M Amaya

Marcelo Amaya Guerrero

Marcelo Amaya Guerrero, age 49 of Odessa, died Monday, October 28, 2013 in Odessa.  He was born in San Juan, Municipio de Ojinaga, Mexico on January 16, 1964 to Jose Miguel Amaya Mata and the late Manuela Guerrero Lujan Amaya.  He was a ranch hand.

Survivors are his father:  Jose Miguel Amaya Mata of Mexico; three brothers:  Jose Reyes Amaya Guerrero, Ruben Amaya Guerrero, and Crisoforo Amaya Guerrero, all of Ojinaga, CH, MX; and five sisters:  Rita Amaya Guerrero of Grand Prairie, TX, Juana Amaya Urias and Maria Amaya Gonzalez, both of Odessa, Reyna Amaya Guerrero of Perryton, TX, and Maria Luisa Amaya Valenzuela of Ojinaga.

In addition to his mother, he is also preceded in death by his brother:  Socorro Amaya Guerrero.

Rosary will be said at Acres West 24 Hour Funeral Chapel at 7:00 pm, Wednesday, October 30, 2013.

Funeral Services will be at a later date in La Colmena, Mexico with burial at Panteon de la Colmena, Municipio de Ojinaga, Chihuahua Mexico.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa and Funeraria de Valle in Ojinaga, Mexico. 

Maggie Lee Harris

Maggie Lee Harris, age 67, of Odessa, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Medical Center Hospital.  She was born in Sierra Blanca, TX on September 24, 1946 to the late Lee and Addie (Rogers) Davis.  She was a cook.

Maggie is survived by her son:  Bobby Joe Henderson of Midland; daughter:  Nell Henderson of Wickett, TX; sister:  Lottie May of Odessa; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her brothers:  Boolam, James, Rogers, Lee Ralph and Jimmy; and her sisters:  Shirley, and Georgia Lee.

Visitation will be at Acres West Funeral Chapel on Saturday, November 2, 2013.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd. Odessa, TX. 

E Ramirez
Eliot Edward Ramirez

Eliot Edward Ramirez, age 49, of Odessa, passed from the life on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Odessa Regional Medical Center.  He was born in Odessa on December 30, 1963 to Rita (Rodriguez) Ramirez and the late Augustin Ramirez.  Eliot worked in metal recycling in a wrecking yard.

Eliot was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on cars.  He also enjoyed leather crafting and going to the races with his best friend and “white brother”, David James.  A gentle giant, his family meant the world to him.  His nieces and nephews were all very special to him and he had helped him mom to raise his nephew, Seth Ramirez.  Eliot’s favorite saying was, “Ya think?!”

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his mother:  Rita Ramirez of Odessa; three brothers:  David James of Odessa, James Ramirez of Wilburton, OK, and Marty Ramirez of Odessa; sister:  Stephanie Taylor of Odessa; three nieces:  Carrissa Ramirez, Ashlyn Ramirez, and Angelina Ramirez; and four nephews:  Seth Ramirez, Joseph Ramirez, Jonathan Collins, and Joshua Taylor.

Rosary will be said at Acres West Funeral Chapel at 7:00 pm Wednesday, October 30, 2013.  Funeral Mass will be at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church at 10:00 am Thursday, October 31, 2013, officiated by Father Mark Woodruff.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. Thomas Howard Bell, Jr,

Thomas Howard Bell, Jr, age 63, of Odessa, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 in Odessa. Thomas was born on December 2, 1949 to Thomas H. Bell and Mildred (Aymond) Bell in Sinton, Texas and grew up in Pecos, TX. Thomas was a greeter at the Eastside Wal-Mart until he was disabled.

Those left to cherish his memories are brothers: Jerry Bell of San Angelo, Larry Bell of Capitan, NM, sister: Carolyn Scarborough of Alto, NM, one niece, one nephew, two great nephews and one great niece.

Graveside services will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery in Pecos, TX.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd, Odessa, TX.

J Anderson
Joey June Anderson

Joey June Anderson, age 84, of Odessa, departed to be with the Lord on Friday, November 1, 2013.  She was born in Pecos, TX on August 9, 1929 to the late Hubert Allen Belyeu and Laddie Aloy (Rose) Belyeu.  She married Perry Leon Anderson in Andrews on October 25, 1963.  Joey was a nurse who dedicated her life to helping others. She worked at Medical Center Hospital for 26 years, Deerings Nursing Center for 10 years, and MHMR for 10 years, retiring in 1992.  When she went to stay at Parks Methodist Retirement Village, she loved to talk about nursing and give advice to her nurses on caring for patients.

Joey was a hard worker and an awesome cook, who raised seven children.  They were the Brady Bunch before there was a Brady Bunch.  Joey had a big heart, full of love for people and animals (especially dogs and cats).  Her kids and grandkids were precious to her.  She and Perry enjoyed traveling all over the US, Alaska, and Canada, as well as spending time at their cabin in Ruidoso.  She had a pool, but couldn’t swim, saying that she sunk like a turd in a punch bowl.  Joey liked to play dominos and read mystery novels.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons:  Joe Anderson and wife Liz of Odessa, Terry Anderson and wife Janice of Odessa, and Allen Fowler and wife Lovis of Tishomingo, OK; daughters:  Lynda Clancy and husband Richard and Maria Rutledge and husband Don, all of Odessa; eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, one daughter:  Andi Fowler, and one son:  Perry Lee Anderson, precede her in death.

Graveside services to honor her memory will be 2:00 pm Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Sunset Memorial Gardens, officiated by Pastor Jess Little.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and condolences may be sent to the family online at acreswestfuneral.com.

Deborah Ann Cavanaugh

Deborah Ann Cavanaugh, age 45, of Odessa, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2013 at Medical Center Hospital.  She was born in Long Beach, CA on Christmas Day, 1967 to Robert Cavanaugh and the late Florence (Willette) Cavanaugh. 

A Native American, part of Morongo Band of Mission Indians, Deborah treasured the outdoors and animals.  She treated her pit bulls, Blue, Morongo, Smokey G., Koda, and Mystique, better than she treated most people.  She enjoyed riding 4 wheelers, RV -ing, boating and camping.  Deborah also liked old cars and jet skiing.  Music was a huge love of hers, and her children remember vividly seeing her on her riding lawn mower, rocking away to the tunes on her iPod. 

She is survived by her Father:  Robert “Bob” Cavanaugh of Lake Isabella, CA; Son:  Teddy Anderson II and wife Sonia of Odessa; Daughters:  Crystal Anderson and husband Joshua Valenzuela of Odessa, Trisha Anderson of Odessa, Richelle Cavanaugh and husband Fred Benner of Big Bear Lake, CA and Nichole Landau of Victoria, TX; Sisters:  Yvette Harsha of San Dimas, CA, Francis Elkins of Tomball, TX, Kimberlee Cavanaugh of Banning, CA and London Cavanaugh of Billings, MT; Brother:  Louis Cavanaugh of Billings, MT; six Grandchildren:  Nevaeh, Emily, Alexis, Dalylah, Angel, and Graciela; and her life-long Friend:  Teddy Anderson of Odessa.

She was preceded in death by her mother:  Florence Cavanaugh; husband:  William Landau; and brother:  Robert Cavanaugh, Jr.

Her life will be celebrated at a bonfire memorial on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Deborah’s home, 5853 N. Stockton Ave. Odessa, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. 

Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Yadelyn Barrera

Yadelyn Barrera, an infant, was born and passed away on Friday, November 1, 2013 at Medical Center Hospital.  She was the daughter of Jose Barrera Jr. and Yedith Barrera of Odessa.

She is also survived by two brothers:  Jose Barrera III and Julian Barrera; sister:  Yeileen Barrera; maternal grandparents: Maria and Omar Brito of Odessa, paternal grandparents: Jose Barrera Sr. and Linda Barrera of Odessa, uncles: Cesar Barrera and wife Mirella, Johnny Barrera and wife Edna, all of Odessa: aunts: Gina Brito and husband Omar Jr, Yara Montes and husband Jesus, all of Odessa.

Graveside Services will be 9:00 am Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Los Angeles Gardens of Ector County Cemetery, officiated by Fr. Lorenzo Hatch.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Emeteria Guevara Franco

Emeteria Guevara Franco, age 86, of Odessa, passed from this life on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at her residence.  She was born in San Francisco del Tule, Chihuahua, Mexico on March 3, 1927 to the late Santiago Guevara Molina and Felicita (Loya) Guevara.  She retired from work at the YMCA as a custodian in 1993.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband:  Jesus Franco, Sr.; sons:  Erasmo Franco, Jesus Franco, Jr., and Mario Franco; and daughters:  Gloria Martinez, Maria Elena Franco, and Lydia Franco.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her sons:  Jaime Franco, Gil Franco, Hector Franco, and Hugo Franco, all of Odessa; daughter:  Elsa Fajardo of Odessa; brother:  Robustiano Guevara of Juarez, CH, MX; twenty grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Acres West 24 Hour Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd. Odessa, TX, officiated by Pastor Alonzo Padilla.  Interment will follow at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

B Davidson
Billy Jay Davidson

Billy Jay Davidson, age 59, of Odessa, passed from this life on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at his home.  He was born in Sweetwater, TX on April 21, 1954 to Barbara (Williams) Watt and the late Billy James Davidson.  At age 13, he went to work for Busby’s Bowling Lanes (now Diamond Lanes) and he had a long career there.  Jay also drove a truck for Tumbleweed Express for about a year.

Jay enjoyed bowling, and hunting and fishing.  Trips to Camp Wood to go hunting were a favorite, but he liked traveling of any kind.  He also liked to settle down in front of a good ole John Wayne Western.  A very unselfish man, he would give the shirt off of his back to others.  It was not unusual for him to do without and give to others.  Jay was a family man, who took great pride in his children and grandchildren.  He had a funny personality and loved to tease and embarrass his daughter-in-law, Jennifer.  His favorite saying was, “Whatever!”

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his mother:  Barbara Watt of Odessa; son:  Phillip Davidson and wife Jennifer of Odessa; brother:  Rick Watt and wife Sherry of Midland; three sisters:  Karla Austin and husband Gene of Odessa, Kay Cox and husband Mike of Anchor Point, AK, and Brenda Alexander and husband Charles of Odessa; three grandchildren:  Harley Davidson, Jaycie Riggs, and Coltyn Davidson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father:  Billy James Davidson; step-father:  Jack Watt; and one grandson:  Travis James Davidson.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Robert Lamb.  Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Juanita Samaniego Gomez

Juanita Samaniego Gomez, 74, went to be with our Lord on November 2, 2013 in Odessa. Juanita was born to Felipe Samaniego and Rebecca Martinez in Bronte, TX on February 27, 1939.  Juanita worked as a cook until she retired.

Juanita was a plain and simple person. She was old-fashioned. Juanita loved to dance and loved Spanish music. Juanita always made sure her family had what was needed. She never asked for anything from anyone. After work, she always came home and did her housework and cooked and tended to her family. Juanita always made sure everyone had a bite to eat asking, “You hungry, I’ll make you something?” Juanita will be gravely missed by all who loved her.

Those left to cherish her memories are her sons: Augustine Gomez, Antonio Gomez, Israel Gomez and wife Elia, and Joe Alfred and wife Patricia, all of Odessa; daughter: Alicia Garcia and husband Rudy of Odessa; brother: Felipe Samaniego Jr. of Odessa; sister: JoAnn Canales of Odessa; thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Juanita is preceded in death by her parents: Felipe Samaniego Sr. and Rebecca Martinez Samaniego, son: Lawrence Gomez, brothers and sisters: Frank Samaniego, Augustine Samaniego, Efren Samaniego, Paul Samaniego, Jimmy Samaniego, Josephine Hernandez, and Julia Whitney; and two granddaughters: Valerie Gomez and Santana Gomez.

 Rosary will be held at Acres West Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 10:00 a.m., officiated by Fr. Michael Rodriguez. Interment will follow at Los Angeles Garden of Ector County Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University, Odessa.

Eva Villa Flores

Eva Villa Flores, age 60, of Odessa, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at her residence.  She was born in Chihuahua, Mexico on April 21, 1953 to the late Manuel and Carmen (Mendoza) Villa.  She married Alfonso Lopez Flores in Odessa in September of 1973.  She was a homemaker, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.

Eva was very outgoing and friendly.  She would talk to anyone at any time.  Often she would talk to someone for long periods at the store or somewhere as she was out and about.  When asked who it was, she would reveal it was someone she had just met right then, but no one was ever a stranger to her.  Eva was a generous person who was always happy to help others.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband:  Alfonso Flores of Odessa; son:  Jose Alfonso Flores and wife Maribel of Odessa; daughters:  Estella Flores and husband Mark Johnson of Odessa and Leticia Flores and husband Eloy Lozano of Odessa; two sisters:  Lourdes Villa de Perez and Socorro Villa Corona, both of Chihuahua, MX; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother:  Silverio Villa; and two sisters:  Amelia Villa Sapien and Luzelena Villa Rico.

Rosary will be said on Wednesday evening, November 6, 2013, at 7:00 pm at Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd. Odessa. Funeral Mass will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10:00 am Thursday, November 7, 2013, officiated by Father Frank Chavez.
