Ismael Martinez Rivas
Ismael Martinez-Rivas

Ismael Martinez-Rivas, age 27, of Odessa passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016 in Ward County, TX as a result of an auto accident.  He was born in Juarez, Mexico on May 2, 1988 to Luz Elena (Rivas) Arroyo and the late Monico Martinez.  He worked as a concrete finisher.  Ismael was a real go-getter and one hell of a worker.

He was the best son and an awesome, loving father.  His love for his sons was visible in the way he looked at them.  A really good person, he was fun to be around and elevated the spirits of those around him.  He was one of the funniest people whose laugh was infectious.  If you met him just once, you would never forget him.  Ismael enjoyed rap music and being with friends.  Family meant the world to him and he was always there for you when you needed him.

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his wife: Claudia Olague; mother:  Luz Elena Arroyo and husband Jesus Jose; four sons:  Malaki Martinez, Joellee Olague, Orlando Olague, and Jabai Olague; four brothers:  Monico Ricardo Martinez and wife Cynthia, Juan Martinez and wife Crystal, Jesus Gomez Rivas and wife Nataly Varela; and Adrian Rivas; nieces and nephews:  Amerie Martinez, Angelina Martinez, Xander Martinez, and Cade Gomez; all of Odessa.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, January 14, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm.  Funeral services will be at Acres West Funeral Chapel on Friday, January 15, 2016 at 1:00 pm, officiated by Father Joe Uecker.  Burial will follow at Peaceful Gardens Section of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Larry Kom
Lawrence “Larry” Peter Joseph Kom

Lawrence “Larry” Peter Joseph Kom, 88, passed from this life on Monday, January 11, 2016 at Sienna Nursing Home. He was born in Bentley, North Dakota on December 26, 1927 to Peter and Anna Kom. Larry entered the Army December 30, 1948 and served during the Korean conflict. He married Alice Abrams in Connecticut in 1958.  For over 35 years, he lived in Odessa and was self employed in construction.

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his wife: Alice Abrams of Odessa, Texas; one son: Larry Kom Jr. of Riverhead, New York; one daughter: Allison Kom of Spragg River, Oregon; one brother: Leo Kom of Belcourt, North Dakota; two sisters: Leora Houston of Fargo, North Dakota; Clara Meese of Bismark, North Dakota; three grandchildren Chris and Casey Wagner both of Odessa, Texas; Christina Hall of Odessa, Texas and 10 great-grandchildren.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents: Peter and Anna Kom and sister: Karen.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Brother Larry Hood. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Jerold Darwin “Jerry” Parsley

Jerold Darwin “Jerry” Parsley, age 78, of Odessa, passed away at his home on Monday, January 11, 2016.  He was born in Christiana, TN on May 26, 1937 to the late Virgil and Cornelia (Brothers) Parsley.  A long-time Odessa resident, Jerry was a faithful member of Westover Baptist Church and owned and operated Parsley Painting for over 30 years.  Jerry was a loving husband, father and Grand Dad.  An outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, bicycling and boating.  He was also into politics and was a passionate money saver.

Jerry married Catherine Joyce Smith on January 23rd, 1957 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Cathy preceded him in death May 23, 2011.  Jerry and Cathy have two children:  Debra Lynn Rhodes from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Alan Craig Parsley from Leander, Texas.

Debbie married Wiley Rhodes in 1979 and they have 3 children:  Michael Rhodes and his wife Anna, Carley Rhodes and his wife Mandi, and Abby Walden and her husband Chris. Alan married Carla Patton in 1990 and they also have 3 children: Christopher Parsley, Daniel Parsley and his wife Amber and Cassie Parsley.  Jerry is also survived by his five beloved great-grandchildren:  Bauer, Davee, Avery, Emerie, and Riley.

Family visitation at Acres West Funeral Chapel will be from 6 to 8:00 pm on Friday, January 15, 2016.  Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Westover Baptist Church, 2540 N. Torrance, Odessa, officiated by Brother Terry Wright.  Jerry will be laid to rest next to Cathy at Sunset Memorial Gardens following funeral services.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Eduwiges Carrasco de Leyva

Eduwiges Carrasco de Leyva, age 66, of Odessa, passed away at Continue Care Hospital in Midland, TX. She was born in Loma de Oro, Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico on June 12, 1949 to the late Guadalupe and Mariana (Ramirez) Carrasco.

Funeral services will be at a later date in El Divisadero, Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico with interment to follow at Pantéon El Divisadero.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa and Funeraria de Valle in Ojinaga, Mexico.

Rosa Isela De La O, age 47, of Odessa, passed from this life at Medical Center Hospital on Tuesday, January 12, 2016. She was born in Juarez, Mexico on October 10, 1968 to the late Jose and Maria (Ceniseros) De La O.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her mother: Estela Ceniceros of Dallas, TX; daughter: Rose Prone and Rose’s father Humberto Prone, both of Odessa, TX; three brothers: Jose De La O of Frisco, TX; Aaron and Gus De La O, both of Mexico and one sister: Blanca Gabriella De La O of Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her father: Jose De La O.

Funeral services will be 6:00 pm, Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Rogelio Jimenez-Rios, age 61, of Odessa, passed from this life at Medical Center Hospital on Thursday, January 14, 2016. He was born in Palomas Ojinaga, Mexico on Friday, February 26, 1954 to the late Cruz and Rosa Jimenez-Rios.  Rojelio worked as a mechanic.  He was Catholic.

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his wife: Josefina Baeza-Rios of Odessa, TX; two sons: Patricio and Omar Rios, both of Odessa, TX; two daughters: Amparo Johnson of Bronte, TX and Jasmine Rios of Odessa, TX; three sisters: Irena Hildago of Pecos, TX; Martha Carrasco of Monahans, TX and Eva Aguirre of Jal, NM; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Cruz and Rosa Jimenez-Rios.

Rosary will be 7:00, Monday, January 18, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, officiated by Father Isidore Ochiabuto. Burial will follow at Peaceful Gardens section of Ector County Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

George Fierro
George Urquidez Fierro

George Urquidez Fierro, age 67, of Alpine, passed away in Odessa, TX on January 16, 2016 at Medical Center Hospital. He was born November 3, 1948 in Alpine to the late Ernesto and Faustina (Urquidez) Fierro.  George was a construction worker.  He was Catholic.

He is survived by his siblings, three brothers:  Robert, Rudy, and Dennis Fierro, all of Alpine and four sisters:  Audelia Aguirre of Odessa, Elidia Fierro and Leticia Fierro, both of Alpine, and Debbie De La O of Odessa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rosary will be recited at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Alpine at 7:00 pm on Monday, January 18, 2016.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at Our Lady of Peace at 10:00 am on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, officiated by Deacon Paul Lister.  Interment will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa, TX.

Wanda D Frazier
Wanda Diann “Dee Dee” (Cox) Frazier

Wanda Diann “Dee Dee” (Cox) Frazier, of Odessa, TX, passed from this life at her residence on Friday, January 15, 2016. She was born in Oklahoma City, OK on Monday, February 21, 1955 to the late Harold Ray Sr. and Ethel Pauline (Goins) Cox.

Wanda was a kind hearted person and did a lot for others. She loved her family and her dog “Emma” very much. Her grandbabies were her world, she loved her family time. Wanda also enjoyed cooking, going to the Senior Center and going on vacations to see her family. She was a former cook at Fort Chaffee in Barling, Arkansas.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her son: Michael Garrett Frazier of Odessa, TX; daughter: Allison Ilene Frazier of Odessa, TX; two brothers: Charley Wayne Cox and wife Carla of Howe, OK and Harold Ray Cox Jr. and wife Linda of Cameron, OK; sister: Alice Slater and husband Gary of Pocola, OK; five grandchildren: Jada Frazier, Durai Keaton Perry, Tori Cazaras, Cayden Slaughter and Faith Erin Lee; nieces: Christina Cox Austin, Amanda Cox Patterson, Lacey Cox Coor, Sarah Cox Martin and Michelle Moss-Bise; nephews: Michael Ray Cox, John Cox and Michael Moss; great-nieces: Destiny Cox, Brittney Cox, Natalie Farrar and Madison Coor; great-nephews: Michael Wade Cox, Justin Cox, Robert Farrar III, Liam Coor and Caleb and Landen Bise, as well as many other great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one great niece: Summer Cox.

Graveside Memorial services will be held at a later date in Oklahoma.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Agustin Palma
Agustin Palma Acosta

Agustin Palma Acosta, age 95, of Odessa went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 16, 2016.  He was born in Guachochi, Chihuahua, Mexico on February 18, 1920 to the late Catarino and Leocadia (Acost) Palma.  He worked in home construction.  He was Catholic.

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his sons:  Hector Palma, Christino Palma and Jesus Manuel Palma, all of Odessa; five daughters:  Ezperansa Palma of Midland, Elia Palma of Ojinaga, MX, Elsa Estella Palma, Maria Estela Palma and Aracely Palma, all of Odessa; thirty-four grandchildren and eighty-six great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, his wife, his daughter, Elda, and two grandsons, Vicente and Ruben.

Funeral services will be at a later date in Ojinaga, Mexico with interment to follow at El Ultimo Refugio in Ojinaga.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa and Funeraria de Valle in Ojinaga.  Condolences to the family may be sent online at acreswestfuneral.com.

Stanley Lee Devitt

Stanley Lee Devitt, 53, of Odessa, died Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Lubbock, Texas on November 26, 2016.

Graveside services will be on Friday, January 29, 2016 at 1:00 pm and will be held at Peaceful Gardens section of Ector County Cemetery.

Anna Mae (Preast) Cook

Anna Mae (Preast) Cook, age 75, of Odessa, passed from this life at her residence on Thursday, January 21, 2016.  She was born in Dougherty, OK on May 5, 1940 to the late James Thomas and Lennie Mae (Bobo) Preast.

Ann adored her great grandbabies Stephen and Stephanie and she loved to play the slot machines in both New Mexico and Oklahoma, she enjoyed watching T.V. reality shows and retired from accounting in 2009.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her daughter: Vickie Lynn Nickels; three sisters: Gladys Castoe, Eva Marie Smith and Faye Clemons Mathis; seven grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents: James and Lennie Preast; three sons: Jerry Lee Nickels Jr, Phillip Earl Nickels and James Allen Marshall; brother: Charles Thomas Preast; and two sisters: Lois Conyer and Joy Della Beard.

Services for Ann will be at a later date and arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.
