Robert Joe Scott

Robert Joe Scott, age 62, of Odessa, TX passed from this life at his residence on Friday, April 8, 2016. He was born in Levelland, TX on November 19, 1953 to Bedford Dunn and Bobbye Robinson. He worked for Quality Body shop in Austin, TX for 13 years.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his two sons: Ryan Scott of Odessa, TX; Andrew Scott of Austin, TX; two daughters: Kylie Scott and Marissa Garcia of Austin, TX and sister: Rhonda O’Neil of Odessa, TX.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, April 15, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel officiated by Danny "Ductape" Morriss.

George Adame
George Rivas Adame

George Rivas Adame, age 69, of Odessa, passed away at Medical Center Hospital on Friday, April 8, 2016.  He was born in Pecos, TX on June 29, 1946 to the late Jose and Dominga (Rivas) Adame.  He was retired and had worked for the Coca Cola Company.

He is survived by his longtime partner:  James Castleberry of Odessa; one brother and two sisters.

Memorial services will be at 5:00 pm on Friday, April 15, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Richard Gray'
Richard Leroy Gray

Richard Leroy Gray, age 47, of Odessa, passed away on Friday April 8, 2016 at Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital of San Antonio.  He was born in Cortez, CO on October 14, 1968 to Judith (Fowler) Gray and the late Forrest Gray.  Richard married Patricia Kay Moss in Odessa on July 19, 1991.

Richard worked in the oilfield.  He was a hard worker who believed that if he wasn’t in 1st place,  that meant there was room for improvement.  He enjoyed cooking and gardening.

He is survived by his wife:  Patricia Kay Gray of Odessa; mother:  Judith Gray of Cortez, CO; son:  Bryce Mathew Gray of Odessa; two brothers and his sister:  Frankie and Stormy Gray and Annette Davis, all of Cortez, CO.

Memorial services will be at Acres West Funeral Chapel on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 1 pm with Pastor Mike Bartlett officiating.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Gilbert Garcia

Gilbert Garcia, age 58, of Odessa, TX, passed from this life at his residence in Odessa, TX on Sunday, April 10, 2016. He was born in Marfa, TX on Sunday, June 2, 1957 to Enrique and Lupe (Arrieta) Garcia. He married Emma Emilia Mejia and they enjoyed 32 years together. He was self employed and ran a carpet cleaning business.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his wife: Emma Garcia of Odessa, TX; four sons: Sammy Garcia and wife Lori, David Mejia and wife Brittnie, Hector Garcia and Fabian Soltero, all of Odessa, TX; Rebecca Ruiz and husband Francisco, Christina Gutierrez and husband Isaac, Mayra Vargas and husband Enrique, Judith Rivera and husband Juan Carlos and Mariela Soltero, all of Odessa, TX; one sister: Sylvia Hinojosa and husband Benny; 20 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Enrique and Lupe Garcia and son: Gilbert Garcia Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Acres West 24 Hour Chapel, officiated by Pastor Humberto Porras. Burial will be held at the Peaceful Gardens section of Ector County Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Veda Couey
Veda (Lewis) Couey

Veda Rae (Lewis) Couey, age 85, of Odessa, passed from this life at Medical Center Hospital on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. She was born in the Texas Panhandle on Wednesday, September 17, 1930 to the late Benjamin and Edna Marie (Ogletree) Lewis. She was a bartender and had worked at Becky Sams for 20 years, where she was known as “Miss Veets.”

Those left to cherish her love and memories are her four daughters: Shirlena McAfee of Odessa, TX, Yevonne Shepker of Andrews, TX, Deborah Wyatt of LaGrange, TX and Bonnita Badgett of Key West, Florida; one sister: Barbara Compton of Carlsbad, NM; 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Benjamin and Edna Lewis; sisters: Almeda Heston, Ozell Brock and Betty Zethimel; her first husband: Bill Badgett; and her second husband:  Jessee Couey.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Jonathan Townson. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel. 

Margie R Walker
Margie Ruth Walker

Margie Ruth Walker, age 83, of Odessa, left this life and went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, April 13, 2016.  She was born in Thorndale, TX to the late Mr. and Mrs. Vesta and Beulah (Ward) Lankford on January 4, 1933.  She was a retired operator for Texas Instruments.

Those left to cherish her memory are her beloved sister-in-law:  Lois Deeds and husband W. J.; nieces:  Joyce Reyenga and husband Mike and Regena Collinsworth and husband Gary; nephew:  Wade Deeds and wife Georgia; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Her parents, her husband, and her sister:  Margaret Lankford, precede her in death.

Margie loved to sew and cook and family gatherings were very important to her.  She also enjoyed watching television, with some of her favorite shows being “Walker, Texas Ranger” and “Law and Order”.

Margie was a member of West University Church of Christ, where she had attended for about 22 years.  She loved her church family and always looked forward to the fellowship on potluck Sundays.  She loved to hear scriptures about heaven and had held title to a bit of property there for many years.  After her long journey here, Margie was ready to go and waits there to meet us again someday.

Services to celebrate her time here with us will be at 1:00 pm on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Brother David Valencia.  Interment will be at 1:00 pm the following day, Monday, April 18, 2016 at Cox Cemetery in Mercury, Texas.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Tommy Lee Thomas
Tommy Lee Thomas

Tommy Lee Thomas, age 64, of Odessa, passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 13, 2016.  He was born in Crosbyton, TX on September 13, 1951 to Mary Elliott and the late Cecil Thomas.  Tommy was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and had served as an aircraft mechanic.

Tommy enjoyed playing pool and darts.  He was self employed doing construction work and remodeling homes. 

Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife:  Laura Fraley of Odessa; mother:  Mary Ferguson of Floydada, TX; three sons:  Ryan Thomas and Kyle Thomas of Colorado and Cory Thomas of South Carolina; one daughter:  Brenda McPherson and husband Randell of Marshall, TX; two brothers:  David Thomas and wife Linda of Floydada and Rodney Ferguson of Lubbock, TX; two sisters: Wanda Thomas and Stephanie Holbert and husband Phillip of Floydada; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father:  Cecil Thomas; step-father:  Dub Ferguson; one great nephew:  Justin Jaso; and one niece:  Jennifer Thomas.

Graveside memorial services will be privately held at a later date at Petersburg Cemetery in Petersburg, TX.  Services are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory.

Michael James Espinoza

Michael James Espinoza, 29, of Odessa, tragically passed away Monday, April 11, 2016 in Odessa. He was born Wednesday, December 3, 1986 in Odessa, Texas to Jackie Lee Espinoza and Lynda Diann Helbert.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his wife: Sophie Espinoza of Odessa, TX; his mother: Lynda Diann Helbert of Odessa, TX; one son: Phillip Espinoza of Odessa, TX; one daughter: Emilie Espinoza of Odessa, TX; his grandmother: Emma Espinoza of Monahans, TX; one brother: Noah Walker of Odessa, TX; one sister: Erica Espinoza of Lafayette, LA and many family and friends.

Michael was preceded in death by his father: Jackie Lee Espinoza.

Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Jason Acosta Valenzuela

Jason Acosta Valenzuela, 24, of Odessa, tragically passed away on Monday, April 11, 2016 in Odessa. He was born Thursday, August 8, 1991 in Odessa, Texas to Moises Acosta and Regina Valenzuela.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his parents: Moises Acosta of Mexico and Regina Valenzuela of Ojinaga, Mexico; wife: Nina Serna Valenzuela of Odessa, TX; three daughters: Aviana Valenzuela and Nevaeh Esperanza of Weatherford, TX, and Maribel Valenzuela of Odessa, TX; one brother: Aaron Rodriguez of Odessa, TX; three sisters: Brenda Montanez, Blanca Acosta and Estrella Rodriguez, all of Odessa, Texas.

Prayer services will be held at 7:00 pm Friday, April 15, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the Odessa Garden II section of Ector County Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Steven D Smith
Steven "Doug" Smith

Doug was born in Ft. Stockton, Texas, on February 4, 1956.  He passed into eternal life on April 13, 2016 at his home in Odessa, Texas.  He married the happiest girl in the whole U.S.A. on October 28, 1977.  His wife, Dana Marie Norton, is also a native Texan born in Odessa.  They were married 38 years and have two children, Kristy and Kaleigh. 

He began his career in the oilfields as a young man working on drillings rigs pit lining.  He built his knowledge, expertise, and network of friends through his impeccable work ethics and core values.  His passion and purpose in life was family first.  He worked tirelessly to ensure that he was a good husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend.  He believed his mission was possible and succeeded.  He was a race horse jockey, bull rider, ball player, dancin’ star, hunter, fisherman, and nature lover.

He took great pride in his family.  He was Mr. Mom and a strict disciplinarian and best friend to his girls.  He saw the best in all people.  He loved unconditionally and because of his willingness to love made an enormous impact on lives of others.  He lived life and showed us what it takes to plan, prepare, and position yourself for opportunity.  He was a role model for not only his own children but for the many others who played on ball teams with Kristy and tennis teams with Kaleigh.  He could hold a heart with tender hands and nurture all who needed help.   

Doug’s professional memberships and honors included:  Odessa Chamber of Commerce, El Maida Shriner, 32nd Degree Mason, Odessa Chuck-Wagon Gang Boss and member.

His smile and playful nature changed the atmosphere of every room he walked into.  With heavy hearts and brokenness for our loss, we are inspired by his ability to touch the lives of so many people.  He is preceded in death by his father, Carl Thomas Smith.  His father-in-law, Russell Norton.  His mother-in-law Emilene Norton.  He is survived by his wife, Dana Smith.  Daughters, Kristy and Kaleigh Smith. Granddaughter Rylee Faith Brewer.  Mother, Virginia Smith.  Step-dad Darrell Byrd.  Brother, Jerry Smith.  Sister, Sissie Young.  Aunts, uncles, cousins, step-sisters and multitudes of friends.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Belmont Baptist Church at 2 P.M. John McLemore, Pastor, will be officiating.  Family and Friends are invited to join the family for desserts and beverages following the service in the Fellowship Hall.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to your favorite charity in his memory.
