Frieda June McCarty, 62, of Odessa, passed away on August 8, 2014 in Odessa. Freida was born on February 17, 1952 in Murphysboro Illinois to Fred June Yearian and Helen (Carter) Yearian. Freida was a bartender until she got ill.
Suvivors are brothers: Robert Yearian of Little Rock AK, Fred Yearian of Abilene, Texas and Carol Whittington of Jefferson, Texas.
No services will be held at this time.

Felix Rivera, Jr. “Hawk-eye”, age 57, departed this earth on his journey to be with his Lord on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at his residence in Odessa, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Alpine, TX on May 5, 1957 to Felix Rivera, Sr. and Martha (Rodriguez) Martinez.
Felix lived life to the fullest. Through the hard times that he faced, he never gave up. He loved to be around his friends, whether out on a hunting trip or helping out with the horses. He would never say “No” to lending a hand whenever anyone needed help.
Those left to cherish his memory are his mother: Martha Martinez of Odessa; father: Felix Rivera, Sr. of Ft. Davis; siblings: Betty Urbanczyk of Washington State, Jean Cruz of Odessa, Joe Frank Rivera of Odessa, Jerry Rivera and wife Claudia of Alpine, Phillip Martinez and wife Cherri of Odessa, Tina Glines and husband Terry of Odessa, Johnathan Rivera of Alpine, Felix Rivera of Midland, and Margaret Estrada and husband Pete of Odessa; fourteen nephews and four nieces; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is also survived by his special friend who never left his side, who stuck by him until his last breath, Cruz Castillo “Bebe” and his wife Laura of Odessa.
Rosary will be recited at Acres West Funeral Chapel on Monday, August 11, 2014 at 7:00 pm. Mass Celebration will be held in Ft. Davis, TX at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 12, 2014. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Ft. Davis. Pallbearers will be Cruz Castillo II, Jorge Acosta, Frank “Panchito” Hartnett, Ernest Martinez, Greg Madrid, and Pete Estrada.
The family would like to thank Home Hospice and the team at Medical Center Hospital’s ICU for all of their help during Felix’s battle with cancer. May God bless each and every one who shared their love and support in so many ways.

Damian Navarrette-Avila, an infant, was born on Friday, August 1, 2014 at Odessa Regional Medical Center. He spent 9 days with us on earth, then returned to the arms of Jesus and the company of his twin brother: Jaziel, on August 10, 2014. He was the son of Manuel Alfonzo Navarrette and Emma Yadira (Avila) Navarrette of Candelaria, TX.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two older brothers: Natanael Navarrette and Emmanuel Navarrette, all of Marfa; and his grandparents: Petra Baeza Avila, Juan Avila, Jesus Berta Navarrette, and Pablo Bustamante, all of Mexico.
Graveside services will be 10:00 am Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Candelaria Cemetery in Candelaria, TX, officiated by Pastor Juan Ornelas. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.
Asiel Tavarez, infant, was called to Heaven on August 12, 2014 in Lubbock. Asiel was born to Aldo and Nora (Carrasco) Tavarez on August 6, 2014 in Odessa.
Those left to cherish this Angel’s memory are his loving parents: Aldo and Nora (Carrasco) Tavarez, brothers: Aldo, Alan and Elias Tavarez, all of Odessa, sister: Leslie Tavarez of Odessa, and numerous loving and caring aunts and uncles.

Mark Wayne “Jay” Johnson Jr., age 17, of Odessa was called to heaven on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 in Odessa. Mark was born on May 5, 1997 to Mark Wayne Johnson Sr. and Estella Flores in Odessa. Mark was a student at OHS.
Mark was a wonderful son. He was an A+ honor roll student. Mark was very well liked in school. He was very smart and a happy-go-lucky guy. Mark loved agitating his sisters. He was in honors guitar at Ector High and was great in math. Mark was also a welder at OHS and went to state competition two years in a row in Corpus Christi. When others used calculators to figure out the math for welding, Mark used his head. Mark looked forward to his senior year in High School, as well as driving, with the freedom of a newly earned license. He liked rap, hip hop, country and rock music. He and his friends tried making music. Mark was a huge Patriot fan. He will be missed and was loved by all who met him.

Jonnie Von Ott, age 63 of Burnet, TX, passed away in Temple, TX on Wednesday, August 13, 2014. He was born in Sweetwater, TX on December 1, 1950 to the late Kenneth Charles and Dorothy (Hahn) Ott. He attended Permian High School until drafted to serve in the US Air Force during the Vietnam era.
He was very independent. A sportsman and man’s man who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Jonnie was called the “Fish Whisperer,” because he could drop a line anywhere and catch a fish. If it was in season, he was hunting for it ---- and sometimes hunting even when it wasn’t in season. (He was on a first name basis with the game wardens.) His dogs were his “babies” and he loved them very much.
Those left to cherish his love and memory are his sons, “partners in crime”, and fishing buddies: Jason Ott of Odessa, Joshua Ott and wife Rebecca of Bedford, and Shawn Ott and Daniel “Danny” Ott, both of Odessa; daughters: Jennifer Ott Hamilton and husband J. D. Hamilton of Mansfield and Beverly Gifford of Odessa; sister: Patricia Kelly of Odessa; five grandchildren: Madison, Adrian, Tawny, Stacee, and Sally; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother: Michael “Uncle Mike” Ott and sister: Sally “Nanny” Carrell.
The family will receive friends at Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd. Odessa, TX on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Natividad L. Herrera, age 94, of Odessa, passed from this life to her eternal home with the Lord on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at her home. She was born in Aspermont, TX on April 23, 1920 to the late Juan and Maria (Baraza) Lopez. She married Manuel Y. Herrera on August 2, 1941 and they had just celebrated 73 years together. She was a homemaker, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.
Natividad loved to crochet. She enjoyed her garden, flowers, and her birds and peacocks. She was a good cook and a grandkid spoiler. All in all, she taught her family to be faithful to God, to forgive, and to embrace one another.
Those left to cherish her love and memory are her husband: Manuel Y. Herrera of Odessa; seven sons: Manuel Herrera and wife Manuela of Hurst, TX, Ruben Herrera and wife Lupe, Jimmy Herrera and wife Margaret, Elyceo Herrera and wife Yolanda, George Herrera and wife Leonor, Johnny Herrera and wife Myrta, and Rick Herrera and wife Nelda, all of Odessa; daughters: Ann Rodriguez and husband Hector, Helen Gonzalez and husband Marcos, and Mary Molinar, all of Odessa, Virginia Martinez and husband Lupe of Alvin, Ellen Helscel of Aspermont, and Connie Barragan and husband Efrain of Odessa; one sister: Jacinta Salinas of Amarillo; thirty-eight grandchildren, sixty-five great-grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded to her Heavenly home by her parents, one son: Ben Herrera, four brothers, three sisters, granddaughter: Amanda Herrera, and grandson: ‘Lil Rabbit.
Rosary will be recited at Acres West Funeral Chapel at 7:00 pm on Sunday, August 17, 2014. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church on Monday, August 18, 2014. Glenda Faye Vandegrift, age 78, of Odessa, passed from this life on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at her home. She was born in Haskell County, TX on August 3, 1936 to the late Mett Truman Webb and Delma Odessa (Yarbough) Webb. She worked as a store clerk at Albertsons until her retirement.
Glenda was a generous, kind and loving woman. She was a frugal woman with simple pleasures who enjoyed watching soap operas. Glenda and her sister, Arlene, were very close and were best friends until the end.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Kathleen Harper of El Paso, TX and Sandra Swanson of Odessa; brother: Winsol Glen Webb of Odessa; sister: Arlene Randolph of Andrews; five grandchildren: T. J. Harper, Jase Harper, James Harper, Swede Swanson, and Stone Swanson; and four great-grandchildren: Tommy Harper, Destiny Harper, Jesse Harper and Leah Harper.
Glenda is preceded in death by her parents and her son: Sammy Joe Self.

Mary Beth (Wetherton) Shelton, age 85, of Odessa, passed away on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Deerings Nursing Home in Odessa, TX. She was born on Wednesday, July 17, 1929 to Minnie Baldee and Louie Wetherton in Valdosta, GA.
Mary met the love of her life, Jack, in Valdosta in 1957 while he was serving in the Air Force, and they wed soon after in 1958, also in Valdosta. Mary and her husband relocated from Houston to Odessa in 1974. Mary enjoyed cooking. She also loved to travel, and she would visit her family whenever she got a chance.
Those left to cherish her love and memory are her husband, Jack W. Shelton, Sr.; sons Jack W. Shelton, Jr. and wife Tanya of Bastrop, TX, and Henry W. Shelton of Odessa; daughter Carol Renee Lisenbe and husband Roscoe of Temple, TX; sister Mildred Garrett and husband Bill of Valdosta, GA; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters: Gladys Green and Clara Asabell.

Bruce Leonard Wood Sr., age 67, of Monahans, passed away peacefully
surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 21, 2014 in
Monahans. Bruce was born to Claudie Leo and Martha Lee (Wise) Wood
on March 27, 1947 in Abilene, Texas. Bruce was a roofer before
Bruce loved to fish and was always happier with a fishing pole. He was a carpenter and a jack of all trades. He was Claudia’s rock and hero, standing by her all the time and teaching her everything. He had a heart of gold and would help anybody. He was Bruce Jr’s hero, and would guide him and give him advice.
Those left to cherish his memories are his two sons: Terry Gene Griffith and wife Janice of Wink and Bruce Wood Jr. of Monahans, daughter: Carolyn Samples of Monahans, brothers: Preston Wood and wife Tina Lujan of Odessa, sister: Claudia Gunter of Monahans, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; two nieces: Deborah Costilla of Midland and D’Ann DeLeon Wood of Long Beach, CA; and one nephew; Eldon Crawford of Yeager, OK.

Johnny Edwin Sullivan, 65, of Odessa, passed away on Friday, August
22, 2014 in Odessa. He was born in Odessa to Frank Sullivan and
Johnny was a jokester and would kid with anyone. He was very ingenious and always working. He could build anything. As a handyman, he liked to upcycle items such as turning a satellite dish into a gazebo, as well as a dryer into a dog house. He loved to fish, no matter how cold it was outside. Johnny was a loyal family man and a very loving person.
Those left to cherish his love and memory are his wife Teresa Sullivan of Odessa; sons Bennie and wife Brandy Sullivan of Odessa, and Billy and wife Karissa Sullivan of Bastrop, TX; sisters Carolyn Harrison of Kermit, TX, Frankie Davis of Lyons, TX, Norma Davis and husband Norman of Odessa, and Joyce Barrett and husband Charles of Carthage, TX; grandchildren Kaitlin Ackerly, Kaila Sullivan, John Douglas Sullivan, Kody Sullivan, Tyler Sullivan, Jonathan Sullivan, Kailee Sullivan, T.J. Holman, and Justin Casarez; great grandchildren Jaysin Casarez and Benjamin Holman, and his best friend Teddy Joe and wife Vickie Frie of Wink, TX.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Inis Sullivan; sister Barbara Cargal; and brother Speedy Sullivan.

Levis R. McAnally, age 92, of Odessa, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at his home. He was born in Troup, TX on May 14, 1922. He was a US Coast Guard Veteran and had retired from BP Amaco after 36 years.
Levis is preceded in death by his parents: Charles and Lou Ann McAnally, wife: Marion (Gardner) McAnally, son: Richard, brothers: Jessie, Jack and Robert, and sisters: Ruby and Katie.
He is survived by his sister: Lota Freeman of Odessa; niece and caregiver: Beverly Bilbrey and husband John of Odessa; nephew: Derwood Freeman of Roland, OK, and daughter: Julie McAnally.
Interment will be privately held at Rose Hill Garden of Ector County Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
Consuelo Arroyos, 79, of Odessa, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2014, in Odessa. She was born in Coyame, Chihuahua, Mexico on February 5, 1935 to Pedro Franco Juarez and Anita Navarette.
Consuelo was a restaurant owner for 30 years while she lived in Coyame. After she retired, she continued serving a feast for her family, including her famous asadero, which her family said was “the best ever”. She had an excellent green thumb. She always had a thriving vegetable garden and beautiful flowers. Consuelo was a loving grandmother, and she is loved and will be missed dearly.
Those left to cherish her love and memory are husband Isabel Arroyos of Odessa; sons Julian Arroyo of Ojinaga, MX, Homero Arroyo of Chihuahua, MX, and Jose Arroyo, Ismael Arroyo, and Isabel Arroyo, all of Odessa; daughters Ana Maria Arroyo of Kansas, Pabla Najera of Chihuahua, MX; brother Hipolito Franco of Jal, NM; sisters Barbara Franco of Odessa, Cruz Franco and Beva Franco, both of Coyame, MX, and Socorro Franco of Tatum, NM; 27 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Consuelo was preceded in death by her mother and father, Pedro Franco Juarez and Anita Navarette, and her grandparents.
