Mildred C. Word, age 94, of Odessa, passed away on February 16, 2015 in Odessa. She was born on July 9, 1920 to Alison Blaine Curtice and Bertha Jenkins Curtice in Redding, MI. Mildred attended high school in Canadian, TX. Mildred worked as a driver’s education instructor.
Those left to cherish her love and memory are daughters: Donna Chappell and husband Bill of Tennessee, and Sherry Chapman and husband Dave of Odessa; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Per Mildred’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. She will be cremated and her cremains interred beside those of her late husband James S. Word. Interment will be privately held at . Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

James Ray Boles, 57, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2015 in Odessa. He was employed as a residential construction worker. James was born on Thursday, April 4, 1957 in Monahans, TX.
Survivors include father Eddie Boles and stepmother Paula of Miles, TX and stepfather Jim Brown of Odessa; brothers Terry Boles of Sachse, TX and Steve Boles of Weatherford.

Helen P. Overturff, age 65, of Odessa, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Medical Center Hospital. She was born in Coleman, Texas on September 12, 1949 to the late Robert and Bobby Lee (Bassett) Pope. Helen married Houston Overturff in Odessa on December 15, 1972. She had her own house cleaning business and was a member of Northside Baptist Church. She was a loving and wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt, Nana, and friend, who was very special.
Helen was smart and generous and enjoyed dancing and riding roller coasters. Quirky and funny, with a sharp sarcastic wit, she could be hard headed and stubborn and was always straight to the point. Never one to sugarcoat anything, she hated social media and didn’t mind telling you that she really didn’t give a damn what other people were up to. If Helen waved her hand at you, you knew you were in trouble. She was the glue that held her family together and spent most of her time taking care of her kids and grandkids.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband: Butch Overturff of Odessa; two sons: Guy Houston Garrett of Austin and Cody Mac Overturff and wife Kirby of Odessa; daughter: Jill Overturff-Torres of Odessa; brother: Ken Pope and wife Linda of Gould Busk; sister: Donna Franke and husband Larry of New Braunfels, and four grandchildren: Alec Torres, Allison Torres, Adin Torres, and Klayton Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings: Robert Pope, Gloria June Gordon and Glenda Gayle Anderson.

|Robert Wayne “Bobby” Vaughn|
Robert Wayne “Bobby” Vaughn, age 58, of Odessa, passed away at Medical Center Hospital on Sunday, February 22, 2015. He was born in Chicago Heights, IL on January 11, 1957 to the late Lonnie M. and Ima (Gibbs) Vaughn. He married Vicky Joyce Livesay in Odessa on January 25, 1975.
Bobby worked as a drilling superintendent for Key Energy. He was a work-a-holic, who always had several projects going. He loved to fish, although he never really caught anything. Vicky loved to tease him about catching those minnows. He enjoyed NASCAR and was pretty upset by the rainout last year at Texas Stadium. A closet 49ers fan, he would only watch them when they made the playoffs. He had a deep belief in God and he and Vicky would talk about it often. Visits with the kids and grandkids were a great joy to him and he would get antsy whenever he hadn’t seen them for a week or two.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife: Vicky Vaughn of Odessa; step-dad: Richard Bush of Odessa; sons: Lonnie Vaughn and wife Vanessa of Odessa, William Dero Vaughn and wife Jessica of Hartsville, SC, and Richard Vaughn and wife Lindsey of Odessa; daughter: Tonya McClaskey and husband Trevor of Odessa; sister: Chrystal Regina Walker and husband Jeff of Odessa; and five grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter: Christina René Vaughn and brother: Kenneth Lee Monarch.

Larry Payne Francis, age 57, of Odessa, passed away at his home on Sunday, February 22, 2015. He was born in Monroe, LA on August 23, 1957 to Opal Rae (Welch) and the late Doc Raymond Francis. He was a US Army Veteran and a driller in the oilfield.
Those left to cherish his memory are his mother: Opal Francis of Pineville, LA; two daughters: Jamie Francis of Muskogee, OK and Jeannie Williams of Odessa; four brothers: Alan Welch of Pollock, LA, Terry Francis of Meeker, CO, Randy Francis of Midland, and Joel Francis of Arizona; sister: Judy Miles of Pineville, LA; and five grandchildren: Jody, Blyane, Krystina, Shelby, and Marissa.

Fred Diaz Aguilar Jr., age 56, of Odessa was called to heaven on February 23, 2015 at his home in Odessa. Fred was born on December 31, 1958 to Fred Aguilar Sr. and Manuela (Diaz) Aguilar in Del Rio, Texas. Fred worked as a tool pusher in the oilfield before retiring.
Fred loved old Western movies. He also loved to cook and to grill. Fred’s favorite type of music was the oldies. He liked to spend time at the lake and fish. Fred was a very honest, hard working man. He was a very talkative person. Fred was considered to be a very lovable grizzly bear. He will be loved and missed by all.
Those left to cherish his memories are his common law spouse: Pamela Marie Peña of Odessa; sons: Samuel Aguilar, Fred Aguilar III and Marcos Daniel Peña, all of Odessa; daughter: Ramona Saenz of Odessa; brothers: Aguro Castillo of Campe and Joe Castillo of Odessa; sisters: Maria Castillo of Campe and Rosemary Miller of Dallas; seven grandchildren; and his beloved pet, Chico.

Nancy Jayne Hall, age 58, of Odessa passed away at Medical Center Hospital on Wednesday, February 25, 2015. Nancy was born in Odessa on December 26, 1956 to Robert & Anita Coleman. She was a graduate of Odessa High School. She is a mother, grandmother, professional business woman, a friend, neighbor, and an “all American” kind of gal.
She married the love of her life, Terry Hall, December 6, 1975. They have 2 beautiful children, Michelle and Robert Hall. Nancy lived for her children, but her grandchildren were her true pride and joy: McKenzie, KinLee, Lane and Ryleigh.
Nancy was called home by the Lord and was preceded in death by her mother and step-father: Anita and Harry Wood; her father: Robert Coleman; and her sister: Kathy Coleman.
Nancy is survived by her son: Robert Travis Hall of Odessa; daughter: Erin Michelle Hall of Odessa; four grandchildren; Terry Hall of Odessa, and niece and nephew: Kaitlin and Cole Melka, both of Sherman, TX.

Pablo Armendariz, “Pep,” age 79, of Imperial, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2015 at his daughter’s home in Odessa. He was born in Truscott, TX on Saturday, June 29, 1935 to the late Jose and Lenor (Dominguez) Armendariz. Pablo worked as a laborer in the sand and gravel business.
An extremely hard worker, he enjoyed his job, but farming was where his heart was. If he had a choice, Pablo would have been a farmer all his life. Pablo immensely enjoyed Norteño music and you would frequently catch him singing his heart out. His favorite musician was Ramon Ayala. Pablo was a very funny man and he loved to make people laugh. He was compassionate and generous and was always more than happy to help out anyone in need. He would give you the shirt off his back. Pablo was a great man, and he is loved and will be missed dearly.
Those left to cherish his love and memory are daughters: Elva Stacey of Odessa and Melda Morales of Austin; sons: Raul Armendariz and wife Patty of San Jose, CA and Paul Armendariz and wife Debbie of Monahans; brother: Jose Angel Armendariz of Ft. Stockton; and sister: Connie Armendariz of Houston. He was “Popo” to three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pablo was preceded in death by his parents: Jose and Lenor Armendariz; brothers: Nieves and Arturo Armendariz; and sister: Josephina Sanchez.
Rosary will be recited at Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Saturday, February 28, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ft. Stockton officiated by Deacon Ruben Reyes. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Ft. Stockton. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.
Anita Cañas, age 85, of Odessa, passed away at Odessa Regional Medical Center on Friday, February 27, 2015. She was born in Juarez, Coahuila de Zaragosa, Mexico on July 26, 1929 to the late Juan and Francisca (Garcia) Hernandez. She was Catholic.
Anita was strong and kind and loving. She was “old school” and knew how to take care of anything or anyone with her healing touch. She had a green thumb and thoroughly enjoyed her plants and flowers. Her little turtle, Camelia, was her companion. Anita enjoyed music and dancing and her family meant the world to her.
Those left to cherish her love and memory are her daughters: Ermelinda Ramirez and husband Miguel of Mexico, Rosa Renteria and husband Ramon of Odessa, Maria Arreola and husband Juan of Del Rio, and Raquel Bernal, Martha Marquez and husband Lupe, and Norma Bernal and husband Efren Villarreal, all of Odessa; sons: Jesus Bernal and Manuel Bernal, both of Odessa; brother: Juan Hernandez; and numerous grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the father of her children: Ismael Bernal; and her son: Ismael Bernal Jr.

Mary Lou Yates, age 75, of Odessa, passed from this life on Friday, February 27, 2015 at Medical Center Hospital. She was born in Cross Plains, TX on May 28, 1939 to the late Isaac Preston and Dora Bell (Hopkins) Williams. She worked as a waitress for many years. She was a Christian. Mary Lou lived a long and prosperous life. She was loved by many and will be missed dearly.
Mary Lou is survived by her daughter: Jeatonne Terry and husband James of Odessa and nine grandchildren: Mary Terry, Christopher Terry, Kristy Young, Cody Hage, Francois Hage, Chelsey Squiers, Neesh Alt, and George Diaz, and numerous great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Tex Williams, Donald Williams, and Billy Bob Williams, two daughters: Belinda Fern Johnson and Tisha Lynette Johnson; and one granddaughter: Jennifer Rose Terry.
