Adalberto Mendez Flores, age 82 of Midland, TX, passed away at Midland Memorial Hospital on Saturday, January 24, 2015. He was born in Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato, Mexico on April 23, 1932 to the late Jose and Francisca (Mendez) Flores. He was a construction worker.
He is survived by his daughter: Martina Flores of Midland and three sons: Adalberto Duran of Midland and Andres and Jose Flores, both of Mexico.
Rosary will be recited at Acres West Funeral Chapel on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass is scheduled for 1:00 pm Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at St. Michael Archangel Catholic Church in Midland, officiated by Father Gilbert Rodriguez. |Joe Denzil Bumpus|
Joe Denzil Bumpus, age 85, of Odessa, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at his home. He was born in Arlington, TX on May 9, 1929 to the late Whit and Myrtle (Cummings) Bumpus. He was a worker at Stripes and was a US Army Veteran.
Joe had been a Corporal in Army Intelligence, serving in the Korean War for three years. He was a very hard worker, and he put his all into everything he did. Joe enjoyed watching his kids play sports, especially baseball. He enjoyed watching war movies and reading books of all kinds. He was a Dallas Cowboys and Baylor University fan. Joe was an animal lover; he adored his dogs, and he always had at least one dog. He liked to spend time outdoors. Joe had a garden he found joy working in, as well as feeding the pigeons that appeared. Joe was a remarkable man, and he will surely be missed and loved.
He is survived by his sons: Joe W. Bumpus and wife Julie of Midland, Stephen Erich Bumpus and wife Sherry of Menasha, WI, and James Denzil Bumpus of El Paso; sister: Rita Gail Poteet of Lubbock; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one son: Karl Douglas Bumpus.
Graveside Services with military honors will be 1:00 pm Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Rose Hill Garden of Ector County Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Johnny Touchstone. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

John Arthur Moore, age 72, of Odessa, passed from this life on Sunday, January 25, 2015. He was born in Dexter, TX on April 1, 1942 to the late Charles Richard and Doris (Clegg) Moore. John was a machinist and owned his own machine shop for over 27 years, Odessa Manufacturing and Sales.
A hard worker, John was well respected by his peers. His work ethic and endeavors earned him certification from the Society of Manufacturing and Engineering. He was a perfectionist in all things, from work to fishing, and was always prepared for whatever might arise. In the past, John served as president of the local Prop Busters – RC model aircraft club.
He is survived by his wife of almost 48 years: Sandra Sue (Berry) Moore of Odessa; sons: Michael Moore and wife Sandy of Gordonville and Jason Moore and wife Billie of Odessa; five brothers: Harold Moore of Odessa, Karl Moore of Gordonville, Rayford Moore and wife Peggy of Floresville, Billy Moore of Odessa, and Loyd Moore and wife Elaine of San Angelo; and two grandchildren: Bailey and Briana Moore.
Memorial services will be 1:00 pm Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Jimmy Braswell. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Bertha Lidia Benavides de Garcia, age 82, of Odessa, passed away in Odessa on Sunday, January 25, 2015 after a long difficult struggle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Manuel Benavides, Chihuahua, Mexico on October 21, 1932 to the late Martin Benavides Montoya and Faustina Estrada Aranda de Montoya. She was a homemaker.
Bertha loved playing cards with her friends and going out for a drive. She enjoyed music and her favorite song was “Golpe Triador” Her family was very important to her. She adored her husband and was devoted to her kids and grandkids. No one was allowed, however, to call her “Grandma” – she was Bertha to everyone.
She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years: Carlos Garcia Leyva of Camargo, Chihuahua, MX; three sons: Samuel Garcia Benavides and Carlos Garcia Benavides, both of Juarez and Jesus Jose Garcia Benavides of Chihuahua; four daughters: Bertha Alicia Garcia de Villanueva of El Paso and Alma Rosa Garcia de Banuelos, Maria del Socorro Garcia de Uribe, and Luz Teresa Garcia Benavides, all of Camargo, MX; three brothers: Jose Benavides Estrada and Efrain Estrada, both of Odessa, and Martin Benavides Estrada of Juarez; seventeen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at a later date in Camargo, Chihuahua, Mexico with burial to follow at Panteon Municipal in Camargo. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel of Odessa.
|James Lon “J. Lon” Blair|
James Lon “J. Lon” Blair, age 80, of Odessa, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2015 in Odessa. J. Lon was born in Canyon City, Colorado on Monday, December 17, 1934 to William Wiggins and Mary Louise (Hawkins) Blair. He attended college and received an Associates of Applied Science degree. J. Lon worked in the oilfield as a pipeliner.
J. Lon was an extremely loving man; he passed out love like no other. He adored his mother and had a cat named Prissy that he also loved very much. J. Lon was good friends with Amy Collins and he loved her daughters, Tanya and Taije. He liked to joke around with Amy, telling her she was “ditsy”. J. Lon’s church family was special to him. They were frequently on his heart and mind and he often spoke of them fondly. J. Lon had a tradition every year of keeping his Christmas lights up until January 12th. He often reminisced about a flower shop and an RV parts store he used to own. He knew everything there was to know about Avion RV’s. He was a special man, and he will be missed tremendously.
Those left to cherish his love and memory are friends: John Mitchell, Amy and husband Joshua Collins, Kevin, Jerry Poor, Melyone and husband Steve Walker, and nurse Theresa, all of Odessa.
J. Lon was preceded in death by his parents William Wiggins and Mary Louise (Hawkins) Blair.

Diana Gomez Llanez, 48, of Odessa was called to the arms of Jesus on January 27, 2015 in Odessa. Diana was born to Patricio Llanez and Rachel (Gomez) Llanez on September 3, 1966 in Odessa. Diana worked as a stocker in a grocery store.
Those left to cherish her memories are her father: Patricio Llanez of Lamesa, son: Paul Llanez and wife Diana Nino Aguilar of Odessa, brothers: Augustine Llanez of Odessa and Gilbert Llanez of El Monte, CA, sisters: Debra Llanez Ortiz and husband Andy of Odessa, one nephew Isaak, one niece Mariah, three grandchildren: Xavier, Knowledge, and Mia.
Diana is preceded in death by her mother: Rachel Gomez Llanez.

Juana Carrasco, age 86, of Odessa, passed away at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa on Wednesday, January 28, 2015. She was born in Calera, TX on July 12, 1928 to Guillermo and Felicitas (Romero) Mendez. She was a homemaker.
Juana loved Mexican food and was an expert tortilla maker. She always said that you should never go without hot salsa. She also loved to start her day with oatmeal cookies and a cup of coffee. A strong woman, she was very close to her son, Jose Angel. She was a happy and affectionate person who always wore a smile.
She is survived by her son: Jose Angel Carrasco and brother: Iginio Mendoza, both of Odessa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Felipe Sanchez Carrasco.
Rosary will be recited at Acres West Funeral Chapel at 7:00 pm Sunday, February 1, 2015. Funeral services will be Monday, February 2, 2015 at Acres West Funeral Chapel at 1:00 pm, officiated by Fr. Elvira Muniz Rey, age 60, of Odessa, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Medical Center Hospital. She was born in Presidio, TX on January 3, 1955 to the late Tomas and Juana (Tarango) Muniz. Elvira was a housekeeper and a member of the Catholic Church.
Elvira was a very loving person and was an affectionate wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. She enjoyed cooking for everyone and loved to sing, dance and joke around. She will be dearly missed.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband: Rumualdo Rey; son: Fidencio Flores; daughter: Elisa Flores; three brothers: Manuel Muniz and wife Antonia, Ruben Muniz and Benjamin Muniz; nine sisters: Alicia Muniz, Emma Porras and husband Felix, Elva Porras and husband Santana, Maria Ysela Olivas and husband Jaime, Maria Aguirre and husband Oscar Sr., Norma Castillo and husband Mauricio Gallegos, Elia Rubio and husband Martin, Tomasita Serna and husband Rodolfo, and Juanita Muniz and husband Maurilio; sister-in-law: Viola Muniz; and two grandchildren: Alyssan L. Flores and Yarissa Flores, all of Odessa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings: Jose Muniz, Jesusita Barriga, and Elisa Muniz.

Jesus Quiroz Olivas, Sr., age 86, of Odessa, passed from this life on Sunday, February 1, 2015 in Odessa and is now reunited with his wife, Guadalupe Dominguez Olivas. Jesse was born in Barstow, TX on May 18, 1928 to the late Concepcion Quiroz Olivas. He was a Catholic and a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.
Jesus was a self taught carpenter and plumber and built his own home. Jesse retired from the ECISD Plumbing Department. After retiring, he enjoyed driving the dump truck for the family owned business, All Pro Roofing Co. He also liked working on his trucks and working his ranch in Gardendale. Ruidoso was a favorite yearly getaway, where he frequented the casinos. Spending time with family was tops on his list and they will miss him greatly.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Dalila Olivas Delamater and husband Billy and Jesus Olivas, Jr. and his grandchildren: Ashley Delamater, Michelle Delamater, Alex Olivas, and Anai Madrid; all of Odessa.

Ethelda “Teddy” Fern Godsey, age 88, of Odessa, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2015 in Odessa. She was born in Falls City, NE on November 18, 1926 to the late Jessie Arthur and Virginia “Virgie” (Dickson) Pettyjohn. Teddy was a fry cook and waitress in the food business.
Teddy was a unique woman. She was very outspoken and feisty. Teddy always spoke her mind and people respected her for doing so. She had a heart of gold. Teddy would give a helping hand to whoever was in need, and she was lucky enough to have many acquaintances that would do the same. She liked animals, and she raised miniature poodles. Teddy was one of a kind and she will forever be in our hearts and minds.
Those left to cherish her love and memory are son: Melvin Dallas Godsey, Jr. of Odessa; daughter: Virginia “Ginger” Ann Phillips and husband Jimmy of St. Joseph, MO; brother: James Pettyjohn and wife Theresa of Odessa; and sister: Agnes Willoughby of Lansing, MI; grandchildren: Tammy O’Brien and husband Dennis of Salina, KS, Lori Cruz and husband Frankie of St. Joseph, MO, James Phillips and wife Dana of St. Joseph, and Christopher Phillips of St. Joseph; twelve great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Teddy was preceded in death by her parents: Jessie and Virgie Pettyjohn; husband: Melvin Godsey; brothers: Emory and Norman Pettyjohn; and sisters: Dolly Kelly, Lois Boatright, and Margarite Morgan.

Donna Mayree Beekman Holmes, age 73, passed away in San Marcos, TX at Central Texas Medical Center on Saturday, February 7, 2015. She was born in Eunice, NM on April 23, 1941 to the late Donald Leslie and Mayree Myrtle (Cuykendall) Beekman. She worked in retail sales and bookkeeping before retiring.
She was also preceded in death by her husband: Wayne Dale Holmes. She and Wayne were high school sweethearts and married in Mexico on June 10, 1959.
Those left to cherish her love and memory are her daughters: Sherry Walker and husband Arlis of Buda, TX, Pamela Dennis of Red Bluff, CA, and Dawn Fellers and husband Al of Odessa, TX; sons: William Holmes and wife Eney of Mercedes, TX and Kenneth Holmes and wife Chrissy of Uvalde, TX; grandchildren: Taggart Walker and wife Shana of Buda, Danielle Walker of Buda, Angela Gauthreaux of Red Bluff, Greg Dennis and wife Nicole of Tacoma, WA, Cindy Stanton and husband Mike of Odessa, Christopher Faltus of Odessa, Ethan Koennecke of Waco, Emily and Kate Holmes of Uvalde, and Victoria and Grace Holmes of Mercedes; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Donna was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of San Marcos and enjoyed daily Bible studies. She was the president of the resident’s club at San Marcos Rehabilitation and Nursing and handled all the resident complaints. She enjoyed reading and playing card games. Donna was impossible to beat at Scrabble. Before her eyesight failed, she also liked to work with liquid embroidery and plastic canvas yarn crafts.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Friday, February 13, 2015 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Odessa. At 3:00 pm, she will be laid to rest at Andrews West Cemetery in Andrews, TX next to her beloved husband.
