Carol Dawn Cain

Carol Dawn Cain, age 72, of Odessa, TX, passed from this life at her residence on Thursday, October 27, 2016. She was born in Gatesville, TX on July 20, 1944 to the late Otis and Katherine Jo (Rose) Deems.  She was an independent business owner who worked in sales.

Those left to cherish her love and memories are her loving and dear companion:  Lewis Marshall of Odessa; three sons:  Michael Swanson and Chad Swanson, both of Odessa, and Darryl Swanson of Corpus Christi; brothers:  Charles Deems of White House, TX; granddaughter:  Courtney Carol Swanson of Midland; and one grand-grandchild:  Chase Shisler of Midland.

No services will be held at this time.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Manuela Lujan Vega

Manuela Lujan Vega, age 98, of Odessa, TX passed from this life at Medical Center Hospital on Thursday, October 27, 2016. She was born in Terlingua, TX on May 30, 1918 to the late Santos and Julia (Aranda) Lujan.

Those left to cherish her love and memories are her three sons: Guadalupe, David and Moises Vega, all of Odessa; three daughters: Margarita Corrales of Odessa, Maria Estrada of Hobbs, NM and Marcela Galindo of Odessa and one brother: Paulo Lujan.

She was preceded in death by her husband: David Vega; parents: Santos and Julia Lujan; sons: Rejino and Jeronimo; daughter: Leopolda Vega and sisters: Heriberta Berzosa, Braulia Hinojos and Cruz Casillas.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Acres West 24 Hour Funeral Chapel, officiated by Deacon Manuel Luevano. Burial will follow at 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Saragosa Cemetery in Saragosa, TX. Pallbearers will be Jose Corrales, Moises Vega, Roberto Vega, David Vega, Jeronimo Vega and Jeronimo Galindo. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Jeannie Louise Mealer

Jeannie Mealer, age 61, of Odessa, TX, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2016 at her home. She was born in Seminole, TX on July 19, 1955 to Curtis and Mary Lou (Oliver) Moore.  She was a retired school bus driver.

Jeannie was a wonderful wife and mother. She was a very laid back easy going person and quick with a smile. Her favorite things to do were to go camping and fishing. She was also a seamstress and would make clothing, curtains and household things. Jeannie loved her animals and gardening. She always had the prettiest plants and flowers.

Those left to cherish her love and memories are her beloved husband: Lou Mealer;  and two sons: Jene and Brent Mealer and father: Curtis Moore of Lamesa, TX.

She was preceded in death by her mother: Mary Lou Moore and brother: Johnny Frank Moore.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Kingdom Hall-Caprock Congregation (West Loop 338 in Odessa), officiated by Elder DeBorde. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Jose Fuentes

Jose Fuentes, age 69, of Westbrook, TX, passed from this life on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Midland Memorial Hospital. He was born in Kingsville, TX on May 7, 1947 to Maximino and Carolina (Hernandez) Fuentes. He married Elida Robles in Big Spring, TX on April 21, 1969 and they enjoyed 47 years together. Jose served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his wife: Elida Fuentes of Westbrook, TX; son: Gabriel Fuentes of Odessa; daughter: Gracie Ponce and husband Javier of Odessa; brother: Simon Fuentes of Skidmore, TX; two sisters: Lupe Hernandez of La Grange, TX and Marie Fuentes of Colorado City, TX; 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son: Jose Jr. and brothers: Max Jr. and Frank Fuentes.

Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, November 5, 2016 at St. Annís Catholic Church, officiated by Father Michael Udegbunam. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Baby Jermiah Jay Chavez was returned to the arms of Jesus and reunited with his twin brother Josiah Jay Chavez on Sunday, October 30, 2016. He was born on Thursday, September 8, 2016 in Odessa to Jesus Chavez and Lucero Baeza.

Those left await a reunion with Baby Jermiah are his loving parents, maternal grandparents:  Lucinda Lozano and Ricardo Baeza; paternal grandparents:  Jesus Chavez and Elvira Chavez; paternal great-grandfather:  Jesus R. Vidina; maternal great-grandmother:  Juanita Brito; brother:  Jesus Ricardo Chavez; six sisters:  Brittany Marie Chavez, Melany Alexandra Baeza, Kaylie Ann Chavez, Lucy Jay Chavez, Isabella Jade Chavez, and Aubrie Marie Chavez.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10:30 am Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Los Angeles Gardens Section of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Robert "Tom" Thomas Rice
Robert "Tom" Thomas Rice, 68, of Odessa, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Mansfield, Ohio on September 5, 1948 to Maurice and Anna Louise (MacDowell) Rice.

Tom and his family moved to Odessa in 1959. He graduated from Permian High School in 1968, where he was active in varsity football. He made his living as a truck driver and enjoyed being on the road. Tom had simple tastes and held strong opinions on many subjects. He was fiercely loyal to his family and enjoyed his time at home. Tom had a life-long passion for hot rod cars and eventually bought a 1941 Willys. He enjoyed participating in car shows across Texas and New Mexico where he won many trophies.

Tom leaves behind a wife of 20 years: Kathy Lee Jones; son: Tommy Rice II of Glenwood Springs, Colorado; daughter: Erin Herd of Austin, Texas; sister: Maureen Starnes of Las Cruces, New Mexico and two grandsons: Koby and Virgil.

He is preceded in death by his mother, father and older brother, Skip Rice.

There will be a celebration of Tom's life with the "First Annual Tom Rice Memorial Car Show" on Saturday, November 12, 2016 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Rush Truck Centers-Odessa, located on the south service road of I-20 between exits 121 and 126. A parade of cars will follow. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Jerry Gregory Vara, age 52, of Odessa, TX passed from this life at Medical Center Hospital on Thursday, November 3, 2016. He was born in Andrews, TX on Saturday, May 9, 1964 to the late Joe and Beatrice (Hernandez) Vara. He was a Backhoe Operator.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his loving wife: Diana Vara of Odessa; son: Justin Vara of Andrews; five daughters: Desiree Vara, Markie Vara, Jeanette Vara, Jeaneane Vara and Princess Gutierrez; brother: Joe Vara; three sisters: Betty Clem, Mary Hughes and Sally Abney and 5 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother: Jason Vara.

Darrell Douglas Corning, age 53, of Odessa, TX passed from this life at Medical Center Hospital on Friday, November 4, 2016. He was born in Odessa, TX on February 10, 1963 to the late Darrell Claude and Sherry Lynn (Wilson) Corning. He was a delivery driver for Dominos Pizza for 12 years.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his four brothers: Tim Curtis, Jerry Curtis, Jeff Corning and Eddie Corning; and four sisters: Nina Dishman, Tess Hopper, Misty Corning and Christy Corning.

Memorial services will be at 3:00 pm Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Westover Baptist Church, 2540 N. Torrance Ave. Odessa, Texas. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Magdalena Macias

Magdalena Macias, age 89, of Odessa, TX, passed from this life at her residence on Monday, November 7, 2016. She was born in Bay Point, CA on Wednesday, April 13, 1927 to the late Aurelio and Maria Carmen (Trancito) Macias.

Those left to cherish her love and memories are her son: Salvador Macias and daughter:  Isabel Barreos; sister:  Maria de Jesus Macias; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Her husband, Agustin Limones, precedes her in death.

Kyle Edward Blevins

Kyle Edward Blevins, 48, of Odessa, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2016 in Odessa. He was born April 28, 1968 in Columbus, OH.

He was an excellent truck driver and a hard worker. Kyle was a wonderful man who loved his wife dearly, just as she loved him. He was such a dependable and very caring person he was always by his wifeís side, especially when she was sick. He always did what was asked of him.

Kyle is survived by his wife, Kathleen Blevins of Odessa; two sons, Patrick and Dennis Moffit of Ohio; daughter, Rachel Bratten of Ohio; and 3 grandchildren.

Services will be held privately by the family. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Antonio Huerta Tavarez
Antonio Huerta Tavarez

Antonio Huerta Tavarez was born to Domingo Huerta Ramirez and Karla Yadira Gonzalez Tavarez on July 2, 2016 in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico.  He was a joy and a blessing for more than four months before returning to Jesus' arms on November 10, 2016.

Those left to cherish the memory of his beautiful smile are his parents:  Karla Tavarez of Odessa and Domingo Huerta of Chihuahua; his brother:  Emmanuel Huerta of Odessa; sister:  Daniella Huerta of Odessa; maternal grandmother:  Blanca Gonzalez of Odessa; paternal grandparents:  Isidro Huerta and Maria Ramirez, both of Ojinaga, CH, MX; numerous cousins; and his aunts and uncles:  Mariana Tavarez, Patricia Hernandez; Angel Tavarez, Juan Tavarez, Ramon Tavarez, and Pedro Tavarez.

He was welcomed at the heavenly gates by his maternal grandfather:  Juan Tavarez and his sister: Maria Elena Huerta.

Graveside services will be 10:30 am on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Ector County Cemetery, Los Angeles Gardens Section, officiated by Father Joe Uecker.
