J Smith
James Vernon “Jim” Smith, Jr.

James Vernon “Jim” Smith, Jr. age 49, of Weatherford, TX, passed from this life and went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 in Weatherford.  Jim was born in San Angelo, TX on May 31, 1964 to James Vernon Smith, Sr. and Barbara Ann (Sprott) Smith.  He had worked in the relief valve business for many years, had been a top salesman at Big Tex Trailers and McJunkin Redman during his time in Odessa, and had most recently had been a machinist.  A US Army Veteran, he served in Korea as a sniper on the DMZ zone.

A moral and upright man, to whom the right and wrong was always clearly defined, Jim always kept his word.  Jim was a handsome, charismatic man, who was considered a “chic magnet.”  He was athletic and a thrill seeker, who enjoyed street bike racing, jet skis, sky diving, and motocross.  Jim was very competitive and liked to play all sorts of games, from racquetball to washers.  Without children of his own, his nieces and nephews were very dear to him. 

He is survived by his mother:  Barbara Smith of Odessa; brother:  Vershel Alan Smith and wife Shelbae of Colorado City; sisters:  Diana Workman of Odessa, Bonnie Janette “Jan” McCleery and husband Phill of San Angelo and Wanda Wynona “Noni” Castro and husband Richard of San Angelo; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father:  James Vernon Smith, Sr.; brother-in-law:  Larry Workman; and his great-nephew:  Nolan Guinn.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Monday, March 3, 2014 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd. Odessa, officiated by Pastor Bob Thayer of Odessa Bible Church.  Interment with military honors will follow at Peaceful Garden Section of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West.

Jackie Truman Dunn

Jackie Truman Dunn, age 61, of Odessa, passed away at his home on Wednesday, February 26, 2014.  He was born in Odessa on December 19, 1952 to Joyce Truman Dunn and the late Melvina Lee (McDaniel) Dunn.  He was an oilfield worker and a painter. 

Jackie was never shy and thought he was the most handsome man in the world.  He was a hunter and a fisherman, who also liked to hunt arrowheads.  He loved life and lived it to the fullest, working hard and giving much.  He would give the shirt off of his back to help someone else, and loved to make others laugh.  Jackie adored his grandchildren and great-grandbabies.  Taylor could always get a big smile from him anytime she told him she loved him.  His son-in-law, Denny, was like a son to him and was his “Road Dog”.  Even on Jackie’s worst days, Denny could get a good response from him.  His family meant the world to Jackie, and they loved him wholeheartedly.  He will be sorely missed.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of over 23 years:  Livona “Kay” Dunn of Odessa; his dad:  Joyce Dunn of Austin; son:  Jessie Truman Dunn of Odessa; daughters:  Jacquelyn Marie and husband Perry Andrew Brown of Odessa, and Tandra Lee and husband Dennis Carl Linder II of Odessa; step-daughter:  Amanda Strickland of Foulke, AR; brother:  Jesse Benjamin Dunn and wife Lanora of Gilmer; sister:  Kartrinka Pearl and husband Rodney Vandeuson of Gilmer; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. 

His mother and one great-granddaughter, Lily Mae Roghair, preceded him in death.

Memorial services will be 10:00 am Monday, March 3, 2014 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd. Odessa, TX, officiated by Rev. Jimmy Braswell.  Condolences may be made to the family online at acreswestfuneral.com.

Jaycee May McDaniel

Jaycee May McDaniel, infant daughter of Brandon Fredrick McDaniel and Anastasia Pauline Giles, was born and passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Those left to cherish her precious memory are her parents: Brandon Fredrick McDaniel and Anastasia Pauline Giles of Odessa; paternal grandparents: Carla Blue and Jerry McDaniel and wife Cindy, all of Odessa; maternal grandparents: Jerillyn Giles and Mathew Giles of Odessa; sister: Shelly Baldwin of Odessa; brother: Zachary Giles of Odessa; and numerous aunts and uncles also numerous cousins.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at Los Angeles Gardens Section of Ector County Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Jimmy Braswell.

Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd, Odessa, TX 79764.

Stoneham Swann
Stoneham Beal "Smokey" Swann

On February 27, 2014, our sweet Daddy was finally at peace.  He was 81 years old.  Stoneham Beal Swann was the dad, granddad and friend that everyone wishes for.  He was born February 5, 1933 to Elner and Bud Swann.  He married his childhood sweetheart, Patsy Black, in 1952.  Shortly after marriage, they moved to Odessa to live and raise their three children.  “Smokey”, as he was well known to others, worked for Service Parts, White Superior, and then retired early from CSI.  Being the entrepreneur that he was, he chose to be self employed as his own buyer and seller of local properties in West Odessa.  He also owns Sierra Mini Storages in West Odessa.  He made many friends from his long tenure on the West Odessa Water Board.  He also made it possible for people of all incomes to own a piece of the “American Dream”, which was their own property.  His generosity to strangers and family was legendary.

To know Smokey was to love him.

He is survived by his wife:  Patsy; son:  Terry Swann and wife Kim; daughter:  Sheryl Huckabay and husband Rickey; and daughter:  Randi Wright and husband Jeff; all from Odessa; brother:  Bill Swann and wife Janet of Ruidoso, NM; sisters:  Gay Masters and husband Willis of Abilene, Claudine Owens of Abilene, Mary Franklin and husband Billy of Austin, and Glenda Geisler of Midland.  His grandchildren are Tera, John, Brandon, Robin, Justin, Ginger, Stoneham, Kayla and Sarah.  His great-grandchildren are Duston, Zakary, Beckett, Bryson, Ryan, Reese, Cayden, Ethan, Karley, and McKenna.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews that he dearly loved. 

His parents and brother, George Swann, precede him in death.

Smokey’s wishes were to have no tears shed at his funeral.  In lieu of a service, we will have a celebration of his life, at his house, on Saturday, March 8th, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.  The address is 9149 W. 42nd Street, Odessa.  (The gate under the carport is the entrance.)

Douglas Ray Montgomery

Douglas Ray Montgomery, age 59, of Odessa passed from this life into his eternal life on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Medical Center Hospital.  He entered this life in Taylor, TX on June 30, 1954, born to the late J. W. Montgomery and Venora (Rollie) Montgomery.  He played football and basketball for Ector High School, graduating in 1972.  He was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam Era and was a truck driver for over 30 years.  He married Jolella Washington in Odessa in 2006.  Douglas was a member of the Manna for Life Ministry.

Douglas enjoyed shooting pool, shooting dice, and playing dominos.  Family gatherings and barbeques were a favorite pastime. 

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife:  Jolella Washington-Montgomery of Odessa; son:  Christopher Callahan and wife Tasha of Huntsville; step-son:  Marcavett DeShawn Fowler of Cleburne; step-daughter:  Kendra Antoinette Fowler of Monahans; three sisters:  Carolyn Monroe, Catherine Montgomery, and Patricia Montgomery, all of Odessa; thirteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A wake will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, March 7, 2014 at Manna for Life Ministries, 1312 S. Jackson, Odessa.  Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Manna for Life Ministry, officiated by Dr. Donnie R. Rollie.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Amada Enriquez Madrid

Amada Enriquez Madrid, age 61, of Odessa, passed from this life at her daughter’s home in Ft. Worth, TX on Friday, February 28, 2014.  She was born in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico on July 23, 1952 to the late Alejandro and Josefa (Madrid) Enriquez.  She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son:  Pablino Hernandez of Odessa; daughters:  Erika Gonzalez of Ojinaga, Karla Arellano of West Valley, UT, and Mayra Martinez of Ft. Worth; brother:  Jose Luis Enriquez of Ojinaga; nine sisters:  Catalina Enriquez of Chihuahua, MX, Alicia Enriquez of Grandfalls, Librada Enriquez of Delicias, CH, MX, Emilia Enriquez of Grandfalls, Rosario Enriquez of Chihuahua,CH, MX, Elva Enriquez of Ojinaga, CH, MX, Gloria Enriquez of Pecos, and Guadalupe Enriquez and Graciela Enriquez, both of Ojinaga, CH, MX; thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Her parents and three brothers:  Armando, Alfonso, and Alejandro, precede her in death.

Rosary will be recited at Acres West 24 Hour Chapel on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 7:00 pm.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, officiated by Father Frank Chavez.  Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Section of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Patricia Ann Riggs

Patricia Ann Riggs was born to Pete Bernard Reaves and Myrl Frances Reaves on May 3, 1941 in Big Spring, TX.  She passed from this life on Friday, February 28, 2014 in Odessa.

She married Donald Dee Riggs on April 27, 1958 in Odessa, TX.  Patricia married the love of her life and they have shared 56 wonderful years together.

She is survived by her husband:  Donald Dee Riggs of Odessa; sons:  Robert Dee Riggs (wife Julie) of Plano, TX, Gary Don Riggs (wife Ammie) of Odessa; daughter:  Rhonda Lynn Lewis of Pipe Creek, TX; mother:  Myrl Frances Reaves of Plano, TX; brothers:  Jimmy Pete Reaves of Huntington Beach, CA and Herbie Dean Reaves of Plano; sister:  Dana Sue Bloom of Oak Point, TX; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her father:  Pete Bernard Reaves; grandson:  Tyler James Lewis; and son-in-law:  Shanon James Lewis.

She was an avid Permian supporter, being a member of the Permian Booster Club for many years.  She enjoyed sewing, reading, and her daily crossword puzzles.  She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Memorial services will be 10:00 am Friday, March 7, 2014 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Odessa, officiated by Pastor Don Allen.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Jeffrey “Jeff” Licon

Jeffrey “Jeff” Licon, age 39, of Austin, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Seton Medical Center in Austin.  He was born in Odessa on January 15, 1975 to Henry and Mary Diana (Rios) Licon.  He was an auto painter.

Jeff came from a family of musicians and loved music.  His kids, Noah and Koryna were the light of his life.  He painted low rider cars and always said he was “a low rider for life.”  In the last few months, he had dedicated his life to the Lord and had always told his wife, “One day, I’m gonna be a soldier of my God.”

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife:  Gwen Licon of Baytown, TX; mother:  Mary Rios of Baytown; father:  Henry Licon and wife Mary .Estella of Odessa; maternal grandfather:  Miguel Rubalcado of Baytown; son:  Noah Jaycob Licon of Baytown; daughter:  Koryna Nia Licon of Baytown; brother:  Jason Licon and wife Rosie of Odessa; and five sisters:  Tiffany Licon, Heaven Leigh Licon, Viridiana Rivas and husband Eric, Sarah Reynosa, and Star Jiminez, all of Odessa.

Rosary will be said at Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd. Odessa, at 7:00 pm, Thursday, March 6, 2014.  Funeral Mass will be 1:00 pm Friday, March 7, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, officiated by Father Lorenzo Hatch.  Interment will be privately held at Rose Hill Garden of Ector County Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with his grandmother, Maria Garza Rubalcado.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Jimmy Allen Ward

Jimmy Allen Ward, beloved friend and brother was born August 4, 1942 and left this world to be with our Lord on March 2, 2014.  He was 71 years old.

Jimmy honored us all by serving 4 years in the US Navy.  While in the Navy, he learned his trade and later started a successful machine shop:  AAA Screw Machine Products.  He was an avid hunter and gun enthusiast.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Helen Adel (Brown) Ward, his father, Joe Ward, and his wife, Dinah Mae Ward.

He is survived by his sister:  Barbara Jo Smith of Abilene; brothers:  Jerry Glen Ward of Washington State and Donald Ray “Don” Ward of El Paso; many cousins; and three step-sons.

Graveside services with military honors will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Los Angeles Gardens of Ector County Cemetery, officiated by Chaplain Larry Hood.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

God Bless you, Jimmy!  You will be missed.

Jerald Jefferson “Jeff” Wright

Jerald Jefferson “Jeff” Wright of Hamilton, TX went to be with the Lord on March 3, 2014. He was born to the late Johnny and Geraldine Wright on December 23, 1966 in Midwest City, OK.

Jeff grew up and attended school in Odessa and graduated from OHS in 1986. He is survived by one brother: Dewayne Wright and wife, Joanne of Odessa, sister: Kathy Headley and husband, Jimmy of Hamilton, TX and sister: Mary Smith and husband Greg of Odessa. He is also survived by one nephew: Josh White and wife, Jordyn of Odessa and nieces: Rebecca Houser and husband, Lonnie of Odessa and Jessica White of Odessa; great nephews: Blane Wright, and Conner and Logan Houser, all of Odessa; and numerous friends and family.

Jeff is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents: Bertha and Grady Mitchelle and Mary and John Jefferson Wright.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for 6:00 pm, Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Acres West Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating.

Carmene Ridley Biles

Carmene Ridley Biles, age 77, of Odessa, passed away on Tuesday, March 04, 2014 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.  She was born in Minneapolis, MN on April 1, 1936 to the late David White and Gladys Hereford Ridley.  She was a homemaker.

Carmene “Gran-Gran” loved games, board and card. She looked forward to her weekly “Saints” meeting on Monday nights and fellowship with her Brothers and Sisters. Carmene loved to be with her family. She was very gracious and highly organized. She loved to crochet blankets.  Carmene was a big supporter of Pecos Project Linus, St. Jude Children’s Hospital and the Cal Farley Boys Ranch for years. She started her day every morning with a devotional and a cup of coffee and the newspaper. Carmene’s favorite nurse was Maria and her favorite doctors were Dr. O’Hearn and Dr. PJ Patel.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons:  Troy A. Ridley, Jr., Kelly Ridley, Forrest Ridley and Jude Ridley, all of Odessa, William Biles of Phoenix, AZ and John Biles of Freeport, IL; daughters:  Cathy Ridley of Odessa, Sunny Middleton of San Antonio and Lorrie McMains of Two Harbors, MN, Barby Shahan and Sherry Biles, both of Odessa, and her devoted granddaughter: Tracie Braden of Midland.

The best grandchildren in her world: Jonathan Peters, Ashley McMains, Heather Pearson, Amber Ridley, Gogan Ridley, Taylor Ridley, Hayden Ridley, CJ Manchester, Cami Middleton, Christa Middleton, Nikki Shahan, Tasha Delcore, Todd Henson, Robert Hinchcliffe, Sean Biles, and Logan Biles.  They always made her smile and laugh.

Her prized great grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Corbin, Toby, Makenna, Clara, Brandon, Deacon, and Seth were the extra twinkle in her eye.

Though not of her flesh and blood, you were all one of her own:  Jackie Ridley, Whitney Ridley, and Levi Ridley, all of Odessa.

Her husband, James K. Biles, one son: Kim Ridley and her parents precede her in death.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Acres West Funeral Chapel from 5-7 p.m. Graveside services will be 4:00 pm Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Sunset Memorial Gardens.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.
