Mario Rodriguez

Mario Rodriguez, age 56, of Odessa, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2011, at Hospice House.  He was born May 25, 1955 in Lequeitio, Coahuila, Mexico to Manuel Rodriguez and Aurelia Barrios.  He graduated high school in Plainview, TX and was employed as a welder.

Mario followed all the latest trends, going through the phases from being a hippie to wearing an afro.  He was never a shy person and did not hesitate to “tell it like it is”.  Mario had a wide variety of interests.  He loved roosters, and motorcycles and enjoyed fishing and playing Bingo.  He was a very proud man.

He is survived by his wife Lydia Rodriguez of Odessa; mother:  Aurelia Barrios of Plainview; two daughters:  Maryvell Cortez and husband Albert and Racheal Lara and husband Joe, all of Odessa; four sons:  Johnny Rodriguez and wife Gloria, Mario Rodriguez, Jr., Manuel Rodriguez and wife Trisha, and Tony Rodriguez, all of Odessa; three sisters:  Rosa Savedra of Coahuila, MX, and Elvira Euresti and Rosario Puentes, both of Mc Farland, Calif.; three brothers:  Vidal Vasquez of Coahuila, MX, Jaime Rodriguez of Plainview, and Tony Flores of Odessa; and eight grandchildren.  

Rosary will be said at Acres West Funeral Chapel’s 24 Hour Chapel at 7:30 pm Tuesday, October 11, 2011.  Funeral mass will be at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church at 10:00 am Wednesday, October 12, 2011, Father Arturo Pestin officiating.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

 
Olivia Lyn Brightman

Olivia Lyn Brightman, age 21, of Odessa, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2011.  She was born in Odessa on September 8, 1990.  Olivia was a free spirited young lady with a golden heart.  She loved everyone and would never hurt anyone.  Olivia was very musically inclined.  She played the guitar, harmonica, bongo drums, keyboard and autoharp.  She was her mother’s “Earth Angel” and they had worked hard together to record that song to post on YouTube.

Olivia was preceded in death by her father:  William Wayne Brightman.

She is survived by her mother and step-father:  Carrie and Jose Munoz of Odessa; maternal grandmother:  Mary Ruth Miller of Belton; three brothers:  Timothy Wayne Brightman and wife Jessica of Houston, Paul Wesley Brightman and wife Stephanie of Odessa, and John Walter Brightman of Odessa; sister:  Rebecca Lynn Walz and husband Walker of Casa Grande, AZ; uncle:  Perry Brightman of Odessa; and three nephews:  Walker Wayne Brightman, Carter Landon Brightman, and Korben Rush Brightman.

Memorial services will be privately held at a later date. Friends will have a candlelight service Friday, October 14, 2011 from 8 to 11:00 pm at Sherwood Park.   Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Adelina Vasquez Martinez

Adelina Vasquez Martinez, age 79, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Hospice House in Odessa. She was born May 13, 1932 in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico to Crescencio Vasquez Garcia and Margarita Samaniego (Kellogg) Garcia. She worked as a housekeeper and a cook.

Survivors include her husband: Isidro Martinez of Odessa; son: Mario Valenzuela Vasquez of Kellen, TX; brothers: Carlos Vasquez of Donna, TX, Ramon Vasquez of Liberal KS, Santos Vasquez of Mesa, AZ, Delfin Vasquez, and Daniel Vasquez, both of Odessa; sister: Lilia Valenzuela of Odessa, and three grandchildren.

Rosary services will be held 7:00 pm on Wesdnesday, October 12, 2011 at Acres West 24 hour Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 13, 2011, at San Miguel Arcangel church located  at 907 N. Adams in Odessa.  Burial will be Friday, October 14, 2011 in Colinas del Eden in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

 

Arnulfo “Arnold” Vasquez

Arnulfo “Arnold” Vasquez, of Odessa, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 11, 2011on his 56th birthday.  He was born in Las Cruces, NM to Servando and Susanna Vasquez.  He worked at the Ector County Coliseum for 17 years.  He also enjoyed his time at Logan’s Roadhouse.

Arnold was an out-going person with a great sense of humor.  He enjoyed family functions and barbeques and always made everyone laugh.  He was a fan of football and NASCAR.

Those left to cherish his memory are his father:  Servando Vasquez of Odessa; two daughters:  Christine Vasquez of Odessa and Casey Barfield of Overland Park, KS; two sons:  Austen Vasquez of Midland and Tyler Overturf of Odessa; three brothers:  Servando Vasquez, Jr. of Odessa and Ruben Vasquez and Michael Vasquez, both of El Paso, TX; five sisters:  Nana Moreno, Linda Lujan, Bache Barton, Terrie Maxwell and Prissie White, all of Odessa; four grandchildren:  Jadie Vasquez, Taylor Barfield, Mason Macias, and Kolbie Overturf; and twenty-four nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, October 14, 2011 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Chaplain Brian Serrano.  Interment will follow at the Odessa Garden of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, an account has been set up for his benefit at Community National Bank.

Jimmy Carl “Jimbo” Hurst

Jimmy Carl “Jimbo” Hurst, age 59, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.  He was born May 9, 1952 in Odessa.  He worked in the oil field for over 40 years at Dixie Electric, Weatherford International, Knight Oil Tool, and Level II Inspector for Del’s Inspection Service Company.  He was a loving father, husband, co-worker, and good friend to all and will be missed.

He is survived by his children:  Misty D. Hurst of Kent, WA, Christina L. Vega of Dallas, Brandi M. Hurst and husband LRae Westerfield of Calvert City, KY, Shawn C. Hurst and wife Brandi of Amarillo, Willie C. Hurst of Odessa, Cindy L. Hurst Speed and husband Kevin of Ft. Meade, MD, Earl “Dino” Hurst of Odessa, 14 grandchildren; ex-wives:  Gayla Tilley of Calvert City, KY, and Rose Boshell of Odessa; mother-in-law:  Earline Boshell; two sisters:  Betty Jo Brown of Arkansas and Shirley Richardson of Odessa.

He was preceded in death by his parents:  Luther and Nava Dean Hurst.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Westwood Baptist Church, 1601 W. University, Odessa, TX with Dr. Weeks Dubose officiating.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory. 

Vester Ozell Hallmark

Vester Ozell Hallmark, age 71, of Odessa, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at Medical Center Hospital.  He was born in Ashdown, Arkansas on February 22, 1940 to the late James Andrew Hallmark and Mary Catherine Baker.  He married Rebecca Harrison in Odessa on March 2, 2000.  They attended Westwood Baptist Church.  Vester worked as a truck driver and a carpenter and was a jack of all trades.  He was a hard worker; a fixer-upper who could be counted on make things work.  He enjoyed fishing in his spare time.

He is survived by his wife Rebecca Hallmark of Odessa; four daughters:  Donna Fay Hallmark and Mary Catherine Hallmark, both of Odessa, Tommie Martin of Centennial, Colo., and Patricia Nicholson of Tampa, Fla.; two sons:  Vester Hallmark, Jr. and Jackie Dean Hallmark, both of Odessa; two sisters:  Mary Jan Sines of Tampa, Fla. And Allie Fisher of De Kalb; one brother:  James Hallmark of Ashdown, Ark.; sixteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.    

His parents, three brothers, and three sisters precede him in death.

Funeral services will be at Acres West Funeral Chapel at 5:00 PM Saturday, October 15, 2011, Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd, Odessa, Texas. 

Alfonso Vasquez Ramirez

Alfonso Vasquez Ramirez, age 67, of Odessa, Texas, died Thursday, October 13, 2011, at Odessa Regional Medical Center.  He was born in Pecos on April 16, 1944 to the late Felix Ramirez and Dominga (Natividad) Ramirez.  He was a construction worker and built metal buildings.  He was Catholic.

He is survived by his four daughters:  Toni Ramirez and Mary Ramirez of Odessa, Corina Davila of Seagraves, and Stephanie Ramirez of Big Spring; two sons:  Alfonso Ramirez, Jr. of Odessa and Jesse Ramirez of Fort Collins, Colo.; two sisters:  Prude Orozco and Narcisa Primera, both of Odessa; seven brothers:  Joe Ramirez of Odessa, Pedro Ramirez of San Angelo, and Ernest Ramirez, Zeke Ramirez, Felix Ramirez, Frank Ramirez, and Joe Ramirez, all of Odessa; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.   

In addition to his parents, his son:  Raul Ramirez and his brother:  Carmen Ramirez, precede him in death.

Rosary will be said Sunday evening at 7:30 pm at Acres West's 24 Hour Chapel. Funeral mass will be at St Joseph Catholic Church at 2:00 pm Monday, October 17, 2011, Fr. Patrick Akpanobong officiating.  Interment will be at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.  

Joel Luna Ojeda

Joel Luna Ojeda, age 43, of Odessa, Texas, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011 in Denver, Colorado. He was born on November 29, 1967 in Juarez, MX.

He is survived by his wife: Diana Mata of Odessa;  father: Salvador Ojeda of Odessa; three sons: Jeremy Mata of El Paso, Michael Wayne Mata of Mankato, MN, and Emilio Mata of Odessa; six sisters: Sara Ojeda of Denver, CO, Judy Ojeda, Maria Ojeda, Sara "Little Sara" Flores, Paloma Rinehart, and  Della Ojeda all of Odessa; five brothers: Salvador Ojeda, Jr. of Dallas, Omar Ojeda, Oscar Ojeda, Luie Ojeda  and Salvador "Little Sal" Ojeda, all of Odessa; and five grandchildren .     

Rosary will be said Sunday evening at 7:30 pm at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Funeral services will be at Acres West Funeral Chapel at 2:00 PM Monday, October 17, 2011, Fr. Joe Uecker officiating.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Jose Francisco Palomino III, “Baby J”

Jose Francisco Palomino III, “Baby J”, was born in Odessa on January 27, 2011 to Jose Francisco Palomino, Jr. and Chelsea Hawthorne.  He was an angel borrowed for 8 months before he returned to Jesus’s arms on Friday, October 14, 2011. 

In addition to his loving parents, Baby J also leaves behind a large devoted family.  His paternal grandparents:  Jose and Zulema Palomino of Odessa; maternal grandparents:  Kellie Hopper and Clarence Scott of Roswell, NM; maternal great-grandparents:  Teofilo and Isabel Madrid of Visalia, CA and Joe and Basilia Tarin of Odessa; maternal great-grandmother:  Zelda Moore of Roswell, NM; two sisters:  Emylie Palomino and Keenya Tarin, both of Odessa; three aunts:  Amy Palomino, AnaLisa Palomino and Ashlee Hawthorne, all of Odessa; one uncle:  Robert Trejo of Odessa; great-aunt:  Sherry White of Odessa; and numerous other family members are left to cherish his memory.

Rosary will be said 7:00 pm Monday, October 17, 2011 at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Acres West, officiated by Fr. Bernardito Getigan.  Interment will follow at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Hilario G. Rivera

Hilario G. Rivera, age 90, entered the Heavenly gates on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at his home in Marfa.  He was born in Shafter, Texas on November 3, 1920 to the late Natividad and Senaida (Guerrero) Rivera.  He served in the US Army Air Force during World War II, honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.  He worked at the Big Bend Feed Store and at Colomo Grocery.  He was a Catholic and served as a communion minister for over 20 years.  He also assisted in setting up for services and keeping the grounds.

Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife:  Eloisa Rivera of Marfa, three sons:  Eddie Rivera of Kermit, Larry Rivera of Marfa, and Joe Rivera and wife Eleanore of Kermit; three daughters:  Inez Chavez of Monahans and Julie Balderrama and husband Raul and Delia Pando and husband Alfredo, all of Kermit; three brothers:  Fred Rivera of Odessa, Robert Rivera of Austin, and Armando Rivera of El Paso; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Hilario is reunited in Heaven with one son:  Patricio Rivera; a brother:  Ernesto Rivera; and two sisters:  Catalina Magallanez and Enriqueta Alvarez.

Rosary will be said 10:00 am Thursday, October 20, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marfa.  Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am, officiated by Father Rolando Fonceca.  Interment with military honors will be at Merced Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel of Odessa. 

Fred Allan Gariepy

Fred Allan Gariepy, age 70, of Odessa, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2011 at Medical Center Hospital.  He was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on September 30, 1941 to Clifford and Alice (Boyken) Gariepy.  He was a truck driver.

Fred was a Christian man who loved his Lord.  He was an old time trucker, an honest hardworking man.  He was a good hearted man and an all around good person.

He is survived by his daughter:  Cindy Lee Peirsall of Indianapolis, IN; one son:  Mark Allen Garipy of Henderson, TX; his uncles:  Allan Boyken of Evansville, IN; two grandsons:  Shea Sey Piersall and Seth Lee Piersall of Indianapolis, IN; great-granddaughter:  Sadie Lynn Piersall of Indianapolis, IN; brothers:  Robert C. Gariepy and William Cornett, both of Evansville, IN; his beloved dog:  “Buddy”; and many good friends, including:  Carmen Acosta, Jimmy Beauchamp, and “Butterfly” Coe.

In addition to his parents, his good friend, Jamie Wilson, precedes him in death.

Memorial services will be 11:00 am Friday, October 21, 2011, at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Bro. Dewey Blevins. As per his wishes, Fred was cremated and his ashes were laid to rest in Evansville, IN at Alexander Funeral Home and Crematory along with his mother and uncles, Allen and Larry Boyken.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.   

Daniel “Danny Buggzs” Martinez

Daniel “Danny Buggzs” Martinez, age 49, of Odessa, passed from this life on Monday, October 17, 2011 at Medical Center Hospital.  He was born in Floydada, Texas on May 11, 1962 to Domingo and Maria (Johnston) Martinez.  Daniel married Carolyn J. Ramirez in Abilene on September 8, 1979. They attended Crossroads Fellowship Church.   He worked for Desert Energy Equipment in shipping and receiving. 

Daniel was an outdoorsman, who enjoyed camping and traveling. He had an outdoor pond with fish that he loved.  He barbequed every Sunday.  He and Carolyn would build things together and he got a lot of satisfaction out of his many projects.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife:  Carolyn Martinez of Odessa; mother:  Maria Olga Martinez of Lancaster; son:  Daniel Martinez II; three daughters:  Letecia Martinez, Tamara Martinez, and Amber Martinez, all of Odessa; three brothers:  Carlos Martinez of Lawton, OK, David Martinez and wife Asela of Carnegie, OK, and Benjamin Martinez and wife Amy of Cedar Hills; four sisters:  Gloria Flores of San Antonio, Irma Borrego and husband Danny of Abilene, Irene Lopez and husband Tony of Lancaster, and JoAnn Garner and husband Mike of Bowie; three grandchildren:  Adan McBride, Aniaha McBride and Daelon Mancha, all of Odessa.

His father:  Domingo Martinez and sister:  Mary Ann Martinez, precede him in death.

Funeral services are set for 10:00 am Friday, October 21, 2011 at Crossroads Fellowship Chapel, officiated by Pastor David Newton. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Miyah Love Lee Quilimaco Ritter

Miyah Love Lee Quilimaco Ritter, an infant, was born at Odessa Regional Medical Center and flew directly to Jesus's arms on Tuesday, October 18, 2011. 

She is survived by her mother:  Kelly Beth Ritter of Odessa and grandfather:  John James Ritter of Odessa.

Funeral services will be 7:00 pm Friday, October 21, 2011 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Brother Roy Jones.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Jordan Ray Stout

Jordan Ray Stout returned to Jesus’ arms on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Medical Center Hospital.  He was born in Odessa on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 to Brian Wayne Stout and Sandra Nicole (Fuller) Stout. For fourteen months, he was an angel borrowed from Heaven.  

Those left to hold him in their hearts are his parents:  Brian Stout and Nicole “Co Co” Stout, both of Odessa; paternal grandparents:  Fred and Kathryn Stout of Houston; maternal grandparents:  Theresa Wright and Daniel Gray of Rankin; Mike and Angie Fuller of Eunice, NM, and Dewayne and Detra Savage of Odessa; maternal great-grandparents:  John Wright and Sandra Gray, both of McCamey; one brother:  Jadyn Stout of Odessa; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. 

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Monday, October 24, 2011 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Bro. Dewey Blevins.  Interment will follow at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Bonnell “Bonnie” Brown

Bonnell “Bonnie” Brown, age 84, of Midland, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Hospice House of Odessa.  She was born in Floydada, TX on March 24, 1927 to the late John Thomas Singleton and Tressie Zorene (Snodgrass) Singleton.  She married Lonnie Brown in Wichita Falls, Texas on July 6, 1984.  She had been a member of Ranchland Heights Baptist Church since 1997.   Bonnie was a homemaker, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She was known by Nanee, Nanee Poo Poo, Mother, Mama, and Me Mudder.

Those left to cherish her memory are three daughters:  Shirley Hart and husband Travis of Midland, Janice Jeanes and husband James of Perryville, AR, and Paula Summerlin of Canyon; ten grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren. 

Bonnie loved to visit with her grandchildren.  She did not take her orneriness with her – she left it with her daughters and granddaughters.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brown is preceded in death by her beloved husband:  Lonnie Wendle Brown and three infant sons:  Richard Allen, Ronald Wayne, and Wilbur Duane.

Family visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, October 21, 2011 at Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa.  Funeral services will be 10:00 am Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Ranchland Heights Baptist Church of Midland, officiated by Bro. Travis Hart.  Pallbearers will include Aaron Hughes, Tyler Pate, Cody Adamson, Skye Lee Adamson, Gatlin Williams, and Jamie Oliveraz, with Blaine Kerby as honorary pallbearer.  Interment will follow in Lubbock, TX at the City of Lubbock Cemetery at 3:30 pm.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bonnie’s name to Hospice House, 903 N. Sam Houston, Odessa, TX 79761, would be appreciated. 

Derek Thomas Barringer

Derek Thomas Barringer, age 27, of Andrews passed away in Andrews on Sunday, October 23, 2011.  He was born in Llano, Texas on January 12, 1984.  He worked as a floor hand and derrick hand in the oil drilling industry.  He was a member of Terrace Hills Baptist Church.

Derek was a laid back, fun-loving person, who could always keep everyone laughing.  He was the life of the party and had lots of friends.  He enjoyed road trips and fishing and was a big Texas Longhorns and Cowboys fan.  His kids were his pride and joy and he was crazy about them.

Derek is survived by his mother and step-father:  Debra and Chuck Hayes of Odessa; father:  Larry “Woody” Harrelson of Odessa; one daughter:  Taylor Grace Barringer of Denton, NC and Taylor’s mother:  Laura Brookshire of Odessa; one son:  Dax Skot Barringer and Dax’s mother:  Randa Mathis, both of Odessa; grandfather and step-grandmother:  Walter and Joyce Stice of Midlothian; grandmother and step-grandfather:  John and Linda Penner of Valley View; two brothers:  Jason Barringer of Silver Valley, NC and step brother:  Henry John Hayes of Winston Salem, NC; step-sister:  Nicole Melinda Hayes of Winston Salem, NC; and a favorite uncle:  Gary Harrelson of Odessa.

Family visitation at Acres West Funeral Chapel will be on Thursday, October 27, 2011 from 6:30 to 9:00 pm.  Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am, Friday October 28, 2011 at Terrace Hills Baptist Church, officiated by Scottie Stice and Donnie Reeves.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.
