|Henry Ray “Hank” Clay|
Henry Ray “Hank” Clay, age 85, of Odessa, TX passed away on Friday, April 12, 2013. He was born in Golden, MO on April 29, 1927. He was a retired veteran of the US Navy and Naval Reserve, who dedicated his life to serving his country.
Hank married Roberta Imogene Steele December 23, 1950 in Monett, MO. They had three children: Tommas Dale (now deceased), Richard Lee and Patricia Ann. They moved to Odessa March 17 of 2012.
Hank was an avid deer and elk hunter and loved to fish. He was never idle and often tinkered with repairing broken items. He enjoyed metal detecting and bargain hunting. He could never pass up a good deal.
He is survived by his wife: Roberta Imogene Clay of Odessa; son: Richard Lee Clay and wife Betty of Odessa; daughter: Patricia Ann Clay and husband Edward Bowers of Arlington, TX; sisters: Evelyn Louise Rasmussen of Howe, TX, Wanda May Rogers of California, and Dorothy June Porter and husband Bill of Irving, TX; brothers: John Monroe Clay of Monett, MO and Carl Gene Clay and wife Melinda of Howe, TX; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
In addition to his son, Hank is preceded in death by his parents: Henry Franklin Clay and Bertie Eugene (Loftis) Clay and his sister: Mary Ellen Montoya.

|Benito Rubi Ramirez, Jr.|
Benito Rubi Ramirez, Jr. age 58, of Odessa, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2013 at Hospice House. He was born in Ft. Stockton on December 29, 1954 to the late Benito Ramirez, Sr. and Eva Arcides Ramirez. He was an artist who did murals and tattoo artistry. He also worked as a painter in industrial construction. Benito was Catholic.
He is survived by two brothers: Rene Ramirez and Reynaldo Ramirez, both of Odessa; two sisters: Esmeralda Murrillo of Firebaugh, CA and Emma Gina Luna of Odessa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial Mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church officiated by Father Mamatehan Joseph at a date and time to be announced. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Maria de la Paz Lujan, age 85, of Odessa, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Sienna Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born April 8, 1928 in Santa Elena, Chihuahua, Mexico to the late Juan de la Paz and Juana (Acosta) de la Paz. She was a homemaker.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Jose Alfredo Lujan de la Paz and Noelia Lujan Sanchez, Simon Lujan de la Paz, all of Ojinaga, CH, MX, Aurora Lujan Zubiate of El Paso, Gabino Lujan de la Paz of Cuauhtemoc, CH, MX, and Manuela Lujan Ronquillo and Jorge Lujan de la Paz, both of Odessa; one sister: Micaela de la Paz Gomez of Post; twenty-nine grandchildren and thirty-four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Simon Lujan Baeza, and her daughter: Mariana Lujan Rubio.
Funeral services will be held at a later date in Ojinaga, with interment to follow at Jardines de San Jose.

|Walter James Gedney, Sr.|
Walter James Gedney, Sr. age 75, of Odessa, passed from this life on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Hospice House. He was born in Monticello, NY on September 22, 1937 to the late Webster B. Gedney and Anna E. (Taynor) Gedney. He served in the National Guard and worked in the oilfield as a truck driver and shop hand.
Walter was a very hard worker whose work was his life. He dropped out of school to work to support his family and devoted himself to his work from that point on. He was always a nurturer – putting others before himself and helping others. He was Shirley’s personal “grouch” and his grandchildren’s “Grouchy Grandpa”, gruff on the outside – but with a heart of gold.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife: Shirley J. Dorries (Freeze) Gedney of Odessa; sons: Walter James Gedney, Jr. and wife Shirly and Isiah Gedney and wife Jackie, all of San Angelo and Jesse Barret of Gardendale; daughters: Ann L. Aguilar and husband Joel of Weatherford, Melissa Brewer and husband Larry of Odessa, Sandra Gedney and husband Tony of Carlsbad, TX, Nicole Burris and husband Tim, Nancy Nolan and husband Travis, and Candie Dorries and husband Steve, all of Odessa, Kathy Pack and husband Eddie of Sedgewickville, MO, and Jodessa Barton and husband Rick of Ft. Worth; brother: Harry W. Gedney of North Carolina; two nephews; twenty-five grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife: Sandra, and his second wife: Neva.
Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Friday, April 19, 2013 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd. Odessa, officiated by Lt. Joe and Monica Contreras. Interment will be privately held at Crane County Cemetery at a later date. Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.
Eliana Villasana, an infant, was born and then went straight to the arms of Jesus on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Odessa Regional Medical Center in Odessa.
She is survived by her parents: Cesar Villasana and Vanessa (Duran) Villasana; maternal grandparents: Miguel Angel and Joann Duran; paternal grandparents: Julia and Victor Villasana all Odessa.
Graveside Services are scheduled at 9 am, Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery, officiated by Father Frank Chavez. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd. Odessa, TX.
Paul Derwood Shaffer, Jr.
Paul Derwood Shaffer, Jr., age 70, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2013 at Hospice House of Odessa. He was born in Wichita Falls, TX on November 18, 1942 to the late Paul Derwood Shaffer, Sr. and Mabel Margaret (O’Hare) Shaffer. He worked in the oilfield as a drilling engineer and was a US Army Veteran.
He is survived by his son: Edward Shaffer of Ft. Pierce, FL; three sisters: Linda Shaffer Stewart and Paula Ruth Wright, both of Odessa, and Anne Shaffer Bowen of Midland; and one granddaughter: Charlotte Pearl Shaffer.

Evelyn Gail Carney, age 69, of Odessa, passed from this life on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Medical Center Hospital. She was born in Hermosa Beach, CA on May 13, 1943 to the late James Evans and June Fern (Weddle) Evans. She had retired in 2003 from working for ECISD as a cook.
Evelyn was hornery as hell, but a loving grandmother and mama to her dog, “Chicken”. She liked Tweety Bird and shopping at Wal Mart. In fact, after her stroke, Wal Mart shopping was her therapy.
She is survived by four sons: Jesse Carney of Missouri, Jon Carney, Jack Carney and James Dean Evans, all of Odessa; daughter: Charlotte Moomey of Odessa; two brothers: Terry Evans and Ted Evans, both of California; sister: Vera Martette of Missouri; fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son: James Carney.
Memorial services will be 10:00 am Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd. Odessa, officiated by Rev. Jimmy Braswell. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.
Gabriel Peña, 39, of Presidio passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Medical Center in Odessa. He was born December 31, 1973 in Alpine, Texas to Marta Peña and Victor Carrasco, Sr. A certified electrician until his disability in 2012, he was also a member of Santa Teresa de Jesus Catholic Church.
Gabriel was an awesome dad and very loving to his kids. He was very free spirited, loved the outdoors and to barbeque. Gabriel was friendly, playful and very well liked by everyone; young and old.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife: Alba (Dominguez) Peña; son: Alfred (Freddy) D. Peña; daughter: Lisa Marie Peña all of Presidio; mother: Marta Peña of Alpine; father: Victor Carrasco, Sr.; brothers: Frankie Hartnett and Victor Carrasco, Jr.; sister: Desiree Baeza all of Alpine.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Monday, April 22, 2013 at San Jose Catholic Church in Redford, TX officiated by Father Jose Alfredo Hinojosa. Efrain Olivas, age 54, of Odessa, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Medical Center Hospital. He was born on August 8, 1958 in Pecos, TX to the late Genovebo and Rosa Olivas. Efrain married “The Love of his Life” Linda Paz in Odessa on April 30, 1978 and they raised four children. He was owner and operator of G & O Fencing which was established by his father Geno Olivas in 1976.
Efrain was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Known as “Popo” to his grandchildren, he was a big teddy bear when it came to his grandchildren. They were everything to him and he supported them in everything they did. He also coached baseball for his children as they were growing up and horse racing was a family sport. Efrain also enjoyed family gatherings and loved deer hunting. He was an hornery man and will always be remembered by how he would walk into a room and say “How you doing?”
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 35 years: Linda Olivas; three sons: Ifrain Olivas, Jr. and wife Christy, Geno Olivas and wife Edith and Richard Olivas and wife Jessica; daughter: Michelle Olivas; brother: Victor Olivas and wife Concepcion; four sisters: Patricia Garcia and husband Isias, Beatrice Escarcega and husband Baldemar, Maribel Olivas and husband Hector Mendez, and Joann Olivas and husband G. A. Rivera; and thirteen grandchildren: Zavana, Cassandra, Seleste Zambrano, Carlos, Anthony, Ethan, Aaron, Rayn, London, Vianni, Damian, Richard, Jaelyn (Pumpkin) Olivas, all of Odessa.
Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 pm Wednesday evening, April 24, 2013 at Acres West 24 Hour Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, officiated by Father Michael Rodriguez. Jerry Wayne Beason, age 63, of Odessa, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Heflin, AL on October 3, 1949 to the late Benjamin Franklin Beason and Francis Julia (Jacks) Beason. He ran casing in the oil field.
He is survived by his wife: Sharon Beason of Odessa; son: Jerry Beason of Odessa; step-son: Brad Thetford of Gainesville; two daughters: Tracy Johnston and husband Billy and Amanda Cleveland, both of Odessa; sisters: Emma Jo Turner of Georgia and Shirley Jean Noell of Alabama; sixteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
His parents and one sister: Linda Peeples, preceded him in death.
