Nova Pat Thompson
Nova "Pat" Thompson

Nova Pauline “Pat” Thompson, age 86, passed away Monday, January 12, 2015 at Madison Medical Resort.  Nova was born in Trent, TX on Tuesday, April 24, 1928 to Alton Jones and Etna Opal (Fowler) Jones Gibson.  Pat moved from East Texas and lived in Odessa until 1957 when she returned to East Texas.  A while later, she moved to Midland, living there several years before making a permanent home in Odessa in 1984.

Mrs. Thompson was a member of Westview Church of God and worshiping her Lord and Savior was a favorite activity.  Her idea of relaxation was sitting back with a fishing rod in hand.  She enjoyed living life, going to garage sales, and (once her mobility was limited) could talk on the phone for hours.  Her family was very important to her and her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandkids were the light of her life.

Those left to carry on her legacy are her sons:  Jimmy Wayne Thompson of Odessa, Curtis Dean Thomson and wife Lynne of Avinger, Gary Lynn Thompson and wife Julie of Odessa, and Tony Ray Roberts and wife Jennie of Honolulu, HI; daughters:  Linda Gail Thompson of Odessa and Brenda Sue Werner Dixon of Houston; brothers:  Robert “R. J.” Jones of Walla Walla, WA and A. D. Daymon Jones of Pensacola, FL; twenty-two grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandkids.

Pat is preceded in death by her parents; her husband:  J. W. Thompson; son:  Kenneth Wade Thompson; grandsons:  Darron Dean Thompson, Victor Lee Thompson, William D. Gage and J. Reed Werner; daughter-in-law:  Gloria Thompson; and son-in-law:  Ricky Dixon.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 pm Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd. Odessa, TX, officiated by Bro. C. E. Shuffield.  Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Section of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Charles A Elder
Charles Allen Elder

Charles Allen Elder, age 56, of Odessa, went to sleep this morning, January 12, 2015 to wait for the coming of the Lord to waken him from his sleep.  He was born January 8, 1959 in Seminole, TX to Mary Lou (Randall) Elder and Wendell Elder. He worked in roofing and tree trimming.

He is survived by his extraordinary friend:  Corrine Cravatt of Odessa; three children:  Mary Jolynn Elder of Casper, WY, Kyla Branum and husband Josh of Odessa, and Zachery Allen Elder of San Angelo; seven grandchildren; parents:  Mary Lou and Wendell Elder of Goldsmith; siblings:  Brenda Smith and husband Jay of Katy, Donald Elder and wife Amy of Odessa, Jerry Elder and wife Viola of Corpus Christie, and Laura Bryan and husband Bobby of Odessa; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Chaplain Larry Hood.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Joyce (Bolton) Gaines

Joyce (Bolton) Gaines, 79, of Odessa, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2015 in Odessa. She was born in Leland, Mississippi on Friday, February 22, 1935 to the late Wade Bolton and Hazel Jernigan.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are daughters: Amy and husband Jim Becker, of Odessa, and Joy DuCrest of Reno, NV.

Joyce was preceded in death by her father: Wade Bolton; and son: Ronald William Butler.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Lota Freeman
Lota Inez (McAnally) Freeman

Lota Inez (McAnally) Freeman, 96, of Odessa, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 in Odessa. She was born in Rusk, Texas on Tuesday, February 19, 1918 to Charles and LouAnn (Reeves) McAnally.  Lota met the love of her life, the late Woodrow Freeman, and wed him in Loraine, TX on December 2, 1933.  They relocated to Odessa in the late 40’s.  She was a member of Faith Community Baptist Church.

Lota was a strong-willed, independent woman who fiercely loved her kids and grandkids.  She was very caring and generous and was always checking on her church family.  Lota enjoyed her visits with Martha Anderson and long phone conversations with Barbara Tyler.  Bro. Wayne and Pat were very dear to her.  She enjoyed working find-a-word puzzles and could whip up a “doggone good” chocolate pie.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her son: James Derwood Freeman of Sallisaw, OK; daughter: Beverly Bilbrey and husband John of Odessa; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and nineteen great-great grandchildren.

Lota was preceded in death by her parents:  Charles and LouAnn McAnally; husband:  Woodrow Freeman; sons:  Clayton, Mike, and Melvin Freeman; brothers:  Charles, Levis, Robert, and Jessie McAnally; sisters:  Ruby Jane Epperson and Katie Lou Boren; and grandson:  Brian Blackburn.

The family will receive friends at Acres West Funeral Chapel on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, January 16, 2015 at Faith Community Baptist Church, officiated by Brother Wayne Shelton. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Krista Hodge
Krista Nicole Hodge-Patino

Krista Nicole Hodge-Patino, age 31, of Goldsmith, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Odessa Regional Medical Center.  She was born in Odessa on April 1, 1983 to Nicholas Terrance and Dee Lynn (Honeycutt) Hodge.  She graduated from Zion Christian School and then obtained certification as a veterinary assistant.  She also worked in the oilfield as a welder and roustabout.

Krista was a hard worker and an outdoorsy, athletic person, who loved to be out in nature and enjoyed bar-b-queing.  Very nurturing to people, animals, and plants; she had a green thumb and could grow anything.  She was selfless and always put others first.  Keke enjoyed watching John Wayne movies, playing Nintendo games, and collecting key chains and “Homie” figurines.

Keke is survived by her husband:  Ynez “Junior” Patino of Goldsmith; parents:  Dee Lynn Hodge and Nicholas Hodge of Odessa; grandparents:  Jack and Nola Honeycutt of Longview; grandmother:  Martha Gilbert of Odessa; brother:  Nick Hodge of Odessa; sister:  Nerisa Chew and husband Joseph of Odessa; and niece and nephew:  Zoie and Joe Chew.  She also leaves behind her dogs who were like children to her:  Chico, Honey, Jr. and Blondie.

She is preceded in death by her grandmother:  Wanda Honeycutt and grandfather:  Jim Gilbert.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.  Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Bro. Dewey Blevins.  Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Javier J Carrasco
Javier Jurado Carrasco

Javier Jurado Carrasco, age 54, of Odessa, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 in Odessa. He was born in Barrancos de Guadalupe, Chihuahua, Mexico on Wednesday, December 12, 1960 to Domingo and Petra (Jurado) Carrasco. Javier met Margarita “Margie” Ortega, and married her on April 22, 1989.

Javier was an extremely hard worker and never missed a day. He worked for over 22 years at Rockwater Energy, most recently as a Supervisor. He liked to check up on his workers to make sure they were doing what they were supposed to be doing. Javier loved to be outside.  He immensely enjoyed camping and going to the lake. No matter what, you could find Javier doing something very active. He was very avid about muscle cars. In the years leading up to his death, Javier was rebuilding his own 1937 GT, which he enjoyed deeply.  Taking it out of the garage and cruising around Odessa was a Sunday tradition. Javier loved Mexican food, and he took a lot of pleasure in listening to his favorite Hispanic artist, Jose Alfredo Jimenez. Javier’s family was first and always in his heart.  They love him and will miss him dearly.

Carrasco, of Odessa; son: Erik Carrasco, of Odessa; mother: Petra Carrasco of Odessa, brother: Samuel Carrasco, of Midland; sisters: Beatriz Jaramillo, of Midland, Elvia and husband Oscar Hinojos, of Ojinaga, MX, Luz Carrasco, Presidio; grandchildren: Dominic Ortega, of Odessa, and Gaige Ortega, of Midland.

Javier was preceded in death by his parents: Domingo Carrasco and; son: Frank Ortega; brother: Efren Carrasco.

The family will receive friends at Acres West 24 Hour Chapel on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, January 16-18, 2015, starting at 12 noon. Rosary will be recited at the Funeral Chapel on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 7 pm.  Funeral services will be 10 am, Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, officiated by Fr. Michael Rodriguez. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens, Ector County Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Andres Jesus “A.J.” Gonzales

Andres Jesus “A.J” Gonzales, age 23, of Odessa, TX, passed away on January 13, 2015. He was born on September 18, 1991 in Odessa, TX.

A.J was a loving father to two precious babies. If you knew A.J., you know he was a loving son, caring dad, brother, nephew and cousin who always kept you on your toes. Growing up, he definitely kept his grandmother and grandfather very busy. He will truly be missed, especially by his family who loved him dearly.

A.J leaves behind his two beloved babies: Andree June Gonzales of Odessa and Andres Jesus Gonzales Jr. of Fort Stockton; mother: Rachel Rojas and husband Mark Martinez of Odessa; father: Jesse Gonzales and wife Minerva of Odessa; grandparents: Frank and Erlinda Rojas of Odessa; three brothers: Don Paul Ramirez of Grants, NM, Christian Gonzales and Andrew Garcia, both of Odessa; four sisters: Alejandra Gonzales and husband Oscar of Germany, Alyssa Esquivel, Alyanna Gonzales and Amparo Esquivel, all of Odessa; uncle: Michael Rojas  and wife Catalina; aunts: Rosa Jacquez and husband Roy and Marisa Rodriguez and husband Shawn; numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and many friends.

A rosary will be held at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Acres West 24 Hour Chapel. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 am, Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Acres West 24 Hour Chapel with Angel Armendarez officiating. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Section of Ector County Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Theresa Maine Smith
Theresa Maine Smith

Theresa Maine Smith, age 63, of Odessa, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, from complications of a recent illness. 

She was born on May 12, 1951 in Wichita, KS. She graduated from Derby High School in 1969 and moved to Odessa in January 1970. On April 7, 1972 she married the late Ronald A. Smith. She was a lover of music and played the violin since the age of 9.  She played in her church orchestra, as well as in the Big Spring Symphony for many years. 

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law:  Carrie and Wesley Gilliam of Odessa, Corrie and Brian Collier of Woodlawn, TN; seven grandchildren:  Shelby, Jacob, Wendy, Marshall, Journey, Jackson, and Collin; brother:  James C. Harrison Jr. of Cantonment, FL; sister:  Ola “Cricket” Harrison of Odessa; brother and sister-in-law:  Timothy and Robin Harrison of Jefferson, GA; numerous nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. 

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 am Monday, January 19, 2015 at First Christian Church in Odessa, officiated by Rev. Ola “Cricket” Harrison.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Maria Elena Palma
Maria Elena Rascón de Palma

Maria Elena Rascón de Palma, age 80, of Odessa, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Medical Center Hospital.  She was born in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico on October 25, 1934 to the late Rafael and Rosario (Salas) Rascón. 

Maria Elena was an elegant lady who enjoyed music and dancing.  Old Spanish music was her favorite, but she loved all types of music.  She was a homemaker, a very clean person, who was an excellent seamstress and cook.  She enjoyed gardening and loved her cats.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons:  Emilio Granados Rascón and Baudilio Granados Rascón, both of Oklahoma, and Alvaro Rascón and wife Maria of Odessa; daughter:  Maura Rascón of Houston; brothers:  Francisco Rascón Salas, Jesus Jose Rascón Salas, and Juan Rascón Salas, all of Mexico; sisters:  Rosario Rascón Salas, Socorro Rascón Salas, and Bertha Alicia Rascón Salas, all of Mexico; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Her parents and her son, Francisco Granados Rascón, precede her in death.

Rosary will be recited at Acres West Funeral Chapel on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at 7:00 pm.  Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Monday, January 19, 2015 at Acres West, officiated by Fr. Michael Rodriguez.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Miguel M Salgado
Miguel Montoya Salgado

Miguel Montoya Salgado, age 86, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at his residence in Odessa, TX.  He was born November 10, 1928 in Ojinaga, MX.  

Miguel was a loving man and a cowboy through and through.  He enjoyed working outdoors and was a rancher for over 45 years. He will be missed dearly. 

Survivors include his wife: Olga Salgado of Odessa; four sons: Manuel Salgado and wife Olivia of Odessa, Humberto Salgado and wife Mireya of Ojinaga, Miguel Salgado and wife Graciella of Ft. Stockton and Efrain Salgado and wife Sylvia of Odessa; five daughters: Josefina Alvarado and husband Onecimo of Odessa, Luz Mila Gallegos and husband Oscar of Ojinaga, Ovilia Alvarado and husband Sergio and Amada Deras and husband Antonio, both of Odessa, Olga Tavarez and husband Arnaldo of Fort Stockton, TX; two brothers; two brothers: Carlos Salgado and wife Josefina of Ojinaga and Gustavo Salgado of Pecos, TX; two sisters: Anna Hinojos of Odessa and Angelica Payen and husband Conrrado; 32 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at a later date in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, MX with interment to follow at El Panteon de la Mula. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa and Funeraria De Valle in Ojinaga.
