James Walter Germany, Jr.

James Walter Germany, Jr., age 65, of Odessa, died Saturday, June 29, 2013 at his home in Odessa.  He was born in Denver, CO on February 7, 1948 to the late James Walter Germany, Sr. and Vara Germany.  

Survivors are his wife:  Regina Briggs Germany of Odessa; daughter:  Roxann McGrew of Denver, CO; two sisters:  Francis Germany of California and Dorothy Crawford of Odessa; and two grandchildren. 

Services were privately held.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Clara Uribe Porras

Clara Uribe Porras, age 80, of Presidio, died Monday, July 1, 2013 at Midland Memorial Hospital in Midland, TX.  She was born in Barrancos de Guadalupe, Chihuahua, Mexico on August 12, 1932.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Catholic Church.

She is survived by her sons:  Santana Porras of Odessa, Felix Porras of Odessa, Eliseo Porras of Ojinaga, CH, MX, Benjamin Porras of Odessa, Martin Porras of Presidio, Chano Porras Jr. of Kermit, and Rogelio Porras of Kermit; daughters:  Licha Baeza of Presidio, Irma Porras of Presidio, Leticia Serrano of Lovington, NM, and Edith Ramos of Lubbock; son:  Rene Porras of Lubbock; sisters:  Bertha Uribe of Odessa, Maria Carrasco of Dallas, Dolores Udare of Cuahtemoc, CH, MX, and Gregoria Uribe of Houston; brother:  Jose Uribe of Ojinaga, CH, MX; thirty-six grandchildren and forty great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at a later date in Ojinaga, CH, Mexico with interment to follow at Jardines de San Jose in Ojinaga.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel of Odessa and Funeraria De Valle in Ojinaga.

James Frances McCraw

James Frances McCraw, 98, of Odessa, Texas went to be with our Lord on July 3, 2013.  James was born to James Elvis and Mary Thelma Pike McCraw on May 17, 1915 in Boyd, Texas. James married Alice Watson on February 2, 1956. That union enlarged his family by adding in his step children, Joyce and Bill, and eventually brought him 8 grandchildren.  James and Alice named their ranch in Illinois, the 7 Bar, to represent the seven granddaughters and one grandson.  James lived life to the fullest, always surrounded by loved ones. He loved his time on the ranch and being outdoors.  He will be remembered for his love of life, pontoon boating, horseback riding, farming, ranching, river trips, apple picking, and many other activities he shared with his family and friends.   He was a blessing to all who knew him. James was a member of the Moose Lodge in Illinois. After many years of ranching in Illinois, he and Alice retired to Odessa, Texas.   We know he has on his boots and cowboy hat once again and is entertaining those around him.  He will be missed.   

James was preceded in death by his siblings, Luicelle Gill, Joey McCraw, Elvis McCraw, H. E. (Peanut) McCraw, Oleta Matthews, Edgar (Pete) McCraw, Frank (Hugh) McCraw, and Don McCraw. 

James is survived by his wife, Alice Watson McCraw.  His siblings Doyle (Smokey) McCraw, Rebecca LaRosa, and Blanche (Blondie) Gipson, his step children, Joyce Weathers Trower and Billy Ray Weathers.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Karen Weathers Franco, Patricia Weathers Butler, Linda Weathers Evans, Pamela Weathers Wiseman, Janice Weathers Bartz, Donna Trower Downs, Tonya Trower Brown, and James Wayne Trower.  James is also survived by many great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great, great nieces and nephews.

Wayne Grainger

Wayne Grainger, age 75 of Midland, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2013 at Midland Memorial Hospital.  He was born in Patricia, TX on January 4, 1938 to the late William Jennings Grainger and Margaret (Covington) Grainger.  He was a consultant in the oilfield. 

Wayne was a hard worker, but he also had a creative side.  He wrote poetry and songs, including songs for church and the nursing home.  He enjoyed reading Western books, and playing dominos, cards, and Wahoo.  Wayne played to win.  Cooking out and camping were favorite pastimes and watching Permian football was a must.  He went anywhere they played. 

He is survived by his son:  Tony Grainger and wife Dollucy of Odessa; daughters:  Clara Suzanne Bensley and husband Dan of Sherburne, NY and Nanette Kelton of Odessa; and sister:  Dorothy Camp of West Monroe, LA; and seven grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers:  Joe Grainger and Robert Covington; and sister:  Liz Hughes. 

Memorial Services will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd. Odessa, TX. 

Joseph Eugene Balek

Joseph Eugene Balek passed away on July 7, 2013 in Odessa. Joseph was born on August 31, 1938 in Mason City, Iowa to Joseph James and Dorothy Wade Balek. Joseph married Janice Bonner on January 10, 2003 in Midland Texas. 

Joseph was a league pool player with the Outer Limits and always won, he was getting ready to travel to play in Las Vegas. Joseph enjoyed the wind in his face while riding his motorcycles. He loved to race his Hayabusa. His passion was tinkering with his ’67 Triumph, and he had even installed a 2nd motor in it. Joseph was an adventurous person who loved life.  Joseph had a special hankering for chocolate and was often found at the store buying Snickers chocolate bars, wintergreen Lifesavers and black walnut ice cream. A supervisor at a bakery, he often criticized the baking skills of his wife Janice. He was a meticulous person, everything had a place and there was a place for everything.  Joseph loved the weather in Odessa. 

Those left cherish his memories are his wife: Janice Hawkes Balek of Odessa; sons:  Joseph Michael Balek and David Allen Balek both of Branchville, VA; daughters: Karen Wheeler and husband Scott of Ft. Mojave, AZ., Christina Marie Sanders and husband Ron of Virginia Beach, VA., Joy Marie Bonner of Midland and Lisa Kay Bonner of Odessa; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be privately held at a later date.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Ivan Valerio Jr.

Ivan Valerio Jr. was born in Odessa and was carried straight to Jesus’ arms on July 12, 2013.

Those left to look forward to holding him in Heaven are his parents: Ivan Valerio Sr. and Michele Haddock of Odessa; his maternal grandparents: Patricia and Darrell Haddock of Odessa; paternal grandmother: Susana Valerio of Odessa; and his sister: Dakota Haddock of Odessa.

He is preceded in death by his brother:  Jayden Valerio.

Graveside services are Monday, July 15, 2013 at 9:00 am at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery, officiated by Father Joe Uecker.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Eric Samuel Ruvalcaba

Eric Samuel Ruvalcaba was born and passed away on July 11, 2013.

Those left to cherish his memories are his parents: Eric and Elva (Aude) Ruvalcaba of Odessa; maternal grandparents: Jesus and Luz Aude of El Paso; paternal grandparents: Jose and Graciela Ruvalcaba of El Paso; maternal great-grandmother: Guadalupe Castillo of Chihuahua, Mexico; paternal great-grandparents: Jose Cruz and Odelia Ruvalcaba of Juarez, Mexico; and paternal great-grandfather: Felipe Rodriguez Sr. of El Paso.

Memorial Services will be held on July 15, 2013 at 10:00 am at Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd, Odessa, Texas, officiated by Fr. Joe Uecker. 

L Llanez

Liborio Jeronimo Llanez, Sr.

Liborio Jeronimo Llanez, Sr. age 50 of Odessa, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2013 in Odessa.  He was born in Lamesa, TX on July 23, 1962 to the late Eraclio Hernandez Llanez and Librada Albrado Albidres Llanez.  

He is survived by his son:  Liborio Jeronimo Llanez, Jr. of Odessa; daughter:  Irene Llanez of Odessa; three brothers:  Pedro Llanez of Andrews, and Frank Llanez and Mario Llanez, both of Odessa; sisters:  Adela Garza, Elsa Llanez, all of Odessa, and Catarina Flasshoff of Germany; and five grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother:  Ursulo Llanez, sisters:  Clara Llanez and Beatrice Llanez Ojeda; and one granddaughter:  Michelle Llanez.

Tio Libo always had a big heart.  He was a loving uncle, father, brother and grandfather who loved his kids, grandbabies, nieces and nephews with all of his heart.  May you be with God in Heaven above.  You will be missed and will always be loved.  – Kim Casias

Rosary will be said at Acres West Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 7:30 pm.  Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Interment will follow at Peaceful Garden of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

J Gerber
Jeremy Mac Gerber

Jeremy Mac Gerber, age 41, of Odessa, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at his home.  He was born in Odessa on May 20, 1972 to Yolanda Alvarado Gerber and the late Christopher Laurance Gerber.  He was an OHS graduate and had attended Odessa College.  Jeremy worked as a journeyman plumber for 22 years.  He was Catholic.

Jeremy was a talented artist and a member of the art club at OHS.  He loved creating tattoos and helping others.  He enjoyed archery, cooking, hunting and camping and was a Past Range Captain for the PBAA.  Jeremy loved hanging out with his family and friends.  He was a great guy who will be missed by many.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother:  Yolanda Gerber of Odessa; grandparents:  Mr. and Mrs. Cristobal and Vangie Martinez of Española, New Mexico; his twelve year old son:  Jeremy Gerber II; two sisters:  Jennifer Gerber and Jody Essary and husband Danny; nephews:  Ian Essary and Isaiah Essary, all of Odessa; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Memorial services will be held at a later date at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

We love you, Jeremy.  Rest in peace.

L Gomez

Lawrence Samaniego “Ongo” Gomez

Lawrence Samaniego “Ongo” Gomez, age 40, of Odessa, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Odessa Regional Medical Center.  He was born in Odessa on May 26, 1973 to Juanita Martinez Gomez.  He graduated from Odessa High School and went to school in Albuquerque where he learned auto painting.  He was Catholic.

Ongo was an artist.  He worked in an auto body shop where he painted and did art work on lowriders.  A prankster, he loved to joke around and make everyone laugh.  He enjoyed cooking out and spending time with family and friends.

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his mother:  Juanita Gomez; brothers:  Augustine Gomez, Antonio Gomez, Israel Gomez and wife Elia, and Joe Alfred Gomez and wife Patricia; and sister:  Alicia Garcia and husband Rudy; live in companion:  Laura Leon and her children:  Alex Leon and Ashley Leon; and her four grandchildren; all of Odessa.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter:  Santana Gomez; and his maternal grandparents:  Felipe and Rebecca Samaniego.

Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Friday, July 19, at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Funeral services will be 10:00 am Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd. Odessa, TX, officiated by Father Joe Uecker.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.
