Salvador Ortega
Salvador Millan "Nunie" Ortega, Jr

Salvador Millan "Nunie" Ortega, Jr., age 73, of Balmorhea, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Pecos County Memorial Hospital in Ft. Stockton, TX.  He was born in Balmorhea, TX on June 2, 1943 to the late Salvador Ortega and Barbara (Millan) Ortega.  He was a carpenter and a beekeeper.

Nunie was a very giving and considerate person.  He was always there for you when you needed him and never seemed to be mad at anyone.  A big family man, and a role model, he was looked up to by many.  Nunie was always on the go.  He enjoyed the outdoors and farming, and especially loved raising his honeybees.  He was well known for his cooking with asado being one of his specialties.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his wife:  Corrine Hughes of Balmorhea; four sons:  Rick Ortega and wife Rita of Seguin, Salvador Ortega III and wife Maria of Midland, Johnny Ortega, also of Midland, and Jeremy Hughes and wife Amy of Odessa; daughter:  Gina Carr and husband Keith of Greenwood; three sisters:  Luisa Riley and husband Lee of Carlsbad, NM, Carolina Brijalba and husband Alfredo of Marfa, and Lydia Ortega of Odessa; seventeen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm on Monday, December 26, 2016 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Balmorhea, TX with the Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Christ the King Catholic Church, officiated by Father Jose de la Cruz Longoria.  Interment will follow at Balmorhea Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Jose Garcia Carrasco

Jose Garcia, age 61, of Odessa, TX, passed from this life at Medical Center Hospital on Tuesday, December 20, 2016. He was born in Manuel Benavides, Mexico on December 10, 1955 to the late Jose and Guadalupe (Carrasco) Garcia.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his three daughters: Elia Garcia of Seattle, WA, Maila Garcia of Seattle, WA and Gracie Garcia of Odessa; two brothers: Salvador Garcia and Manuel Garcia, both of Mexico; three sisters: Elena Natividad, Ofelia Sanchez and Aurora Martinez, all of Mexico, as well as 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Alvaro Garcia and sister: Hermita Garcia.

Services will be held at a later date in Mexico. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Rachel Lucas, age 33, of Odessa, passed from this life on Tuesday, December 20, 2016. She was born in Odessa, TX on May 2, 1983.

Those left to cherish her love and memories are her daughter: Aspen Nicole Ewton of Odessa; brother: Robert Schmidt of Rockford IL and sister: Amanda Gibson of Odessa, TX.

She was preceded in death by her mother: Gail Lucas.

Calvin Curtis Williams, Sr.

Calvin Curtis Williams, Sr. age 64, of Odessa, passed from this life at Medical Center Hospital on Wednesday, December 21, 2016. He was born in Strawberry Point, Iowa on October 3, 1952 to the late John and Josephine Williams. He married Yolanda Kay Hitt on February 3, 1993 in Odessa, TX. He was a mechanic.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his wife Yolanda Williams of Odessa; son:  Calvin Williams Jr. and wife Maria Rodriges of Odessa; daughters: Cindy Hitt and spouse Jose Castillo Jr. of Odessa, Michelle Howard and spouse Stacy Howard of Midland and Bobbie McCoy and spouse Joe Paul Guitan of Odessa; brother: Kyle Williams; sisters: Jessica and Jonette Williams, as well as 13 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandchild: Josephine Mackly.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 pm, Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Strauss McCreary.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Merced S. Mendoza, age 57, of Odessa, TX passed from this life at Madison Medical Resort on Thursday, December 22, 2016. She was born in Odessa, TX on Sunday, June 14, 1959 to Celso and Ramona (Chaparro) Sosa.

Merced was a hard worker. She was a God fearing woman who enjoyed going to church and singing. She was loving and caring. Merced enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and grandchildren and visiting with them over the phone.

Those left to cherish her love and memories are her sons: Miguel Mendoza and wife Elida of Odessa, Andy Mendoza and wife Holly of Midland and Rogelio Mendoza and wife Olivia of California; brother: Manuel Sosa; sisters: Terry Mata, Pat Rodriguez, Mary Caballero and Juanita Barrera; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother: Jesus Sosa and sisters: Socorro Sosa and Mary Lou Aguilar.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Ector County Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Arthur Bradley "Brad" Curry

Arthur Bradley "Brad" Curry, age 54, of Odessa, TX passed from this life at Medical Center Hospital on Wednesday, December 21, 2016. He was born in Odessa on March 10, 1962 to Ernest and Jerry (Moore) Curry.  Brad was a truck driver.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his children: Lucas Curry and Amanda Curry, both of Colorado; sister:  Kristina Bagley and husband Pat of Odessa; brother:  Shane Curry of Odessa; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents:  Earnest and Jerry Curry and his brothers:  Tony and Terry Curry.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Frances L Yarborough
Frances Louise Yarborough

Frances Louise Yarborough, age 71, of Odessa, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 22, 2016. She was reunited at last with her parents L.C. and Bernice (Elrod) Baze and her grandparents John and Nora Baze, all from the west Texas area.

Frances was born in Seagraves, TX on January 23, 1945. Since her father worked in the oil field, Frances lived all around west Texas, but they finally settled in the Odessa area. She attended mostly Odessa schools, graduating from Ector High School in 1963. After graduation, she attended American Commercial College. Her first job was with Southwestern Bell. Frances met her husband Johnny in Odessa while she was helping a friend at a restaurant. Love bloomed and they married in New Mexico on February 15, 1971. Although they lived in various places around West Texas, they eventually settled in Odessa. They always called this area home. Frances and Johnny raised 3 children: Rebecca and Melvin Yarborough and Johnette Yarborough Sledge, all of Odessa. Becky gave Frances her first granddaughter Savahanna in 1989. Melvin brought to the family; Tyler, Jessie and Edward. Johnette married Kenny Sledge and added 2 more grandchildren to the family; Kendra and Kenneth Jr (Bubba). Over next seven years, 10 great-grandchildren increased the family: Kevin, Miyah, Ryan, Gavin, Jaylin, Quinten, Keston, Serenity, Dylan, TJ, Bentley and Wyatt. Frances loved working, she always wanted to be busy. She worked for Ector County ISD for 29 years. Through those years she worked as a driver, monitor, specialist and evening dispatcher. At the end of July 2016, she finally retired, under protest! But she knew her health wouldn’t allow her to work any longer. On her time off, she loved spending time at Hubbard Creek in Breckenridge, TX with her family. She went there as often as she could. She loved to crochet and genealogy was her passion. She always had two secret loves in her life: George Strait and Elvis Presley!  Frances was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She made countless friends throughout her life and was loved by all of them. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior early in life and lived her life as a Christian should.

Pallbearers will be Melvin Yarborough, Tyree James, Kenny Sledge, Jerrod Langston, Tim Linder, Kenneth Sledge JR. and Billy Fish.

Family visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 pm, Saturday, December 24, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm, Monday, December 26, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel, officiated by Brother Michael Hildreth. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Diana McKinzie Connell

Diana McKinzie Connell, age 73, of Odessa, passed from this life at Medical Center Hospital on Wednesday, December 21, 2016. She was born in Seymour, TX on June 28, 1943. 

"Ms. Di" leaves behind her beloved and trusted friends:  Elaine, Bea, Clinton, Tammy, Lloyd, Kelly, and Patty, as well as many other friends from Shotguns.

Billy Roy Thigpen Jr.

Billy Roy Thigpen Jr., age 51, of Odessa, TX passed from this life at his residence on Saturday, December 24, 2016. He was born in San Angelo, TX on December 4, 1965 to the late Billy Roy and Gwendolyn (Harper) Thigpen. He was a welder, a father, and a great friend.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are his mother: Sharon Lyons of Odessa; daughter: Samantha Thigpen of Odessa; brothers: Bradley Thigpen of San Antonio, TX, Dusty Thigpen of Dallas, TX, Ray Thigpen of Dallas, TX and Jimmy Delaney of Rockwall, TX; sisters: Vicki Fisher of Wimberley, TX and Freddine Thigpen of California, as well as one granddog and four grandcats.

His motto was, "It is what it is."

Linda Kay Keefer

Linda Kay Keefer passed away in Lubbock, TX on Sunday, December 25, 2016.  She was born January 25, 1942 in Breckenridge, TX to Delmas Wayne Parker and Mary Ann Jackson-Parker.  She was married to Russell Larry Harlow and later to Lem David Keefer.  She graduated from Sul Ross University in 1999 with a masters in Criminal Law with a minor in Psychology.  Linda worked for the Midland Probation offices and later for the Odessa Parole office.  She witnessed for the Lord through Kairos Outside.

Linda loved to make jewelry and do other crafts.  An adventurer, she went on two cruises, seeing the rain forest and even the Mayan ruins.  She lived a full and carefree life and enjoyed a good bargain hunt.   

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her son:  Russell Wayne Harlow and wife Cheryl Stoican of Bowie, TX and their children: Russel Allen Harlow, Rochelle Lee Harlow, and Melissa Kaye Harlow Wiant and her husband Ralph Harland Wiant of Odessa, TX; Melissa and Ralph's children:  Christian Leanne Cambell and  Amanda Elisha Chapa; great-grandchildren:  Lucas Cambell, Cody Cambell, Gabriella Stearns, Andrew Ramon Chapa, and Caitlin Ann Chapa.

Her parents, D.W. and Mary Anne Parker and one grandchild, Joshua Edward Stearns, precede her in death.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel at 10:00 am, officiated by Pastor Ken Black.  Interment follows at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Celia Natividad

Celia Natividad, age 27, of Odessa, passed from this life into eternity on Monday, December 26, 2016 at Medical Center Hospital.  She was born in Odessa on November 13, 1989 to Samuel Payen and Noemi Muñoz.  Celia was a homemaker who loved her family very much.  Her husband and children were her world and she loved to watch her kids play soccer.  She was very close to her family, especially her twin sister, Lily.

Those left to cherish her love and memory are her husband:  Eduardo Natividad and their children:  Ismael Natividad, Israel Natividad, and Isabel Natividad; her parents:  Noemi Muñoz and Samuel Payen; three brothers:  Jose Samuel Payen and wife Maria, Hugo Angel Payen, and Saul Payen and wife Sonia; and two sisters:  Nereida Marquez and husband Homero and Lily Carrasco and her husband Aaron.

Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Thursday evening, December 29, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, officiated by Fr. Fernando Bonilla.  Interment will follow at Odessa II Garden of Ector County Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Ansel Tom Fletcher

On December 27, 2016, long time resident of Odessa, TX, Ansel Tom Fletcher went home to be with the Lord. He was an excellent welder and retired with Ingersol Rand.

He is survived by his only daughter Vickie (Fletcher) Mathews, her husband Roy (Nick) Mathews, his only grandson Eric Mathews, his wife Laura, her children and grandchildren. It was his wishes to be cremated and he requested no service. We loved him and he will truly be missed by his family and friends.

Destiny Amaya Parker

Destiny Amaya Parker, loving daughter, sister and friend, age 14, of Odessa, passed from this life on Monday, December 26, 2016. She was born in Odessa, TX on May 24, 2002 to Gregg Ray Parker and Irma Terrazas. She was a student at Richard Milburn Academy.

Destiny was a very sweet but sassy girl. She had a bubbly personality but was shy until you got to know her. Destiny was an early riser and loved to be outdoors. She enjoyed playing baseball, basketball and she was her father’s little hunting buddy. She was her Mammies “Lil Changa”. Destiny had a sassy streak and could be blunt at times. She would always tell it how it was. Destiny enjoyed cooking, baking, playing Playstation, watching Dashie on Youtube and always had her ear buds in listening to music. If she was ever having a bad day, a Hershey Bar would make it all better.

Those left to cherish her love and memories are her father: Gregg Ray Parker; mother: Irma Terrazas and Bruce Puckett; maternal grandmother: Elida “Lydia” Terrazas; maternal grandfather: Ramon Terrazas Sr.; brothers: James Ray and Ryan E. Parker; sister: Victoria Jade Parker; uncles: Lolo Vega, Ruben Limon, Craig Parker and Mark Lind Parker; aunts: Sheila Limon and Katherine Howie, as well as numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather: James Milton Parker and aunt: Nelda Romero.

Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm, Monday, January 2, 2016 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, January 3, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Bernard Joseph "Bernie" Brockman

Bernard Joseph "Bernie" Brockman, age 61, of Odessa, passed away at Medical Center Hospital on Wednesday, December 28, 2016.  He was born in Tulia, TX on January 24, 1955 to the late Lewis and Julianna (Birkenfeld) Brockman.  He married Lawana Oliver in Odessa on December 20, 1989 and they had just celebrated 27 years together.  Bernie worked for 30 years at West Texas Water Well as a driller.

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his wife : Lawana Brockman of Odessa; son:  Keith Bell and wife Clarissa of Lubbock; daughter:  Ginger Porter of Lubbock; brothers:  August Brockman  and Vincent Brockman; sisters:  Paulette McGee, Pat Murden, Edna Tucker, Cathy Starkwater, and Mary Lee Cuttitta; and three grandchildren:  Chloe, Katheryn and Camille.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother:  Howard Brockman.
