Heaven has received a new angel, SanJuana Avila Soto, age 67, of Odessa, died on September 10, 2015 at her residence.
She was born to the late Gregorio Avila, Sr. and Francisca Avila on December 18, 1947. She married the late Remedios Soto, Sr. on October 29, 1970.
She is preceded in death by her late parents: Gregorio Sr. and Francisca Avila, late husband: Remedios Soto, Sr. and a son: Ryan Lee Soto.
Those left to cherish her are two sons: Remedios Soto, Jr. (Elaine) of Odessa and Ronaldo Soto of Hobbs, NM; one daughter: Kendra Soto (Ruben) of Odessa; step-son: Wesley Brown of Toledo, Ohio; three brothers: Gregorio Avila, Jr. (Esperanza) and Cesario Avila (Rebecca) of Mission, TX and Manuel Avila of Shelby, Michigan; eighteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
SanJuana was a member of IBJ. She was a wonderful, kindhearted, caring, spiritual woman. She was an amazing mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, aunt, and cousin. She worked many years at Furr’s and Jose’s in Hobbs, NM.

Jose Manuel Hinojos, age 39, of Odessa, passed from this life in Odessa on Sunday, September 13, 2015. He was born in Ojinaga, Mexico on December 30, 1975 to Tomas Hinojos Lujan and Graciela Olivas Navarrete.
Jose is survived by his mother: Graciela Olivas Navarrete of Ojinaga; father: Tomas Hinojos Lujan of Odessa; four brothers: Daniel Hinojos and Aldo Olivas, both of Odessa, Gerardo Olivas of Ojinaga, and Tomas Hinojos, Jr. of Odessa; three sisters: Betty Hinojos, Christina Hinojos, and Nancy Hinojos, all of Odessa; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Acres West 24 Hour Chapel. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Section of Ector County Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Theresa (Nelson) vonEnde, age 65, of Odessa, passed from this life at Big Spring Center for Skilled Care on September 16, 2015. She was born in Yellowstone County, Montana on October 08, 1949 to the late Lawrence Nelson.
Theresa worked for years at St John’s Episcopal Church and school as a bus driver or anything else that was asked of her. She was a very sweet and loving person and supported Cynde. Her favorite color was Hunter Green. Theresa loved eating cowtails candy and drinking Sprite. She also enjoyed working puzzles, cross stitching and playing Rummy on her time off. She worked as a CNA at ORMC and also in the neonatal unit.
Those left to cherish her love and memory are her son: William (Billy) vonEnde of Odessa; daughter: Elizabeth and husband Daniel Ramos of Odessa; brothers: Norman Nelson of Carmichael, CA, and Timothy Nelson of Billings, MT; sister: Denise Gardner of Lubbock, TX; grandson: Jonathon Ramos and granddaughter: Cynde Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her father Lawrence Nelson.

Alvie Simpson was born in Haskell, Oklahoma on March 29, 1929 to the late John and Elizar (Steward) Polk. She married Douglas “Doug” Simpson and they enjoyed 64 years together before separated by his passing on October 1, 2014. Alvie passed from this earthly life and was reunited with Doug on September 20, 2015.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Simpson was preceded in death by three sons: Bernard Simpson, Curtis Ward Simpson, and Joseph Douglas “J. D.” Simpson; daughter: Donna Simpson-Crawford; and one grandson: Matthew Crawford.
Survivors include her son: Rev. Carl E. Simpson, Sr. of Spring, TX; twenty-one grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Friday, September 25, 2015 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor W. M. Tatum and Assisted by Elder Carl E. Simpson, Sr. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Peaceful Gardens Section of Ector County Cemetery immediately after funeral services. Today the heavens are rejoicing because they have received a new member to their choir. Jose was called “El Cantador de Dios” by his best friend and Pastor Bobby Bell. Jose Dolores Romero, loving husband, father, brother, and son was born June 29, 1957 in Aldama, Chihuahua, Mexico. He owned Joe’s Tire Shop on University for many years, where he helped many people and made many friends. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He could fix anything and was a jack of all trades. His last memories were being surrounded by his family and friends.
On September 21, 2015 at 4:15 AM, he went to be with our Heavenly father. Jose married his wife Elodia Romero January 21, 1983 in Odessa, TX. Together, they raised two children. Jose and Elodia also have five grandchildren, one on the way, and his great-granddaughter, the light of his life, Isabel. Joe was a member of Tree of Life Church, where he was a Deacon and recently promoted to an Elder. He was a vocalist, who sang specials for his church. Singing brought him great happiness and joy.
Recently, Joe had become interested in raising chickens and was lovingly called the chicken farmer. He shared his bounty of eggs with family and friends. He also had several dogs and rabbits that he enjoyed taking care of. He was known to make a mean salsa that was popular with many customers and friends.
Jose was preceded in death by his mother and father, three sisters, and one brother. Left to cherish his memories are: his wife Elodia McGuire Romero, his daughter Stephanie Hill, his son Mark Selph and wife Letty, grandchildren: Candace, Denise, Cierra, Jaiden, Alyssa, and one on the way. He also has one great-grandchild, Isabel.
Isabel was a very important part of his life; he called her his “jarrito de medicina.” She loved to dance and praise God with her “Ahpa”. She was referred to as his sweetie pie. All her kisses were reserved and given to him. Joe was more than just her great-grandfather, he was her Dad, who loved her so much he struggled to leave her behind.
Rest in peace. We love you, Dad. You fought the good fight till the very end. We will miss you, but know we will see you again.

Saturnino Lujan Hernandez, age 91, of Odessa, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. He was born in Manuel Benavides, Chihuahua, Mexico on November 29, 1923 to the late Sixto and Tomasa (Hernandez) Lujan. He was a rancher and a devoted member of the Catholic Church.
He is survived by his son: Efren Lujan and wife Guadalupe of Kermit; daughter: Irma Valdez and husband Hermedejildo of Odessa; brother: Crisoforo Lujan of Midland; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Mona Lee Frazier, age 61, of Odessa, passed from this life on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Sienna Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born in Odessa on December 15, 1953 to Patricia Somers and the late Odis Wayne Green. She was raised by her grandmother Gertrude Green. Mona was a dedicated home health nurse who was very caring and concerned for her patients. She always went above and beyond to take care of them.
A caretaker in every way, she also cared for her plants and four dogs. Mona was a mother to two boys and an awesome cook. She was a member of the Baptist Church.

Betty Joyce (Cox) Hutchins, age 83, of Kermit, passed from this life at Winkler County Memorial Hospital on September 28, 2015. She was born in Dawson County on November 11, 1931 to the late George Austin Cox and Lela Belle Bussell.
Betty loved to cook and did so for the Winkler County Corrections Center until her retirement at the age of 80. She was also a big saleslady of Avon products. Betty loved her cats very much. In her down time she enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and word searches.
Those left to cherish her love and memory are her two brothers: Marvin Cox of Guthrie, OK and Gordon Cox of Monahans, TX and sister: Shirley Hall of Odessa, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: Bobby, Billy and James Cox.

Cara Lynn Cockren, age 50, of Odessa, passed away at Odessa Regional Medical Center on Monday, September 28, 2015. She was born in Modesto, CA on February 3, 1965 to R. C. and Melva (Dumas) Carter. She was a homemaker.

Vernon Lee Foster, age 66, of Odessa, passed from this life at his residence on Monday, September 28, 2015. He was born in Stephens County, OK on May 12, 1949 to the late Dick Foster Jr. and Alberta Adkins. Vernon met Deborah Kay Wimberly at the Eagles Lodge and after 27 years of friendship they were married in Odessa on November 2, 2002.
Vernon was the greatest man, there was no better. He was very kind and made sacrifices for the greater good. He would give you the shirt off his back without a second thought. Vernon was also very smart. If he didn’t know the answer he could find it. He was also very handy. He could build anything and never used a tape measure. Vernon was a fisherman and loved riding horses or Harleys. He was also an honorary member of The Last Few and a charter member of American Legion Riders. Vernon was also an avid sportsman, he enjoyed shooting his compound bow and even bowling.

Francisca Ramirez De Natividad, age 59, of Ojinaga, passed from this life at Medical Center Hospital on Tuesday, September 29, 2015. She was born in Vado de Piedra, Mexico on November 24, 1955 to the late Amador Ramirez Bustamante and Trinidad Castillo Carrasco. Francisca married Rigoberto G. Natividad in Manuel Benavides, Chihuahua, Mexico on February 14, 1978. They raised three children and enjoyed 37 years together.
Francisca was a very devoted person to the Lord. She was also a teacher and cared deeply for all those she knew. Fellow teachers and pupils all loved her. She always put others needs before her own.
