Jaylinn Silva 
Jaylinn Silva

Jaylinn Silva, age 1 ½ months, passed from this life unexpectedly at her residence on Friday, January 22, 2016. She was born in Amarillo, TX on December 1, 2015 to Jidann and Corina (Tercero) Silva.

Jaylinn was a strong baby. She was a trooper and very feisty. Jaylinn would give you a special look. She loved swinging and watching her butterflies. Jaylinn loved to cuddle with her daddy in bed. She disliked being changed but she knew mommy always wanted her to look pretty and fashionable. Mommy kept her in her skinny jeans and she never kicked her little red bottoms off. Everyone always complimented her on her hair. She loved wearing bows in her beautiful long puffy black hair.  She always had crazy hair after showering and Mommy loved touching and kissing her on her nose.

Those left to cherish her love and memories are her parents: Jidann Silva and Corina Tercero of Amarillo, TX; sister: Andrea Silva of Amarillo, TX; maternal grandparents: Ervey and Manuela Tercero of Odessa, TX; paternal grandparents: Raul and Lilia Silva of Amarillo, TX;  maternal great-grandmother: Guadalupe Hernandez of Odessa, TX; paternal great-great grandmothers: Rosa Hernandez of Juarez, Mexico and Carolina Chaparro of Parral, Mexico; aunt: Laura Tercero of Odessa, TX; uncle: Obed Cervantes of Odessa, TX;  and cousins: Elian and Larissa Cerventes, both of Odessa, TX.

Rosary will be held 7:00 pm, Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be held 9:00 am, Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the Los Angeles section of Ector County Cemetery, officiated by Father Michael Rodriguez. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Lewis Fernandez
Lewis Fernandez

Lewis Fernandez, 87, of Odessa passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Parks Nursing Home. He was born August 25, 1928 in Odessa to Juana Alvarado and Francisco Fernandez. He was the oldest of 5 children.

Lewis was always a hard worker and had many friends, many were life long friends. At the outbreak of the Japanese sneak attack on December 7, 1941, Lewis was out selling “Extra” Daily Bulletin papers. At 14, he went with his father to work at the new Air Force base being constructed in Abilene, TX and was the water boy all summer. He also delivered the Ft. Worth Star Telegram Newspaper before school.

One of Lewis’s proudest accomplishments was achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, BSA.

During his years at Odessa High he was student manager of the Broncho Football teams. Lewis also worked along with his high school friends on drilling rigs. After graduation he went to work for a fabrication shop, while there he received his draft notice. Lewis was inducted in the U.S. Army, October, 1950 and was deployed New Year’s Eve that year. After attending Medical Field Service School, Ft Sam Houston, he was attached to Med Co 279 Inf. He attained the rank of SFC. He was awarded the Korean Svc Medal with one Bronze Star, Medical Badge, Army Occupation Medal (Japan) and UN Svc Medal. He was honorably discharged September 1952.

Lewis returned to Odessa and continued working for fabrication shop and retired after many years of faithful service.

Lewis served as Commander of the American Legion for two terms in Odessa. He was a member of the VFW, Eagles Lodge and the Odessa Chuck Wagon Gang (charge of cooking beans).

He was preceded in death by his mother: Juana Fernandez; father: Francisco Fernandez and sister: Lilia Howard.

Lewis is survived by many who dearly loved him, aunts: Maria and Nicolasa Alvarado, both of Odessa, TX; sisters: Olivia Fernandez of Odessa, Elia Warren of Vancouver, WA; brother: Felix Fernandez and wife Betty of Odessa; daughter: Sharon Waite and husband Jason of Odessa; son: Joe Fernandez of Brownwood; grandchildren: Terra Radtke of Wauwatosa, WI, Julie Huckabay and husband Blake of Midland, Brandon Pugh of Odessa and Alicia Fernandez of Austin; great-grandchildren: Madelyn Radtke, Brooke Huckabay and Jake Huckabay; nephew: Jim Patterson and wife Pat of Odessa and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Parks for their care of Lewis.

Services will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 27, 216 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Odessa. Interment with Military Honors will be 10:00 am, Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Odessa Garden of Ector County Cemetery in Odessa. In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to your favorite charity. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.   

Mary Armstrong
Mary (McClaskey) Armstrong

Mary Nell (McClaskey) Armstrong, age 88, of Odessa, TX, passed from this life at Sienna Nursing and Rehabilitation on Monday, January 25, 2016. She was born in Wellington, TX on Sunday August 14, 1927 to the late William Worth and Lillie (Dukeminier) McClaskey.  She was a retired beautician.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are her two daughters: Sherron Parker of Odessa, TX and Mary Roesner of Burton, TX; four grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents: William and Lillie McClaskey; sister: Dora Smith and brothers: Richard, William and Eddie McClaskey.

No services will be held at this time.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Roger Renteria Matta

Roger Renteria Matta, age 53, of Odessa, passed from this life unexpectedly in Odessa on Monday, January 25, 2016. He was born in Pecos, TX on December 6, 1962 to the late Juan and Felipa (Renteria) Matta. Roger married Isela Munoz on July 21, 1991 in Odessa, TX and they enjoyed 24 years together.

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his wife: Isela Matta of Odessa, TX; son: Roger Matta Jr. of Odessa, TX; four daughters: Lisa Marie Ruiz of Carlsbad, NM; Edna Rubio, Crystal Lujan and Kimberly Matta, all of Odessa, TX; three brothers: Rolando Matta of California and Raul and Ray Matta, both of Odessa, TX; sisters: Rosemary Avila of Abilene, TX and Sally Renteria of California; and 19 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Juan and Felipa Matta and brother: Ruben Matta.

Rosary will be held 7:00 pm, Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 pm, Monday, February 1, 2016 at Holy Redeemer, officiated by Father Michael Rodriguez. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Garden section of Ector County Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.  

Janice Felicita
Janice Felicita

Janice Felicita, age 53, of Odessa, TX, passed from this life at Medical Center Hospital on Monday, January 25, 2016. She was born in Kansas City, KS on May 30, 1962 to the late Charles Everett Plaskett, Jr. and Hazel Marie Wood.  She worked as a cashier at Furrs Cafeteria.

Janice had friends all over Texas.  She was the life of the party and was an avid pool and darts player.  A George Strait fan, her favorite song was “I Cross My Heart” and her favorite movie was “Pure Country”.   She also liked to watch the Redskins play.  Janice especially loved her grandkids.  She had a great sense of humor and was a wonderful person who will be greatly missed. 

Those left to cherish her love and memories are her husband:  Terry Evans of Odessa; brother:  Charles Richard Plaskett; sisters:  Barbara Shapiro and husband Brian of Chattanooga, TN, Anne Cook, Patricia Cox and Brenda Brown; step sons:  Jeremy Evans and Aaron Evans, both of Odessa and Joseph Evans of Midland; step daughters:  Jessica McAnaugh and husband Damon of Rankin and Ashley Mendoza and husband Leo of Odessa; and five step grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Debbie Lynn Johnson.

Services will be privately held at a later date.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Terry Charles Ahrendt

Terry Charles Ahrendt, age 68, of Odessa, TX, passed from this life at Medical Center Hospital on Tuesday, January 26, 2016. He was born in Milwaukee, WI on Tuesday, June 17, 1947 to the late Charles Henry and Doris Evelyn (Scott) Ahrendt.

Terry was a simple man. He enjoyed drinking coke, rodeos and truck driving. Terry was the real deal and a cowboy at heart. He was in the Navy and was proud of his service. Terry loved his country and all who served. He was American to the bone. Terry enjoyed his duties as Police Officer and position as Police Chief in Kennedale, TX. He was also proud of the grandkids.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his sons: Jason Ahrendt of Kermit, TX and Terry Jr and Michael, both of Odessa, TX; brother: James Ahrendt of Tuscon, AZ; sister: Judy Fleming of Tuscon, AZ; five grandchildren: Ty, Chandra, Kenzi, Brittaney and Lane and two great-grandchildren: Darrian and Jacoby.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Charles and Doris Ahrendt.

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 pm Friday, January 29, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

David M Wright
David Michael Wright

David Michael Wright, age 27, of Balmorhea, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 in Balmorhea.  He was born in Odessa on Monday, January 16, 1989 to David Neal Wright and Mary Lou Alvarez. 

David is survived by his dad:  David N. Wright; mom:  Mary Alvarez; sister:  Christina Perkins; brother:  Tommy Allred; aunts:  Rosie Alvarez and Gloria Chastain; and numerous other family members and friends.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa from 10 am to 9 pm.

Rosa Hernandez Taylor

Rosa Hernandez Taylor, age 52, of Odessa, TX, passed from this life at Medical Center Hospital on Wednesday, January 27, 2016. She was born in Juarez, Mexico on Monday, September 30, 1963 to the late Benigno and Emma (Sanchez) Hernandez.

Those left to cherish her love and memories are her daughter: Leticia Sanchez and spouse Eddie Viela of Odessa, TX; brother: Juan Hernandez and wife Maria of Juarez, MX; five sisters: Margarita Vasquez of Amarillo, TX, Guadalupe Hernandez of Midland, TX, Sonia Rodriguez of Houston, TX and Celia and Teresa Hernandez, both of Juarez, MX and one grandchild: Angel Viela.

Rosa was a very serious person. She was always worried about her Angel and the light of her life Leticia. She wanted her to be ok. On their last night they slept together. Her last few days were spent with family laughing, singing and dancing.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Roger Taylor and parents: Benigna and Emma Hernandez.

Visitation will be all day, Saturday, January 30, 2016 with Prayer services at 7:00 pm at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Odessa Garden of Ector County Cemetery at 9:00 am on Tuesday, February 2, 2016.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Yram Renee Levario

Yram Renee Levario, age 9, of Odessa, TX passed from this life due to a sudden illness on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, TX.  He was born in Odessa on May 18, 2006 to Adan and Michelle (Valdez) Levario.  He was a 4th grader at Sam Houston Elementary and his family had nicknamed him “Charlie Brown”.

Yram will be lovingly remembered by his parents:  Michelle and Adan Levario of Odessa; paternal grandparents:  Aurora and Abel Urias of Ojinaga, CH, MX; maternal grandparents:  Dolores and Humberto Urias of Midland and Jesus Valdez of Ojinaga, CH, MX; great-grandmothers:  Francisca L. Ruiz and Alicia Bass, both of McCamey; four brothers:  Brian Hernandez, Zavier Levario, and Donovan Levario, all of Odessa and Julian Rodriguez of McCamey; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his sister:  Alicia Marie “Ali” Valdez Levario on September 12, 2013 and his great-great grandmother:  Santos Gomez Madrid.

Public visitation will begin at 1:00 pm on Sunday, January 31, 2016.  Funeral services will be at Acres West Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at 10:00 am, officiated by Pastor Angel Armendariz.  Following services, Yram will be laid to rest beside Ali in the Peaceful Gardens Section of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Iva Jewel Switzer
Iva Jewel Switzer

Iva Jewel Switzer, age 93, of Odessa, TX, passed from this life at Medical Center Hospital on Thursday, January 28, 2016. She was born in Coleman County, TX on November 2, 1922 to the late John Henry and Edmonia (Morris) Fletcher. She had retired from working at Medical Center Hospital in food service.

Jewel was a hard worker and the “Rock” of the family. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Iva was a loving “Nanny” who spoiled her grandchildren every chance she got.

Those left to cherish her love and memories are her son: Robert Switzer of Odessa, TX; daughter: Patricia Vogt of Odessa, TX; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents: John and Edmonia Fletcher; husband:  Arthur Junior "A. J." Switzer; two sons: Ricky and Jerry Switzer; daughter: Shirley Switzer; five brothers: Ernest, William, Donald, Charles and Auby Fletcher; three sisters: Louise Fletcher, Nelda Arrowood and Ruth Duccinie.

Family visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Friday, January 29, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa. Graveside services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Santa Anna Cemetery in Santa Anna, TX. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Doyle Burnett Sr
Doyle Ray Burnett Sr.

Doyle Ray Burnett Sr., age 70, of Odessa, TX, passed from this life at his residence on Thursday, January 28, 2016. He was born in Stamford, TX on February 8, 1945 to the late Oscar and Ethel (Compton) Burnett.

Doyle was a diesel mechanic, he bought and sold tools, but he was also a Jack of all trades. He quit school early and picked cotton to help support his family. Doyle was a hard worker. He didn’t learn to read until the age of 40 but he had a love of history and storytelling. Doyle enjoyed collecting arrowheads and prospecting (metal detecting). He was always looking for that hidden treasure. His first piece of land was purchased with coins he had pulled out of the ground. 

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his son: Doyle Burnett Jr. of Odessa; two daughters: Denise Kelly and Jennifer Grooms and husband Jerry, both of Odessa; brother: Melvin Burnett of Coahoma, TX; sister: Peggy Christian of Big Springs, TX; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Oscar and Ethel Burnett; wife: Patricia Burnett and brother: Billy Burnett.

Family visitation will be 5:00 pm-7:00 pm, Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Sunset Heights Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Jess Little. Burial with military honors will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.
