Salvador “Chava” Rodriguez
Salvador “Chava” Rodriguez

Salvador “Chava” Rodriguez, age 74, of Odessa, TX, passed from this life at Odessa Regional Medical Center on Friday, March 4, 2016. He was born in Yavaros, Sonora, Mexico on Tuesday, July 8, 1941 to the late Juan and Julia (Valenzuela) Rodriguez. He met and married Maria in 1964 in Juarez, Mexico and she preceded him in death in 2009. He was a retired Line Technician. He started working for the City of Odessa in 1978 and retired in 2003.

Salvador was the greatest and kindest man you would ever meet. He loved his children and grandchildren very much, they were everything to him and he was all of his granddaughters dancing partners. Salvador loaded everyone in his van to enjoy camping and traveling with his family. He loved music, dancing and would do anything for anybody. Salvador enjoyed sports. He was a Lakers, Dodgers and Cowboys fan but he despised the Spurs. Salvador was a very hard worker.

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his three sons: Jose Rodriguez, Salvador Rodriguez Jr. and Marco Garcia, all of Odessa, TX; three daughters: Marisela Arredondo and husband Gilbert of Midland, TX, Lorena Rodriguez and Claudia Granados and husband Rafael, both of Odessa, TX; four brothers: Rodrigo Rodriguez of Odessa, TX, Fernando Rodriguez, Armando Rodriguez and Simon Rodriguez, all of El Paso, TX; three sisters: Guadalupe Rodriguez, Julia Rodriguez and Margarita Villareal, all of El Paso, TX; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Juan and Julia Rodriguez; brother: Rafael Rodriguez and sister: Elida Rodriguez.

Rosary will be 7:00 pm, Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am, Monday, March 7, 2016 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, officiated by Father Fernando Bonilla. Burial will follow at Los Angeles section of Ector County Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Eladio Morales
Eladio Morales

Eladio Morales, age 77, of Satanta, Kansas, passed from this life at Medical Center Hospital on Saturday, March 5, 2016 in Odessa, TX. He was born in San Pedro, Coyame, Chihuahua, Mexico on Saturday August 25, 1938 to the late Macedonia Morales and Manuel Nieto.

Eladio enjoyed watching fútbol Mexicano on TV and horse racing.  He loved to keep his garden and was famous for his chili peppers.  Eladio came to the US in 1959 as a guest worker (bracero) picking cotton in Texas.  He migrated to southwest Kansas in 1973, settling in Elkhart for a couple of years and then relocating to Satanta where he remained except for a few years that he spent back home in San Pedro.  Eladio met and married Maria Marquez in San Pedro and they enjoyed many years together.  Eladio loved animals and music.  He was considered a DJ and a pioneer of new dances in San Pedro.  He had his own little DJ place.  He was friendly to everyone and could always be found with his Stetson hat and boots on, up until diabetes prevented it.  His grandchildren meant everything to him.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his wife:  Maria Marquez de Morales of Satanta, KS; children:  Samuel Morales (Yolanda) of Satanta, KS, Gloria Tarango (Salvador) of Odessa, TX, Dora Nieto (Claudio) of Presidio, TX and Martha Bencomo (Martin) of Satanta and Claudio Nieto Jr. of Satanta; two brothers:  Abelardo Nieto of Odessa and Gonzalo Nieto of Chihuahua, MX; six sisters:  Maria Aranda and Martina Aranda, both of Elkhart, KS, Andrea Lara of Ft. Worth, TX, Lorenza Levario and Maria Chavarria, both of Odessa, and Josefina Gonzales of Dallas, TX.  He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one son:  Eladio Morales Jr., four brothers:  Jose Felix Acosta, Erasmo Morales, Julian Nieto, and Guadalupe Morales, one grandson:  David Nieto and one great-granddaughter:  Zakayla Walker.

Services will be at a later date in San Pedro, Coyame, Chihuahua, Mexico. Burial will be held at the Cementerio de San Pedro. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to the Maria Morales family.

Gary Conrad Merritt

Gary Conrad Merritt, age 70, of Midland, TX, passed from this life at his residence on Monday, March 7, 2016. He was born in Patuxent, MD on Wednesday, July 4, 1945 to the late Gibbs Conrad and Margaret (Sellers) Merritt. He was an Electrical Engineer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his daughter: Pamela Brown Merritt of Midland, TX; two sisters: Esther Worsham of Midland, TX and Pat Merkert and husband Fred of San Antonio; two grandchildren: Vincent Aaron Duvall and Ivy Anastasia Brown.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Gibbs and Margaret Merritt.

Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Petra Martines Hernandez de Valdez, age 93, of Presidio passed away in Odessa at Medical Center Hospital on Tuesday, March 8, 2016.  She was born in Manuel Benavides, Chihuahua, Mexico on February 1, 1923 to the late Margarito Hernandez and Margarita Martines de Hernandez.  She was a homemaker.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her children:  Fransisco Valdez of Kermit, Ildefonso Valdez of Presidio, Isidoro Valdez of Alamos de San Antonio, Florentina Leyva of Satanta, KS, Humberto Valdez and Rejino Valdez, both of Presidio, Gloria Caballero of Alamos de San Antonio, and Simon Valdez of Satanta, KS; 37 grandchildren, 100 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents:  Margarito and Margarita Hernandez; and her husband:  Isidoro Valdez.

Funeral services will be at a later date in Mexico with burial to follow at Alamos de la San Antonio in Municipo Manuel Benavides, Chihuahua Mexico.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa, TX and Funeraria de Valle in Ojinaga, CH, MX.

Shirley Mae Brown, age 64, of Odessa, TX, passed from this life on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Medical Center Hospital. She was born in Snyder, TX on July 22, 1951 to the late Ted and Lola (Hambrick) Blair. She was a homemaker.

Those left to cherish her love and memories are her four sons: John Aycock and wife Jennifer of Midland, TX, Tommy Aycock, Christopher Lynn Aycock and Clovis Aycock and wife Shawna, all of Odessa, TX; 17 grandchildren: Alexandria, Miranda, Kenneth, Jesseca, Tiffany, Christopher, Brittany, Angel, Justin “Gage”, Joshua, James, Clovis Jr., Alyssia, Sydney and Dalton Aycock, Christian Borunda, Jasmine Marquez and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Ted and Lola Blair: two brothers: Jarry Blair and Donald Blair; sister: Lydia Cobb and granddaughter: Cheyenne.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, March 11, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Brother Dewey Blevins. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Paula Valenzuela Venegas, age 78, passed from this life at Odessa Regional Hospital on Tuesday, March 8, 2016. She was born in Chihuahua, Mexico on Sunday, April 4, 1937 to the late Crecenio and Jesusita (Tavarez) Valenzuela. She was a cook at Whataburger for 12 years. She married Antonio Venegas in 1973 and he preceded her in death in April 2004.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her two sons: Antonio Venegas and wife Marcela of Ft. Worth, TX and Aron Venegas of Odessa, TX; two brothers: Francisco and Juan Valenzuela, both of Odessa, TX; one sister: Cruz Gomez of Odessa, TX and two grandchildren: Madelyn Venegas and Jaden Venegas.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Crecenio and Jesusita Valenzuela and husband: Antonio Venegas.

Rosary will be 7:00 pm, Friday, March 11, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:00 am, Saturday, March 12, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, officiated by Father Isidore Ochiabuto. Burial will follow at the Peaceful Gardens section of Ector County Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Tommy Wayne Luffman

Tommy Wayne Luffman, age 63, of Odessa, died at Odessa Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, March 8, 2016. He was born in Clinton, OK on Thursday, October 2, 1952.  He was a US Army Veteran and worked in the oilfield.

Services will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Nicolasa Rodriguez Contreras

Nicolasa Rodriguez Contreras, age 101, of Odessa, TX, passed from this life on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Sienna Nursing Home. She was born in Presidio, TX on Friday, September 12, 1914 to the late Senovio and Florencia Rodriguez.

Nicolasa was a very funny person who loved to dance. She also enjoyed gardening and loved plants. Nicolasa always had dogs and was a very hard worker. Her grandbabies meant the world to her. She made the best tortillas and salsa that ever touched your lips.

Those left to cherish her love and memories are her son: Rojelio Rodriguez of Odessa, TX; daughter: Gloria Molina of Pecos, TX; 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Senovio and Florencia Rodriguez; two daughters: Socorro Peralta and Martha Barraza and 16 brothers.

Services will be held at a later date in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico. Burial will be held at Cementerio El Ultimo Refugio. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Beatrice Ollie Campbell, age 88, of Odessa, TX, passed from this life at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa TX on Thursday, March 10, 2016, after a short illness. She was born in College Park, MD on Thursday, June 3, 1927 to the late Charles William and Beatrice Ollie Backing.  Beatrice was a Midland/Odessa resident for over 45 years.  She was a homemaker, a beautiful and strong mother, grandmother, and friend.

She loved bowling and ceramics, watching old Westerns, playing Skip-Bo and dominos, and doing puzzles.    She was an accomplished dancer and enjoyed Country and Western dancing, hula, and belly dancing.

Those left to cherish her love and memories are her children:  Charles Campbell of Clarkston, MI, Joseph Campbell of Austin, Carolyn Rivera of Odessa, Jean Long and husband Eddie of Elm Grove, LA, Kathy Bailey and husband Terry of Midland and Kelly Kingston and husband JB of Midland; fourteen grandchildren and several great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband:  Billy G. Campbell; three sisters:  Mary, Dot, and Charlotte; and a grandson:  David Campbell.

Visitation will be at Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, March 14, 2016.  Graveside services will be at Fairview Cemetery in Midland on Monday at 2:00 pm where she will be laid to rest with her husband.  Services will be officiated by Pastor Bob Porterfield.
