Alejandro Pedro Torres, age 31, of Abilene, passed from this life on Sunday, May 20, 2012 following a tragic car accident in Odessa. He was born in Abilene on June 3, 1980 to Alejandro Torres and Angelita (Aranda) Borrego. He had been a student at Permian High School. Since October, Alejandro had been working for Smith Pipe of Abilene. He was a hard worker and he enjoyed his job. He was Catholic.
Alejandro was a loving son and was very close to his family. His children meant the world to him and he was a caring uncle to his nieces and nephews. His favorite color was red.
Those left to cherish Alejandro’s memory are his parents: Angelita and Armando Borrego of Odessa; biological father: Alejandro Torres of Abilene; maternal grandmother: Natividad Lopez of Abilene; grandmother: Bessie Borrego of Abilene; three sons: Alejandro Pedro Torres, Jr, Aaron Lee Torres, and Alex Alcantar, all of Odessa; two daughters: Amanda LeAnn Torres and Amber Mercedes Torres, both of Odessa; the mother of his children: Kimberly Vasquez of Odessa; seven brothers: Joseph Borrego of San Angelo, Orlando Borrego of Abilene, Armando Borrego Jr and Adam Borrego, both of Odessa, and Nicholas Torres, Marcus Torres, and Alejandro Torres, all of Abilene; sister: Angelica Torres of Odessa; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, as well as many, many friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Prayer services will be held at 7:00 pm Wednesday and Thursday evenings at Acres West's 24 Hour Chapel. Socorro Carrasco, age 83, of Odessa, passed from this life on Friday, May 25, 2012 at her residence. She was born in El Mulato, Chihuahua, Mexico on September 29, 1928 to the late Manuel and Susana (Briones) Garcia. She was a homemaker and family was everything to her. Socorro loved family gatherings, and holidays and birthdays were big events. Her late husband, Macario T. Carrasco, used to hire a band to make her birthday celebrations special. She was Catholic.
Those left to cherish her love and memory are her sons: Jose Macario Carrasco of Midland and Joe Mendoza of Tucson, AZ; daughters: Elma Rangel of Burley, ID and Mary Mendoza of Odessa; three sisters: Manuela Tavarez of Odessa, Amparo Salcido of Midland, and Romelia Gomez of Roswell, NM; nineteen grandchildren including her favorite: Rudy Dominguez of Odessa; forty-four great-grandchildren; and eleven great-great grandchildren.

Tomas Renteria De Los Santos, age 61, of Odessa, passed from this life on Saturday, May 26, 2012, at his residence. He was born in Stanton, TX on September 14, 1950 to Luz P. De Los Santos and Erlinda Renteria De Los Santos. He married Amelia Gonzales in 1973 in Seminole. Tomas worked as a mechanic in the oil field.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife: Amelia De Los Santos of Odessa; three daughters: Tracy Ochoa of Denver City, Terri Miranda of Wolfforth, and Michelle Garza of Del Rio; three sons: Tomas De Los Santos, Jr. of Lubbock, and Jacob De Los Santos and Danny De Los Santos, both of Odessa; two sisters: Elivira Fuentes of Spring Branch and Peggy Carrasco of Odessa; four brothers: Luz Del Los Santos, Jr. of Merkel, Gomesindo De Los Santos of Odessa, Justus De Los Santos of Andrews and Joe De Los Santos of Ballinger; eleven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Barbie (Buckholt) Sherwood, age 52, of Odessa, passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2012, in Odessa. She was born in Dallas on February 8, 1960 to Barbara Alice (Holderman) McCaslin and the late Jimmy Buckholt. She loved to cook for her family.
Barbie loved the outdoors, animals, and music. She was an awesome mother and devoted grandmother.

Lindzey Shae (Autry) Stone, 29, of Odessa, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at her residence. She was born in Odessa on July 24, 1982 to Stephen Autry and Cheryl Jones. Lindzey graduated high school in Odessa and worked as a waitress.
Lindzey loved her kids more than anything else in the world. She will be remembered for being extremely outgoing; loving music, partying, and talking to friends on the phone and Facebook. Lindzey loved animals. You could always depend on her to bring home every stray animal she found. She will be dearly missed.

The Permian Basin mourns the tragic loss of three precious children. Jamie Marie Belis, age 10, her brother Ruben Julius Ramirez, age 8, and their sister Alaina Elvira Belis, age 4. All three were gathered into the safety of the arms of Jesus after being involved in a horrific car accident on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 on Highway 385 just north of Odessa. Marie was born March 31, 2002, Ruben on July 24, 2003 and Alaina on July 24, 2007. All were born in Odessa. Marie was a 5th grader Seminole Elementary, Ruben was a 3rd grader at Seminole Primary School, and Alaina was a preschooler.
Left to cherish their memories are their mother and step-father: Madonna Jamie Amaton and Carlos Amaton of Seminole; brother: James Eric Belis (age 6) of Seminole; grandparents: Renee Salazar and husband Eddie Lara, Joe and Linda Araiza, and Jose Paredes, all of Odessa; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 12 Noon at Ramirez Trucking on 3rd and Moss Streets. Visitation will be at Acres West Funeral Chapel on Monday, June 11, 2012 from 8 am to 9 pm. Hannelore Hedwig Emma McLean, 75, of Odessa, passed away May 30, 2012. She was born November 8, 1936 in Litpehne, Germany. Hanna was a secretary in the retail business.
Survivors are her husband: Harold McLean of Odessa; sons: Thomas and Kevin McLean of Odessa; sisters: Waltraud and husband Jose Rodriguez of Oceanside, CA, Anneliese, Brigitte, Gabriele Brockhoff and husband Reiner all of Neurenburg, Germany; grandchildren: Joseph McLean and Kelsie McLean; nephew: Jose W. Rodriguez & family of Alabama; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Shelia Vernon Collins transitioned from this life into her eternal life Wednesday evening, May 30, 2012 at Hospice House of Odessa. She was born in Odessa, Texas on February 21, 1949 to Vernon and Miltrue Collins. She was educated in the Ector County School District having attended Carver Elementary School, Blackshear Jr.,Sr. High School. Shelia also attended Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas. She was a faithful and active member of the Highland and Bunche St Church of Christ having been baptized at an early age. She was employed by the Ector County Independent School District as a counselor at Gayle Pond Alamo Elementary.
Shelia was a loving, caring Christian who shared her life with many people and constantly showed her commitment to her heavenly Father through her works of kindness. She was an innovative individual and was involved in many organizations and projects. She was responsible for initiating the idea for the City of Odessa water parks which led to the creation of the Woodson and Sherwood Aquatic Centers. She was responsible for starting the Blackshear High School Reunion. She was a leader in getting the Gertrude Bruce Center established and continued to work in its development. She was the secretary/treasurer of the Odessa Branch of the NAACP. She was a local and state officer of the Texas Coalition of Black Democrats. She was instrumental in starting the James Elkins Singers who she enjoyed performing with. She worked as teacher, fellowship coordinator, and in many other roles at the Highland and Bunche St Church of Christ. She was the Co-Founder of the Collins Family Reunion and was its chairperson every year.
She worked at AT&T phone company, the Post Tribune Newspaper in Dallas, the Gene Collins Insurance Agency, and the Ector County Independent School District. She was the owner of Shelia's Flower Shop for many years.
She was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Collins, her maternal grandparents Alvessie Nealy Cotton and Tommie Cotton, her paternal grandparents Honorah Huff Collins and Ed Collins.
She leaves to mourn her transition a son, Randy LeVar Smith, her mother Miltrue Collins, two brothers Gene O. (Joann) Collins, Hubert R. (Debra) Collins all of Odessa, four aunts Johnnie Collins and Ruth Watkins, both of Odessa, Sandra Hunter of Abilene, TX, and Mildred Cotton of California, three uncles, Milton Gilmore of Oceanside, CA, Allen Lewis Cotton of Atlanta, GA and J. T. Cotton of Lubbock, Texas, one niece April Kathleen Collins, five nephews Gene O. Collins, Jr., Hubert R. Collins, Jr., Vernon Russell Collins, Jessie Houston, Demetrius R. Collins, and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Highland and Bunche St. Church of Christ, 1705 Highland Street from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday, June 8, 2012 at 6th and Jackson Streets Church of Christ, officiated by Brother Gene O. Collins. |Billy Bruce Griffin|
Billy Bruce Griffin, 76, of Odessa, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Medical Center Hospital. He was born in Foreman, Arkansas on April 20, 1936 to William and Martha Griffin. He married Kay Griffin in 1962 and later married Patsy (Jackson) Griffin who passed away in 1995. Billy also served as a Marine in the US Military for about 10 years.
Billy was very proud of his service to the military. He would have considered staying longer, but his father passed away and being the eldest son; he found it his responsibility to go home and take care of his family. So he started his civilian career in the oilfield as a floor hand working his way up to tool pusher. In his spare time, Billy was an avid bowler and Nascar fan. He loved races, could fix almost anything, loved to travel and had a great sense of humor. He will be missed by all.
Those left to cherish his love and memory are his daughter: Lyla and husband James Morris of Odessa; son: Scott Griffin and wife Raven of Lamesa, Texas; brother: Larry and wife Kathy Griffin of Giddings, Texas; sisters: Lola Canney of Midland, Dorothy Bolton of Lamesa, and Shirley Cowart of Amarillo; mother of his children: Kay Griffin of Lamesa, Texas; granddaughter: Lily Night Griffin of Lamesa; and one baby boy grandson –on the way.
Billy is preceded in death by his wife: Patsy (Jackson) Griffin; parents: William and Martha Griffin; and two sisters: Betty Singleton and Martha Paul.

Richard Dale "Rich" Larsen
Richard Dale Larsen, age 71, formerly of Odessa, passed from this life on Friday, June 1, 2012 at his residence in Granbury, Texas. He was born in Las Cruces, NM on March 9, 1941 to Martin and Phyllis (Dicks) Larsen. He was an electrician in the heating and cooling industry.
Rich was cofounder of Custom Wholesale Supply of Odessa, where he was involved in day to day business from 1980 to 1999. They also had stores in Abilene, Wichita Falls, and Amarillo. When he retired, he turned to his beloved friend Don Loving, and worked with him at Loving Electric and Air Conditioning. He was a prankster who enjoyed jokes and read Western novels. Never one to sit around watching TV, Rich loved fishing, hunting, and chasing after pretty girls. He thoroughly enjoyed flirting and talking with the gals and always ended up making friends. He never met a stranger and could always be counted on for a helping hand. In his later years, he devoted his time and attention to one bossy “lady” in particular, his Jack Russell terrier – Tia Louise. She had her own life jacket and would ride around with him on his jet ski. The other important lady in his life was his granddaughter, Sophia. They would have fun slumber parties together.
Those left to cherish his memory are his devoted friends: Don and Mary Loving of Odessa; daughters: Melissa Rutledge and husband Rodney of Odessa; daughter: Rickie Sweet and son-in-law: Bernie of Midlothian; son: Jeff Larsen and wife Jenna of Del Rio; nine grandchildren: Sophia Rutledge, Alyssa Rutledge, Gage Rutledge and wife Kim, Marc Rutledge and wife Courtney, Stephanie Sweet, Matthew Sweet, Nicole Slovak and husband Steve, Bailey Larsen, and Alyzabeth Larsen; four great-grandchildren and one great-grandbaby on the way; and of course, Tia Louise. Rich also leaves behind good friends too numerous to mention.

Thelma Elizabeth Solley, age 92, of Odessa, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Deerings Nursing Center. She was born in Hillside, PA on May 25, 1920 to the late Harvey and Ida (Nolf) Wolford. She married Orval Jefferson Solley in Blairsville, PA in November of 1945. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. Thelma worked as a concessions manager for the Odessa Country Club and retired at the age of 78.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son: Ron Solley of Odessa; daughter: Lois Solley; six grandchildren: Jason Solley of Fallon, NV, Jeff Solley of Bridgeport, Erik Goswick of Salida, CO, Sherry Williamson of Odessa, Donna Goswick of Cleburne, and Diane Robinson of Odessa; six great-grandchildren: Kourtney and Kristofer Row, both of Odessa and Jonathan, Jewel, Jaycee, and Jayden Solley, all of Fallon, NV; and one great-great grandchild: Desiree McKinney, of Odessa.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband in 1968. Her parents, four brothers and four sisters, also precede her in death.

Matthew McKinley Crawford, Jr., age 33, of Odessa, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2012, in Odessa. He was born in Wichita, Kansas on August 11, 1978. He was a member of Greater St. John's Baptist Church and worked as a carpenter and handyman.
He was the son of Matthew McKinley Crawford Sr. of Wichita, KS and Donna Sue Simpson of Odessa. He is also survived by his daughters: Jaquadre Moore and Jiaysia Crawford of Midland; three sons: Gregory George, Curtis Laury, and Exavion Crawford, all of Midland; paternal grandmother: Bessie Hunt of Odessa; maternal grandparents: Doug and Alvie Simpson of Odessa; four sisters: Shandrea Crawford and Macheic Crawford, both of Euless, Hiawatha Crawford of Odessa, and Bernitra Walker of Tulsa, Okla.; and two brothers: Kevin Shorter and Sammy Valencia, both of Odessa.

Jose Nuñez Urias, age 76, of Odessa, passed away on Monday, June 4, 2012 at his residence. He was born September 18, 1935 in Pilares, Ojinaga, Chihuahua Mexico to the late Valentino and Rosa (Nuñez) Urias. He married Ines Venegas on March 27, 1978 in Odessa. Jose was a retired oil field worker. He was a member of Iglesia Fundamento Sobre la Roca.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife: Ines Urias of Odessa; son: Jose Luis Romero and wife Maria of Odessa; daughter: Sylvia Urias Alarcon and husband Andres of Salem, AR; two brothers: Tomas Urias and wife Olga of Odessa and Valentine Urias and wife Maria of Artesia, NM; sister: Elvira Murillo and husband Andres of Odessa; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, two brothers: Salvador Urias and Nicolas Urias, and one son: Jesus Romero Venegas, preceded him in death.

Alexandra Marie Gutierrez Hinojos, age 10 of Odessa, was whisked away to be with the angels on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Covenant Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Lubbock. Alexandra was born in Odessa on April 14, 2002 to Joaquin Hinojos and Manuela (Gutierrez) Pacheco. She loved animals and had a very positive outlook on her future. She was a 5th grader at Goliad Elementary with a long term goal of becoming a vet someday.
Alexandra was a shy but friendly girl who loved to laugh and joke around and was very close to her family. She loved her father very much and was afraid of ever disappointing him. She and her dad were always teasing, biting and pinching. Playing around, Alexandra would call her mom fat but say that she (Alexandra) was skinny, white, and perfect because she looked like her father and her Nina. She loved to dance, but told her family she didn’t want a quinceañera, when she turned 15 – she wanted a Mustang! Her favorite colors were hot pink and lime green.
Those left to cherish her memory are her father: Joaquin Hinojos; mother: Manuela Pacheco; grandmother: Maria Hinojos; and her three beloved brothers: Manuel Pacheco, Jesus Hinojos, and Jacob Hinojos; and her best friend who was like a sister to her: Jazmine; all of Odessa, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Juan Acosta Martinez, age 74, of Odessa, Texas, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2012, at Deerings Nursing Home in Odessa. He was born in Loving, NM on December 27, 1937 to Seferino and Vicenta (Acosta) Martinez. He worked in the construction business. He was Catholic.
He loved the pond at Comanche Trail Park in Odessa and loved to have his morning coffee with his friends at McDonalds on 8th Street.
He is survived by his son: Seferino Martinez of Odessa; two sisters: Refugia Martinez and Angelica Martinez, both of Carlsbad, NM; one brother: Max Martinez of El Paso; special nieces and nephews: Lety, Zack, Zoe, Chloe, Lolie, Tom, Steve, Lalie, Ruben, Carmen, Jerry and Sandra; and many other nieces and nephews.
His parents, grandparents: Anastacio and Rita Acosta; wife: Josephine (Armesto) Martinez; four brothers: Gregorio, Placido, Andres, and Manuelito Martinez; and three sisters: Isavel M. Tavarez, Francisca Deporto, and Francisca Garcia, precede him in death.

Bradley Scott Forrester, Sr., 54, of Odessa, passed away on June 9, 2012 in Garden City. He was born October 31, 1957 in Houston, Texas to the late James Price Forrester and Norlane Jackie (Glass) Forrester. He married Sheri Sue Grant in Midland on August 14, 1992. Brad was a petroleum consultant for Chevron for over 20 years.
Survivors are his wife: Sheri Forrester of Odessa; sons: Bradley Scott Forrester, Jr. and Jonathan Grant McWilliams both of Odessa; daughters: Kristen Wallman and Tami Forrester both of Sugar Land, Texas; and six grandchildren: Cameron Wallman, Zachary Wallman, Elyzabeth Nikole McWilliams, Shelby McWilliams, Gage McWilliams, and Laci McWilliams.
In addition to his parents, one son: David Stapp McWilliams; infant grandson: Brayden Stapp Forrester; brother: Steve Forrester; and sister: Norlane Jones, precede him in death.
