Lue Dell Price

Lue Dell Price, 75, of Odessa, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. She was born in Three Rivers, Texas on October 28, 1936 to Peter and Bertha Hicks.  She was a housewife and homemaker.

Lue Dell was a very sweet, kind, loving, amazing and simple woman.  She never demanded or asked for anything, yet deserved all that was given to her.  Her coffee dates were extremely enjoyable to her.  If you missed your coffee date with her, she would call to see where you were. Her vegetable garden kept her days busy, but most important was her family.  They were her pride and joy, the center of her life.  Lue Dell always told her neighbors, “I am so proud of my kids.”  And Lewis, her son, she thought the world of. She will be dearly missed.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her son: Lewis & Mary Cleveland of Odessa; daughter: Lorinda & Wendell New of Odessa; brothers: Herman & Martha Hicks of Sherman, Texas, and Bill Hicks of Odessa; five grandchildren: Ona, Rhonda, Angela, Kevin and Jessica;and eight great-grandchildren.

Lue Dell is preceded in death by her parents: Peter Madden Hicks and Bertha Ann Starnes Hicks; three brothers: T.B. Hicks, L.D. Hicks and Lloyd Hicks; and two sisters: Millie Keene and Rita Smith.

The family will receive friends at Acres West Funeral Chapel on Sunday evening 7:00 – 8:00 pm March 25, 2012. Funeral services will be at Acres West Funeral Chapel at 10:00 am, Monday, March 26, 2012, officiated by Brother Clydell Chapman. Interment will follow at 3:00 pm at Belleview Cemetery in Rotan, Texas. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Cristina Valenzuela de Hernandez

Cristina Valenzuela de Hernandez, age 81, of Odessa, passed away on Saturday, March 24, 2012. She was born October 27, 1930 in Palomas No: 1 Ojianga, Mexico. She was a homemaker and member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her husband: Tomas Hernandez of Odessa; son: Oscar & Juana Hernandez of Odessa; daughters: Antonia Hernandez, Ramona & Jesus Garcia, and Olga & Jose Luis Deras, all of Odessa; sister: Consepcion Gardea of Kermit; grandchildren: Noe, Aldo, Adrian, Ivan, Pamela, Lupe, Enrique, Crystal, Thomas, Kimberly;  and nine great grandchildren. 

Cristina is preceded in death by her parents: Dario & Ramona Valenzuela; grandparents: Doroteo & Susana Valenzuela, Ignacio & Juana Ruiz; brothers: Pedro Valenzuela, Mariano Valenzuela, Jose Valenzuela, and Cruz Valenzuela; sisters: Gabina Valenzuela and Elva Valenzuela; and grandson: Anibal Hernandez. 

Funeral mass is at 11:00am Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, officiated by Father Arturo Pestin.  Interment will follow at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Phyllis Bennett Pearson

Phyllis Bennett Pearson, age 86, of Odessa, passed from this life on Monday, March 26, 2012 at Hospice House of Odessa.  She was born in Wadsworth, Ohio on December 23, 1925 to the late Roy and Ester (Simon) Wheeler.  She was a homemaker and had retired from working as a sales clerk for Mildred’s Gifts.

She is survived by her son:  David Bennett of Odessa; two daughters:  Barbara Howell of Gresham, Oregon and Beth Ann Bennett of Fort Worth; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Russell Bennett, and her second husband, Thomas Pearson.

Graveside services will be 10:00 am Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Sunset Memorial Gardens, officiated by Rev. Brad Bennett of St. Luke Methodist Church.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Teodolo Orozco Muñiz

Teodolo Orozco Muñiz, age 76, of Odessa, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Deerings Nursing Home in Odessa.  He was born in Chihuahua, Mexico on April 10, 1935 to the late Ignacio Muñiz Barrera and Catalina Orozco Muñiz.  He grew up on a small ranch in Chihuahua and then farmed when he grew up.  He also worked as a floor hand for Basic Energy. 

Teodolo worked hard and taught his children his work ethic.  He was a good man who loved his children and grandchildren very much.

He is survived by four sons:  Martin Muñiz and wife Eva and Ramon Muñiz and wife Carmen, all of Odessa, Alfonzo Muniz and wife Carmen and Gerardo Muñiz and wife Anavel, all of Chihuahua, MX; four sisters:  Eusevia Muñiz and husband Miguel of El Paso, Rafaela Muñiz of Denver, Colo., Anita Reyes and husband Sigala of El Paso, and Mercedez Muñiz of Chihuahua, MX; three brothers:  Cruz Muñiz and wife Graciela of Odessa, Ignacio Muñiz and wife Vickie of El Paso, and Jose Muñiz and wife Consuelo of Denton; and twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.      

Funeral services will be at Acres West Funeral Chapel at 1:00 PM Saturday, March 31, 2012.  Interment will follow at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Yvonne Tracy Dunaway

Yvonne Tracy Dunaway, age 55, passed from this life on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at her Odessa residence.  Yvonne had fought a long and courageous eight year battle with various medical issues.  She did not lose heart with God by her side.  Now she has finished her race and has gone to her eternal rest with her loving Father. 

Yvonne was born in Midland on November 14, 1956 to Arlis and Jewellene (Wroten) McKenzie.  She married the love of her life, Doyle Dunaway, on August 31, 1984 at Belmont Baptist Church in Odessa.  She was a very active person who played softball and enjoyed bird and deer hunting and fishing.  She was a very outgoing person who never had an enemy.  Until her illness precipitated her retirement in 2004, she worked as an electrician’s helper for ECISD.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of over 27 years:  Doyle Dunaway of Odessa; her mother:  Jewellene McKenzie of Odessa; daughter:  Shonna Slaughter and husband Donnie of Houston; brother:  Jerry McKenzie and wife Dena of Carterville, IL; and one grandson:  Tobias Slaughter.

Graveside services will be 2:00 pm at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, officiated by Pastor John McLemore.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Norma Jean Alling

Norma Jean Alling, age 54, of Odessa passed from this life on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Medical Center Hospital.  She was born in Alamogordo, NM on June 27, 1957 to Joseph Burton Holzer and Mary Francis (Lasley) Holzer.  She studied accounting and business and also worked in housekeeping.  Norma Jean married Douglas Alling in Cloudcroft, NM on December 19, 2001.

Norma Jean was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend who was generous and thoughtful.  She always remembered special dates and never missed a loved one’s anniversary or birthday.  If she was your friend, she was the best friend you could have.  She could play it cool and was known to bet her sunglasses over a game of pool. 

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her husband:  Douglas Alling of Odessa; parents:  Joseph and Mary Holzer of Lovington, NM; daughter:  Frances Wickliffe of Kansas City, MO; step sons:  Brian Alling, Clay Alling, Blake Alling, and Dean Alling; step daughters:  Heather Alling, Mandy Alling, and Cami Alling; foster children:  Phillip Compary of Corpus Christi and Cristy Compary of Denver, CO; brother:  Newman Coburn and wife Annette of Odessa; three sisters:  Cynthia Sanchez and husband Earnest Sanchez, Jr. of Lovington, Helen Lucero and husband Tony Fillman of Odessa, and Anna Holzer of Lovington; thirteen grandchildren; and cousins:  Jr. and Diana Tindol; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Memorial services to honor her memory will be 11:00 am Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Brian Serrano.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Marcia Elaine Drummond 

Marcia Elaine Drummond, age 63, passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Hospice House of Odessa.  She was born in Hamilton, Missouri on April 9, 1948 to the late Robert and Mildred (Williams) Drummond.  She worked as a waitress, but her most important job was homemaker, mother and grandmother.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sisters:  Donna Bell and husband Steve and Sharon Buenger and husband Forest, all of Odessa; six grandchildren:  Crystal Hunter of Odessa, Melody Compton of Little Rock, AR, Cora Hernandez of Odessa, Jewell Weesner of Little Rock, Robert “Bubba” Weesner of Azle, and Joey Hernandez of Odessa; seventeen great-grandchildren; her adopted father:  Cecil Cox of Odessa; and daughter-in-law:  Tabitha Weesner of Azle.

In addition to her parents, Marcia is preceded in death by her son:  Bobby Weesner; daughters:  Marcia Weesner and Cindy Weesner; brother:  Robert Eugene Drummond; sister:  Annette Drummond; and one great-grandson:  Brandon Hunter.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Acres West Funeral Chapel from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm.  Memorial services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Odessa Tabernacle, 2406 Oakwood Dr. Odessa, officiated by Pastor Doug Hergot.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Blas Granado, Jr.

Blas Granado, Jr., 46, of Odessa, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, Texas.  He was born in Odessa on December 27, 1965 to Blas & Ofelia Granado, Sr.  He worked in the oilfield as a roustabout and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Blas was a good son, good brother and loving person.  He always remembered all his family’s birthdays better than anyone else.  His greatest joy was helping people and he was always surrounded by many friends who enjoyed his joking around.  Basketball, football, camping, fishing, dancing and going to concerts with all kinds of music as well as Cursillo / Catholic retreats fulfilled his days.  But his best love of all was food.  Blas loved to eat.

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his parents: Blas & Ofelia Granado Sr. of Odessa; son & daughter: Christopher Jacob Granado and Syrena Yasmine Granado both of Willcox, AZ; brothers: Vincent & wife Elodia Granado, Jose Luis & wife Olga Granado, and Cesar & wife Patricia Granado, all of Odessa; sisters: Vilma & husband Rafael Figueroa of Willcox, AZ and Marisol & husband Elizandro Rodriguez of Odessa.

Rosary is at 7:30 pm, Sunday, April 8, 2012 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am, Monday, April 9, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, officiated by Father Serafin Avenido. Interment will follow at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

 

Rhonda Darlene Elmore

Rhonda Darlene Elmore, 59, of Odessa, passed from this life on April 7, 2012. She was born August 19, 1952 to the late Wayne and Ellen (Rice) Elmore.

Rhonda was always loving and fun.  She enjoyed her toys, especially teddy bears.

Those left to cherish her memory are her brothers: Greg S. Elmore of Odessa and Monty Elmore of Midland.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 am, April 11, 2012 at Sunset Memorial Gardens and officiated by Chaplain Clay Porter.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Kenneth Ray Turner

Kenneth Ray Turner, age 62, of Odessa, died Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Hospice House.  He was born in Odessa on August 20, 1949 to Calvin Eugene Turner and Loyese (York) Turner.  He was a delivery driver for Pizza Hut.

He is survived by his daughter:  Rebecca “Becky” Burwell of Odessa; two sisters:  Sammie Molder and Sheila Kinnaman, both of Odessa; and one grandchild.

Memorial services will be held at later date.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Jimmy Glenn "Bo" Wright

Jimmy Glenn “Bo” Wright, age 65, of Odessa, passed away on April 10, 2012, at his residence. 

He was born September 8, 1946 in Moran, Texas to J. D. Wright and Pauline (Bailey) Wright.  He married Vikkie Campbell in Odessa on April 3, 2010.  Mr. Wright was employed in the oilfield as a construction worker.

He is survived by his wife: Vikki Wright of Odessa; sons: Michael Smith of Rankin, Jesse Wright of San Angelo, and Jeffrey Smith of Odessa; mother: Pauline Wright of Odessa; brothers: Jerry Wright, Rodney Wright, and Larry Wright, all of Odessa; sisters: Patsy Craig of Odessa and Judy Gilliam of Burleson; eight grandchildren: Joshua, Ian, Ryleigh, Megan, Madosyn, Andrew, Martin and Kaitlin; and one great granddaughter.

Memorial services will be 1:00 pm Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Chapel Hill Baptist Church.

Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Gwendolyn Ann Oats

Gwendolyn Ann Oats, of Odessa, departed this life on April 12, 2012 at the age of 80 years.  She was born September 22, 1931 in Jacksboro, TX to Grady and Lucyle Frazier.  Gwendolyn married W.S. “Red” Oats on April 10, 1950 in Hobbs, NM.  Gwendolyn was first and foremost, a strong Christian woman.  She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. 

Gwendolyn had the most giving spirit, a love for family, a strong faith and was unselfish with her time; always putting others’ needs before her own.  The values she taught her children and grandchildren will be her legacy.  Gwendolyn had a love of life that was contagious to all those that surrounded her.  Her life was characterized by her unwavering love and faithful devotion to God and family.  Gwendolyn was an avid reader and loved to learn new things every day.

Those left to cherish her memory are one daughter:  Sharon Ann Bennett of Odessa; one grandson:  Ryan Alan Bennett and wife Courtney Bennett of Denton; and two great-grandchildren:  Cody and Brooke Bennett of Burleson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her eldest grandson:  Rex Aaron Bennett of Olney. 

Visitation will be at Acres West Funeral Chapel on Sunday, April 15th from 1:00 to 9:00 pm.  Funeral Services will be at 12:00 noon on Monday, April 16, 2012 at Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa, officiated by Pastor Terry Tamplen.  Graveside services will follow at 3:00 pm at O’Donnell Memorial Cemetery in O’Donnell, TX, officiated by Phyllis Anderson.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel

Robert Lopez Murillo, Sr.

Robert Lopez Murillo, Sr. age 44, passed from this life on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at his Odessa residence.  He was born in Odessa on September 21, 1967 to Santos (Lopez) Murillo and the late Andres R. Murillo.  He worked as a truck driver.

Robert enjoyed Tejano music and NASCAR racing. 

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his children:  Robert Murillo, Jr. and Erika Murillo of Odessa; his mother:  Santos Murillo of Odessa; grandmother:  Francis Lopez of Hobbs; two brothers:  Andres Murillo Jr. and wife Elvira and Gilbert Murillo and wife Mary Alice, all of Odessa; and three sisters:  Consuelo “Connie” Puentes of Houston, and Pauline Baca and husband Hector, and Peggy Murillo, all of Odessa; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

His father, Andres Murillo Sr., and grandfather, Paul C. Lopez, preceded him in death.

A Prayer Service will be held 7:00 pm Monday, April 16, 2012 at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Funeral services will be 10:00 am Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Mickey Muñoz.  Interment will follow at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Hector Baca Jr., Eric Baca, Andy Murillo III, Johnny Puentes, Michael Murillo, Annabelle Fowler, and Abel Fino.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Barbara Nell (Kinsey) Gilstrap

Barbara Nell (Kinsey) Gilstrap, age 75, won her battle against cancer on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at her Odessa residence.  She was born in Merkel, TX on March 31, 1937 to the late Thurmon R. Kinsey and Bessie Nell (Davis) Kinsey.  She married Flonoia “Gil” Gilstrap on March 3, 1976 in Monahans, TX.  She was retired from working as a CNA and was also an Avon sales representative for ten years. 

Barbara enjoyed fishing and arts and crafts, and loved her dogs.  She was a people person through and through and loved nothing more than fellowship with family and friends.  Barbara was outgoing and colorful in her personality and her tastes – her favorite colors were hot pink and red. 

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband:  Flonoia "Gil" Gilstrap of Odessa; daughter:  Tana Samford and husband Garry of Bastrop; son:  Joe Biles of Elk City, OK; sister:  Teena Nations and husband Bill of Norman, OK; ten grandchildren:  Barby Shahan, Sherrie Biles, William Biles, John Biles, JoLynn Biles, Chance Endsley, Rilee Hinson, Amanda Samford, Brian Samford, and Cindy Congleton; twenty great-grandchildren:  Nikki Shahan, Tasha Shahan, Todd Henson, Robert Hinchliffe, Logan Biles, Baylee Endsley, Katie Endsley, Blake Hinson, Emma Darby, Dustin Samford, Tiffany Samford, Brianna Samford, Blake Congleton, Elizabeth Congleton, Sean Biles, Tiffany Sutton, Jacob Biles, Sterling Jorgenson, Orin Jorgenson and Miranda Jorgenson; and one niece Tara Jaramillo.

In addition to her parents, two sons:  Jimmy Biles and Todd Biles, preceded her in death.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.  Funeral services will be at Acres West Funeral Chapel at 10:00 AM Thursday, April 19, 2012, with Bro. Roy Galloway officiating.  Interment will be follow at Crane County Cemetery in Crane, Texas.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel of Odessa. 

Alan Lumpkin

John Alan Lumpkin, age 46, passed from this life on Monday, April 16, 2012 in Odessa.  He was born in Midland on Saturday, May 29, 1965 to John T. and Maudie Lou Lumpkin.  He married Mary Howze in Odessa on September 16, 1995.  Alan worked as a mall security guard before poor health prevented him from working.  He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Alan was a very loving man whose kids held a special place in his heart.  He enjoyed playing cards with his wife and mother and spending time and working with his dad.  He liked to work in his yard, play on the computer, and watch pro wrestling and cooking shows.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife:  Mary Lumpkin of Odessa; father:  John T. Lumpkin of Odessa; two sons:  Kristopher Alan Roe and wife Elizabeth and Anthony Thomas Lumpkin, all of Brownwood; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.

His mother:  Lou Lumpkin preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am Friday, April 20, 2012 at West University Church of Christ in Odessa, officiated by Bro. Lynn Money.  Interment will be at 2:00 pm at Gaines County Cemetery North in Seminole, Texas.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.
