John Charles Crabtree
12/27/42 - 06/16/18
John was born on December 27, 1942 to Nell and Buster Crabtree in Kermit, TX and died on June 16, 2018 in San Antonio, TX where he had resided for 12 years. He is survived by his children Kent, Angela, Shawn, and Tana Crabtree, their spouses and step mother Alice Crabtree. He also left a very special friend that brightened the last two years of his life Bertha Voss. Last but probably the hardest for him to leave were his 12 grandkids and 7 great grandkids. He is preceded in death by his mother and father and a host of friends.
John was known by many names to his friends...Crabby, Crabcakes, Mr. Crabtree, John, Duke, and I am sure many others that are not appropriate to write. He was a man of very few words but they were always good ones. In these last few days I have seen him be referred as “One of the Greatest Oil Field Men Around”. He loved the smell of that crude he called it money. He also enjoyed traveling the United States with his best friends Arbert, Gail, and Bertha. While at his residence in San Antonio, he became President of the Grumpy Old Man Consultants Society and they met in different garages to discuss their weeks of retirement and I am sure a little drinking was involved. He was his grandkids biggest fan. You can bet that he made it a priority to attend any activity that they were involved in. John had started attending the Baptist church with Bertha and had accepted the Lord as his Savior. Among many things he did in his life, he was also a very proud fireman for the Kermit Volunteer Fire Department for at least 20 years. He also served as a Mason for many years. Some of his hobbies included being a pilot, scuba diving, and just about anything he wanted to do.
Pallbearers are the members of the Grumpy Old Men Consultants Society Arbert Lindley, David McGuire, Ken Batchlor, Joe Mims, Eloy Musquiz, Jack Crouse, Jack Gruber and Rick Hall. Honorary pallbearers are William Dow, Samuel Woodward, Ancel Mariscal, Dillen Crabtree and Joshua Crabtree.
There will be a family visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on
Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa.
A Celebration of John's life will be at 1:00 pm on Thursday,
