at the Guadalupe Park Service.

She is survived by her son, Dale Franklin, Jr. and wife Angelique of Odessa.

Her parents:  Washington Clayton McCown and Effie Mae (Reeves) McCown; her husband:  James Dale Franklin; and one sister, precede her in death.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at Westside Apostolic Church in Odessa, officiated by Rev. Allen Harris.   Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Allen Dale Spivey

Allen Dale Spivey, age 45, of Monahans, tragically passed away on Friday, April 1, 2011 in Odessa.   He was born in Pecos, TX on October 29, 1965 to Rufus and Judith Spivey.  He was employed with Auto Drill.   

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his mother:  Judy Lacy of Altus, OK; son:  Tobey Spivey of Monahans; daughter:  Sara Spivey of Odessa; brother:  Robert Spivey of Pecos; and step-brother:  T.J. Huffman of Alamogordo, NM. 

His father precedes him in death. 

Memorial services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Bro. Dewey Blevins.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

You will be missed more than you know.  Thank you, Dad, for always being there for Tobey and me.  There won’t be a day that goes by that we will not think of you.  Rest in peace B.B.D. !!!

Shari Ann Thompson

Shari Ann Thompson, age 69, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Odessa Regional Medical Center.  She was born in Kansas City, MO on April 13, 1941 to the late Jesse Robert Lukens and Eileen Mildred (Camp) Lukens.  She was a homemaker, but also worked as a hairdresser and bar tender. 

She is survived by her sons:  Rickey Dean Vanderpool of Odessa, Leonard Joseph Haugenater of Lamesa, David Ross Haugenater of Tallahassee, Fla., and William Troy Kaiser of Kansas City, MO; one daughter:  Aletta Jolene Wagner of Odessa; sister:  Andrea Marie Cloyd of Midland; brother:  Michael Robert Haugenater of Baytown; three grandchildren:  Timothy Wayne Lee, Nathan Dewayne Lee, and Jessica Jo Struck; and seven great-grandchildren.        

Funeral service will be at Acres West Funeral Chapel at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 5, 2011, Brother Roy Jones officiating.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Deborah Sommers 

Deborah Sommers, age 55, of Odessa, passed from this life on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Medical Center Hospital.  She was born in Brownwood, TX on March 15, 1956 to Ernest “Cotton” Ballard and Barbara (Gilbert) Ballard.  She was a nurse’s aide and cashier.  She worshiped at the Dream Center in Odessa.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband:  Scott Sommers of Odessa; her father:  Cotton Ballard of Brownwood; one son:  Guy Ballard of Milsap, TX; three brothers:  Larry Ballard of Weatherford, Steve Ballard of Winters, and Terry Ballard of Chico, TX; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 9:00 am Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa, officiated by Pastor Jimmy Dennis.  Graveside services will follow in Brownwood, TX at 4:00 pm at Greenleaf Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Ashli Ann Latimer

Ashli Ann Latimer, age 18, of Odessa, was called home unexpectedly on Friday, April 8, 2011 after being involved in a car accident in Carthage, TX.  She was born in Odessa and was a student working at McDonalds. 

Survivors are her parents:  Charles and Dina (Stunkard) Folley of Odessa; maternal grandfather:  Terry Stunkard of Odessa; and paternal grandmother:  Linda Arnold of Stephenville, TX. 

Memorial services will be at a later date.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Otis Lynn Henderson

Otis Lynn Henderson of Odessa, age 63, died on Friday, April 8, 2011 at Medical Center Hospital. He was born in Abilene, TX on October 15, 1947 to the late Johnny M. Henderson Sr. and Frances Lee (Rabh) Henderson. He married Emily Fyfe on July 15, 1991 in Odessa.  He worked in the oilfield. 

He is survived by his wife: Emily Henderson of Odessa; son: Greg Henderson of Godley, TX; daughter: Tina Henderson; four brothers: William Henderson, Jimmy Henderson, and Benny Henderson, all of Odessa, Johnny Henderson of Midland; and two grandchildren:  Blake and Hailee Henderson of Godley. 

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Brother Roy Jones.   Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Mary K. Terry

Kathy and Mom

Kathy was born on December 9, 1934 in Hot Springs, New Mexico to Virginia Katherine McDuff and James Wesley Taylor.  She went home to our Father on April 9, 2011. 

She worked in sales and advertising, and was known as the woman who could sell ice to the Eskimos.  Kathy spent many years working for the FOP and the Shriners in collecting for food baskets to be distributed during the holidays.  She loved being with her family and spent many a Saturday looking for great deals at garage sales.  She loved collecting antique glass and had many beautiful pieces.  She was a woman with a big heart and never turned away a kid in trouble.  Many kids over the years called her Mom.  She will be missed by all who were lucky enough to pass through her life. 

She was preceded in death by her Mother, Virginia McDuff and her Father, James Wesley Taylor.  She also lost too soon her Son, John David Turner and Daughter, Kathy Jo Massingale.   She is survived by her Son, Jim Chambless and wife Debbie, Daughter, Gina Aley and husband Sonny.  She is also survived by her Brother, John McDuff and Sister, Shirley Mitchell.  She leaves behind 10 Grandchildren and 14 Great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Tammy and Shirley from Star Hospice.  You both brought a smile to her face and laughter to her heart.  A memorial service will be held at 6414 Ft Worth Ave in Odessa on Tuesday, April 12th at 2 pm.   

Bobby Johnston McMasters

Bobby Johnston McMasters, age 68, of Odessa, passed from this life on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at Hospice House.  He was born in Odessa on November 17, 1942 to Joe Bailey Johnston and Blanche Willella (Wilson) Johnston.  He worked as an oilfield truck driver.  Bobby married Rose Dickerson in Mexico in 1976.

In addition to his wife, Rose McMasters, his children, grandchildren and sisters survive him.  He has four sons:  George Boon and wife Misty of Odessa, Bobby Joe McMasters of College Station, Lonnie Johnston of Broken Arrow, OK, and Glen Johnston of Rocky Comfort, MT; two daughters:  Lisa Foster and husband Tim and Lori Ross, all of Odessa; four sisters:  Ella Mae Clifton of Carlsbad, NM, Vera Maude Smith of Odessa, Gloria Sue Taylor of Melbourne, AR, and Johnnie Lynn Sumrow of Kemp; ten grandchildren:  Bryanna (Pa-Paw’s baby girl), Brandon, Austin, Jeremy, George Jr., Raymond, Amber, Kalie , Breanna, and Charla; and two great-granddaughters:  Alyssa and Layla.

His parents and five siblings:  Ellen Frances Perry, Joe Bailey Johnston, Jr., Margaret Eva Spain, Thomas Franklin Johnston, and Mildred Irene Johnston Mahler, precede him in death.

A family visitation at the funeral home will be from 6 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, April 11, 2011.  Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Jimmy Braswell.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

The family extends special thanks to the nursing staff at Buena Vida Nursing Home.

Perfecto Nieto

Perfecto Nieto, age 80, died Sunday, April 10, 2011 at his Odessa home.  He was born in Cuchillo, Chihuahua Mexico.  He was a farmer. 

He is survived by one son: Ramon Nieto of Ojinaga, MX; daughters: Ana Sanchez of Pecos, Bonnie Dominguez, Nena Garcia, and Imelda Samaniego, all of Odessa, Sabina Garcia of Dallas, and Claudia Martinez of Houston; two brothers:  Cruz Nieto of Cuchillo, MX and Saturnino Nieto of Ojinaga, MX; four sisters:  Micaela Magallanes of Nayarid, MX, Bertha Bailón of Freeport, Cecilia Ortega of Cuchillo, MX, and Josefina Morales of Odessa; 23 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be 10:00 am Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at San Miguel Archangel Episcopal Church, officiated by Father Bernardo Martinez.  Pallbearers will be Eddie Nieto, Isaac Rejino, Ever Martinez, Carlos Dominguez, Osmar Nieto, and Javier Samaniego.  Interment will follow at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.  

Keely Ann McFarland

Keely Ann McFarland, age 48, of Odessa, was called Home suddenly on Monday, April 11, 2011, at Medical Center Hospital.  She was born in Odessa to the Ruben "Rod" Rodriguez and Joyce (Waldon) Rodriguez.  She was an oilfield office manager. 

She is survived by her husband:  Kirk Louis McFarland of Odessa; mother:  Joyce Rodriguez of Odessa; daughter:  Leigh Ann McFarland of Odessa; son:  James Ryan McFarland of Odessa; and sister:  Judy Kay Kay of Andrews. 

Her father, Rod Rodriguez, precedes her in death.

Memorial services will be at Eisenhower Church of Christ at 10:00 AM Saturday, April 16, 2011, Bro. Allen Weakland officiating.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Lanna Ford Petrey

Lanna Ford Petrey, age 59, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at her Odessa residence.  She was born in Odessa on January 1, 1952 to Elbert Ford and Alvis (Ford) Pounds.  She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.

Mrs. Petrey enjoyed the company of family and friends.  She also enjoyed numerous crafts and photography.  She also loved to cook.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons:  Lonnie Petrey of Odessa and Rick Petrey of El Paso; two sisters:  Doris Been of Pampa and Glenda Burwell of Odessa; and six grandchildren.

Her parents:  Elbert and Alvis Ford; husband:  Samuel Petrey; and son:  Samuel Petrey Jr., precede her in death.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am Friday, April 15, 2011 at Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa, officiated by Chaplain Emmett Barnard.  Interment will follow at 4:00 pm at Hylton Cemetery in Blackwell, TX.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

 
Cheryl Sue Sullivan

Cheryl Sue Sullivan, age 63, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Medical Center Hospital.  She was born in Champagne, IL on August 5, 1947 to Ray and Dorothy Dunlap.  She married Tommy Sullivan in 1971.  She was a homemaker, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents:  Ray Dunlap and Dorothy Velma (Rogers) Dunlap; husband:  Thomas Gene Sullivan in 2002; and her sister:  Traci Higgins in 2007.

Survivors include a son:  Raymon Sullivan, and two grandsons:  Thomas and Austin Sullivan, all of Odessa; two brothers:  John Dunlap and Terry Dunlap and wife Irma of Odessa; two sisters:  Marna Shunk and husband Rich of Colorado and Dee Harms and husband Billy of Wisconsin; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8:00 pm Friday, April 15, 2011 at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Joseph Edward Mikac

Joseph Edward Mikac, age 67, of Odessa, Texas, died Thursday, April 14, 2011, at Regency Hospital Of Odessa.  He was born in West, TX on April 24, 1943 to the late Henry John Mikac and Irene Vera (Churchman) Mikac.  He was a roughneck. 

He is survived by two sisters:  Betty Orsak and JoAnne Elam, both of Sweetwater, TX, and two brothers:  Willie Mikac of Nocona, TX and Jerry Mikac of Birch Run, Mich.  

In addition to his parents, his wife, Ora Lee Mikac, precedes him in death. 

No services are scheduled at this time.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Patricia Duron Lightfoot

Patricia Duron Lightfoot, age 73, of Odessa, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2011, at Odessa Regional Medical Center.  She was born in Wink, TX on April 27, 1937 to Chester and Jesse King.  She was employed by Odessa Regional Medical Center as a data entry clerk for 25 years.  She was a member of Vine Baptist Church. 

She is survived by her father:  Chester King of Fort Stockton; three sons:  Randy Lightfoot and Jeff Lightfoot, both of Odessa, and Keith Lightfoot of Iraan; one brother:  Garland King of Fort Stockton; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  

Her mother:  Jesse Lee King; husband:  Kenneth Lightfoot; and brother:  Leo King, precede her in death.      

Funeral services will be at Acres West Funeral Chapel at 10:00 AM Monday, April 18, 2011, officiated by Pastor Jeff Cleere.  Interment will follow at Marathon Cemetery in Marathon, Texas at 3:00 pm. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel of Odessa. 

Roy Jim Hunton

Roy Hunton was born on July 22, 1952 and went to meet God on April 14, 2011. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Helen Jo Hunton and brother, Jack Hunton.

Roy grew up in Clovis, New Mexico where he graduated from Clovis High School, earned a Bachelor of Education Degree from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico and a Masters Degree in Education from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas.

Growing up, Roy learned carpentry from his father and personally built the family’s cabin in the mountains south of Taos, New Mexico during summer vacations. He turned his love of carpentry into a lifelong passion by teaching the building trade’s class for the E.C.I.S.D., also designing and building not only his home but several other homes for friends. Roy retired from the E.C.I.S.D. after 25 years of service including coaching, teaching history and building trade’s classes.     

Roy loved his animals, all outdoor activities and working out. Running, swimming, scuba diving and snow skiing were some of the activities he enjoyed. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and Kiwanis International.

Roy is survived by wife Kelli; brother Joe Hunton and family of Albuquerque, N.M.; brother Leroy Hunton and family of Albuquerque, N.M.; and sister Johnna Bishop and family of Virginia.

The family wants everyone to know that Roy was a beloved son, brother and husband. They request in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Humane Society of Odessa or the donor’s favorite charity.

Graveside services will be privately held in Clovis, New Mexico at Lawn Haven Cemetery.   Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Frieda Allen Williams

Frieda Allen Williams, age 61, passed from this life on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at her Odessa residence.  She was born in Atoka, OK on March 20, 1950 to John A. Allen and Noma Katherene (Wash) Allen.  Her church affiliation was Assembly of God.  She was a homemaker, beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother.

Frieda enjoyed reading the Bible.  She spent her free time eating out, visiting with friends and family on the phone, or playing mahjong.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 45 years:  Joe Williams; two sons:  Joe Williams, Jr. and wife Kelli and Jimmy Allen, Jr.; daughter:  Kim Norton and husband Jim; brother:  Jimmy Allen, Sr.; sister:  Judy Thomas; and four grandchildren:  Sarah, Lucas, Marlee, and Keaton, all of Odessa.

Her parents and four brothers:  Kenneth, John, Danny, and Terry, precede her in death.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Abraham Langston.  Interment will follow at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.
